I think its because EV’s need to charge to actually drive. That is the purpose for the charging points. Camper’s are just charging ”extras”. And you can probably argue that heating isn’t an extra etc but in the end i doubt it will make a difference, like Mel said, they’ll figure a way to stop non EV’s using them.

Good info Mel. One other positive to this is that if it becomes more common/accepted practice for campervan charging, then more EV charging points might be installed in some of the out of the way/rural places, this would benefit visitors and also those who live there can also charge their EV locally without having to install anything special at home. Plus, some charging points that don't get a lot of use by EVs might be kept as campervan use will make them viable.

    • @Mevi
      @Mevi ปีที่แล้ว +2

Newer charging standards that actually communicate with the car being charged, they won't allow this, sadly. 😔
There's still plenty of these older charge points and probably enough demand from older EVs to justify keeping them installed.

I think we (EV drivers and camper) should embrace each other.
I welcome campers to charge the batteries for their vans/caravans, at EV charging stations.
In return I want camping sites to allow EVs to connect when they stay over night, either sleeping in the car or in a tent.
I believe that paying any paying customers create revenue and demand, to install more service.

One thing worth being aware of. Those adapters will ignore signal from charging station.
As long as the charging station supports enough power; it's not a problem.
If the charging station is part of a load balancing system, or other reason for reduced power; they might temporarily or permanently not support enough power.
Large parking with many stations, can have load balancing, where they restrict the power.
Home stations, can have load balance with the rest of the building, where available power at charger can change depending on how much is used inside.
Some installation can be permanently set to low power.
The lowest power is ~1.4 kW, if you appliance/charger use less, then you are good to go.
If you are above 1.4 kW you should verify the power setting for the station, if it's permanent of dynamically changes.
If you try to charge at 2 kW from a 1.4 kW station, it will probably shut down, depending on the system, it might auto reset or you need a service technician,
Mind you, I'm not trying to scare anyone, but I think it's useful to be aware of the possibility, to avoid shutting down the system for many stations.

The BIG question ... ... How Much ❓ and ...
How Long ❓ (I suppose that depends on how low your etti is when you start ... but let's say about 50% 🤔🤔)
Also, if Tesco was closed, do parking charges apply - some s/mkts only allow you to park for the "three hours" limit whilst it is open 🤔🤔

🤔 It's hard enough to find an empty EV charging point when visiting my parents in the UK, with all the hybrid ICE EVs with tiny batteries using them up. I can't wait for people to be using them to charge their leisure batteries 😉. Maybe councils could install 240V supplies for Van life, etc, in addition to more EV charging stations. In the Netherlands, we have lots of charging stations, so it will be less of an issue (I'm British BTW, not Dutch).

I’m in the USA, if I want to test this out I’ll have to find a 240v lithium charger with a 48v output for a diy battery bank. 20amp output would be good for ~1100 watt of charging. Can you recommend chargers with 20, 40, 60, 80 & 100 amp outputs? Preferably if they mail to the US too.

Mel. Thinking of getting this unit., and the new one has just been releasted. You're using the Buletti 200 Max for both to your 12v fuse box and to charge via the EV car chargers. The new Bluetti 200L has some changes to the unit and I can't see the 30A port. Did I miss something or can both still be done the same way as you have with your 200 Max?

Cool, I figured it was possible. Perhaps they could add a bonus socket for campers with long leads or small devices, ebikes, scooters etc. Then have a notice giving parking priority to the EV.
I rember the services once had lockboxes where you could charge phones. Maybe they could add one with a pin code/time lock and charge £1.

It would be good if they could add maybe 2 low power inputs suitable for a camping electric hook-up connector for camper van battery charging while the main high power input for battery car charging can still be used as well. If it's a power problem They could set a limit so it doesn't interfere with people trying to hi power charge there car. So for example you only get enough power to charge your battery but not run a microwave or electric fire while connected as it would trip off.

Also you had(and I have) the Allpowers s2000 pro, it charges @1.5kW...which would be much better for not hogging the charge point. 👍 Btw Alliexprees do the adapter leads for £38.00,so you need to shop around Mel. 😊

Tel me if this is correct. You take a type 2 ev lead and connect a cee plug on the end.
You fitted a cee box on the outside of your van with the white cable going from the cee box to the white household 3 pin box in your van. You then plug in your bluetti in to the household box in the van.
The bluetti regulates the power it takes from the ev box .
If this is correct it’s bloody genius.

I've been doing this a while - just a heads up, a few rapid charging points won't work unless you really are in an EV or hybrid. They exchange data through the cable and recognise your make of vehicle, reject you if they don't get a valid car make.

    • @897aa33

You don't use rapid charging points but instead using type 2 (slow charge)

    • @hughjasse3375
      @hughjasse3375 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@897aa33 True - but again, plan.
Some fast chargers are 22Kwh. Some will happily step down, but some do the same thing as some rapid chargers, and try to exchange vehicle data for identifier.
Chademo rapid chargers let you charge leisures, but that standard is dying out.
The next gen rapid chargers seem to be the only ones going up now, and most of those are problematic.
It used to be about 2:1 fast chargers Vs rapid chargers, about 5 years ago. It's about 3:1 in the rapid charger favour now.
Hopefully, as the network of charge points expand, fast or slow chargers will sprout up everywhere, as more locations not on high voltage lines see an opportunity. That's what I hope for - the focus has been entirely on rapid charger infrastructure at the moment. I can see an "AirBnB" type opportunity for pubs, restaurants, even homes, to provide fast or slow charging points on a much larger scale.🤞

This is great, I am planning on carrying a 120amp 12v power supply with me in my van, to use as a temporary charger for my lifepo4 cells. If I plug this into my shore power socket after connecting at one of these charge points as you did, my 12v battery pack will charge at 120amps (1680 watts) 👌
If nothing else, within an hour (if I’m doing my shopping for example), my 280ah battery could go from 50 to 90% in that time.
Great to have another option to charge (already have lots of solar, a dc-dc charger and standard lithium charger).

As an EV driver, I don't see an issue with this per say. My only niggle is the possibility of someone plugging in a campervan then walking away. Some EV drivers who don't have the facility to charge at home rely heavily on public chargers.
Other than that, there's no reason why we can't all get along as long as you stay with the van and be prepared to free up the charger if a car turns up :)
