You should compare the 16mm on the sigma vs the 17mm on the Tamron correcting the distorsion in postprocessing. The Sigma has a lot more distorsion at 16mm than Tamron at 17mm and when you apply that correction, the photo is a lot less wide. I saw that before buying the Sigma, and now I have a copy I could see how big is the cut when you correct the photos. I would like to see the comparaison between 2 photos corrected.
That Blowout valve shooting into the atmosphere and that backfire, ufff!! You should do a walk through of your VW (R32..? I think). I know this isn’t a car channel but it would be awesome if you did a video of your car. Great review of the lens!
It’s also much bigger, heavier, more expensive, has a bulbous front element, but yeah it’s a nice lens but if you travel it’s perhaps on the bigger heavier side if you need to carry other lenses.
I've been waiting to hear about this lens. Autofocus doesn't bother me, I use a Panasonic S camera 🤌. But the focus breathing is disappointing for video use.
We are together AHAHH. Sony/canon users like "its slower" Dude we are panasonic users that slow or fast as long it focus we are happy. someone should try with panasonic . Im waiting 2 days than i might buy it and do a review with using focus sensivity
I think the focus breathing isn't bad at all but the hunting killed it for me. Thanks for pointing that out. Going for the Sony 16-35pz since video is my main focus (pun not intended)
The focus issue is present on the 16mm f1.4 for the aps-c. It was the reason why I returned mine. It was maddening. I was trying to focus on a plant close by, I'd touch the screen to focus on a different object far into the distance and it had the exact same behaviour. You can't blame the camera as it does not happen with any other lens but sigmas. Sigma if you read this, please do something about it!
Excellent video friend, please does anyone know if they improved the autofocus issue with any update? Or has anyone else had that problem with that lens?
Disregarding anything else, there's just something I love about Sigma glass and the colors/vibe it produces. I've had both the Tamron 17-28 and 28-75, and honestly while they're perfectly fine lenses, they just look, uh, okay. Idk if the colors are cooler or what, but they just look bland to me. Loving my Sigma 24-70 on my a7S III and I think the Sigma 16-28 might be my next lens!
I LOVE the A7SIII/Sigma Art 24-70 combo. I was gutted to realise the 14-24 Art can't take a Variable ND due to the convex front element. Still, the 16-28 is the next best wide angle for that camera. Image quality is as good as the Art and although the build quality isn't quite as good, it's completed my lens line up.
Do the Sigma 20mm f/1.4 and the 24mm f/1.4 have the same problems with the focus? I am considering them or the Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 for night club photo AND video work. Which one would you recommend for such a use case?
How would you say the Sigma 16-28mm contemporary compares to the Sigma 14-24mm art lens? I have a Sony A7iv and am on the hunt for a wide-angle lens to do some pet studio photography. I have other Sigma art lenses but my biggest concern is weight. Those art lenses are heavy and I am worried that it might be too tiring trying to shoot one handed at times while handling animals with the other :) On the other hand you mentioned the AF in the 16-28mm was not great, which is a huge concern considering I am trying to capture not so still subjects ;) Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!!
He said “sus” lol. My kids say this all the time! Nice lens. I have the gm but considering the pz since I typically don’t need fast aperture for outdoors.
Hi Manny, I am debating getting this Sigma 16-28 F2.8 or the Sony 20mm F1.8 G.. I mainly shoot video. I already have the Sigma 24-70 F2.8. Which one would you recommend? Thanks
@@andreasvanhoutte Hey thanks a lot Andreas, really appreciate your reply that much time after your commented the video. Really appreciate. Actually I was on the way to order the sigma lol. Thanks man and have great day !
Maybe the autofocus will be fixed in a firmware update. Either way I’m in the market for a wide angle zoom lens and I thought my only affordable option was the Tamron 17-28mm until now.
Seems like the AF issues really only happen at 16mm going from minimum focus to far away. That's not something that bothers me too much, especially if Sigma releases firmware updates. This looks like a really beautiful lens to pair with my Sigma 28-70mm, which I'm honestly very happy with. Thanks for the review!
I had the 16mm f1.4 (aps-c lens), it had the exact same behaviour. I guess they're using the exact same software for the 16mm focusing bit and it has some issues. The lens I had is a prime, which makes it infuriating as there is no other focal length to choose from, so you're stuck with that.
Focus breathing isn't an issue at all.. recently I watched a 2022 movie on Netflix and in some scenes there was a tremendous amount of focus breathing and guess what, it didn't matter at all and I wonder why non-professional videographers and photographers who use cameras like A7 would really care that much about it.
Exactly. For any non cine lens (ESP a wide angle zoom), a small amount of focus breathing is perfectly acceptable. Esp when racking from close to far. In most general situations the focus pull will not be that extreme and therefore barely noticeable. One thing that a lot of these comparisons fail to mention is the Tamron's focus by wire system which is brutal for any kind of manual focus situations as it's totally non linear.
Some lens (sigma) still have more yellow color. If you have tamron 28-75 then take tamron 17-28 the same colors is better option. Some of 24-70 and 85 art have yellow tint and this is not for all copy wtf ;/

Good, fair, and honest review without any digs at other brands - love it.
No other reviewer compared the Sigma to the Tamron 17-28. This is why I come to Manny’s channel. Appreciate it!

Very difficult to decide between the sigma, the new sony 16-35mm G PZ and my 20mm f1.8... I think I might goo for the combo of sigma and sony 20mm
Sony 20mm is such a beautiful lens. Just about perfect in every aspect I care about.
The new 16-35 has brutal distortion which is a deal breaker for me.

I have since a half year and it work perfect for architecture and interior also for gimbal work you don't have to re balance.
I don't know if they will fix the AF. I'm sending my lens back. The AF is pulsating, that's unacceptable.
I own this lens and it’s great in everything except for the heavy distortion at 16mm. Even with correction turned on it makes it almost not usable…
