The funny thing is that he did not die to the bomb, you can see it in the kill log. As soon as he came to a complete stop Phly got credit for the kill and the player died. Then immediately after the bomb goes off.

Man.. one thing i hate about the Black Widow is that Gaijin still doesn't let you lock the turret forward for even more dakka power even though it was historically capable of this.
I think you can technically set it up so you can fire the turrets manually along with the rest of your guns, I'm going to have to go into the settings and look (It's fairly case use)
I used to get mad at historical inaccurate things. But after realizing this game is 100% propaganda I just ignore it lol

Right? We are talking about multiplayer, not singleplayer. You are fighting with real people, niet bots.
My step-dad was the rear gunner in the P-61c's during WWII, and would mostly run with night missions. He told me a story of one mission where they were coming back from a patrol and he was sitting in the rear gunner position as usual. Suddenly the plane jerked violently and he held on for dear life until the plane calmed once again. He checked his radio and was hearing no response. Wondering if the radio was out, he climbed back up to the cockpit to ask the pilot what happened. When he got there, there was NO ONE on the plane, they had all bailed out and with the radio out, he hadn't been told. He told me that he rectified that situation pronto and quickly got his ass out of the plane. Not his best mission but he came home after the war, so thus, he could tell the tale.

Also, that wounded landing… so satisfying. I absolutely love getting the chance to do those, especially in bigger planes. I sometimes play 4.7 just to take out the B-17 and occasionally get those moments in that. Nothing is more satisfying than making it safely back to base when speed alone is your primary means of maintaining lift. So much has to go right to survive and pulling it off is just so much fun.
Winning a battle with a rear gunner has to the be one of the best feelings in WT, especially if it’s a overconfident player.

So true. I enjoy playing bombers more than I do fighters. I have more air kills in a JU 87 D-3 from my ninja-level rear gunner than I do in any of my fighters.

Phly playing planes is soo funny to watch as he does not take it serious but his voice makes it sound like he is 😂😂, I want phly to play the star fighter and climb to space and just stay there😂.

Btw Phly, if you change your control mode to "simplified" while in gunner view, you can still control your plane with keyboard commands but it won't reset back to where your mouse was pointed

Can't blame them, though. I started playing anti-CAS fighters at low tier recently with some friends who are new to GRB, and keeping the bombs off my team has been both satisfying and helped win matches.
Hey thought you guys would like to hear this. Right near me is the Mid Atlantic Air Museum at Reading PA airport and it is restoring what will be the only flying p61 in the world. I think it will be flying within a few years but it will be magnificent.
I think that is the one they pulled out of the jungle in New Guinea. Glad to see its going to get back in the air
@Fulcrum205 yessir they've been restoring it since the 90s. You can see it at the annual WW2 weekend event being held in June. There are a lot of authentic ww2 aircraft there and hopefully this will be flying above as part of one of the displays one day
ive been following that project for years! the black widow is my fav warbird its great to see people working on getting one to fly. Their website hasn't been updated in a long time tho. have they done any more work in the past year or two?
It's great to hear there's going to be a P-61 back in the air some day, but I wish they'd just call it what it is/will be: a replica with a few original parts. That's what the vast majority of "restored" aircraft are. There's rarely much of the original left.
@@NZobservatory That would be true for most any old aircraft. Even aircraft from the 80s. It's not like Learjet or Beechcraft is still making parts for the Lear 20 or Twin Bonanza
Absolutely love this plane. Not something amazing that absolutely dominates the skies or anything, but thoroughly unique in its own right. One of the earliest planes with radar, has 4 hispanos and a quad 50 turret, with and impressive bombload to boot.
P-61s are very cool. I really wish they were re-classed as strike aircraft, since I can't really justify taking one over a p-51, p-47, or p-63.
I always climb and wreck bombers with it. I believe it is classified air defense fighter/interceptor in game which is its real life role

For engine fires you have to kill the engine and cut the throttle or it keeps feeding the fire, just turning engine off doesn't work well.
If you have an engine oil fire (It will be dark black smoke) you are kind of screwed, a steep dive MIGHT put it out.

I used to have a play model of the P61, but it was painted black. I really like the look of this plane.. One of my favorites.

The P-61 is easily one of my favorite fighters/interceptors for the US tree. I'm not too familiar with how it holds up in todays Air RB environment. However, I fondly remember carrying games and using the turret as a sort of schrage musik on bombers. The engines also seem to be injected rather than float carboreted, so going inverted was the dumbest yet easiest decision when defending agaisnt enemies with the turret, even when they fly into the deadzone. With additions like horizontal and vertical radars, along with airbrakes, it trully is the most well-rounded WW2 aircraft in the US tree, maybe in the entire game even.
Idk why but i LOVE when you bring in and land those badly damaged planes, it's just... *chef's kiss*

He made the big misstake of tailing the P-61. But it would make me very happy if you would test the Ikv 72 with aphe nuke shells.
Fun fact (possibly) if I’m not mistaken, the P-61 was credited with the last air to air kill in the Pacific in WWII. Unfortunately, the plane saw little service as its development took too long. It only served a short few months before the war was over.

21:37 That was excellent save. I couldn't pull that off. P-61s are part of my favourite air battle set (along with 3 P-47s and additional P-51) and I found that linkage is prone to damage and in that case I just j-out. IRL plane probably would be totaled anyway, so climb high enough for safe jump and bail out.

Free to play p61 is way better compared to the premium one ... but still situational. But i way prefer the f6f-5 at 3.3 with 2x1000lb bombs and 8 rockets + m4a2 + btd-1 with sea mines and 20mm guns

Many WWII planes I'd love to own, this would be on the list....but #1 is a Bf-109. Whatever flavor I could get. Me-410 /Bf-110 or even a Dornier would be right up there. German aircraft were just F'in cool!

I would want either a Spitfire without clipped wings and with a Griffin engine, or the late TA-152.
One time I parked this thing on the A cap on Poland and used it an an anti-air, got multiple kills. Such a fun airplane

I know they only made a few number of these planes and there’s even less that survive. If anyone really wants to see one that’s original, the Redding air museum in Pennsylvania has one on display being restored.

i tried this plane (the techtree version), but i hated that the gun-turret always turn forward, after using, so you couldnt manouver and shoot in short timeframes.
The turret should just stay where you left it^^
Especially when if the AI aims the turret, it will stay where they last put it.
The first plane I ever spaded in my journey was the p61 at 4.0 amazing plane.
I've had this aircraft since 2017. I don't remember it having 1000 or 500 pounders it just had 50's and 20mm.

Phly do you have a video on your war thunder control setup? Watching videos like this with the smooth bombing runs and defense against fighters while flying accurately is impressive. Do you use a flying setup when not in a tank like a HOTAS or is it all keyboard and mouse. Would be interesting to see the master at his controls and advice on setup!
He did nothing particularly better than a medium pilot. Just being fast with changing the view. What makes him better is his situational awareness. He doesn't headon, he keeps energy,... and in CAS he doesn't pancake for a kill, he predicts where to bomb... just more patience then just diving amd crashing
