I'm soooo glad I bumped unto this video. For yeeeaarrrs, I had hoped that this sort of flexibility would be created in Revit & I am beyond happy to know that it's finally come. Honestly, I can't even believe it.
I've always found modelling in Revit to be sooo rigid so what I've always had to do is do the basic drawings in revit then export the model to sketchup & finish up there & then re-import the model back to Revit. Even that workflow was very tedious & I'd be honest I never really understood how to make the sketchup components of the model identifiable in Revit.
With a software like FormIt now being as fluid, flexible & easy as SketchUp for modelling, it certainly is going to make my workflow better. I haven't even gotten FormIt yet but I'm already so excited. I didn't even know a software called FormIt existed until i randomly bumped into this video today
    Thank you!

Very interesting. Thinking of switching to FormIt in lieu of Sketchup.

Thank you for this tutorial, it's very useful! I have a question: when I link a Revit and a Formit file together, the formit does not have a link with the Revit file, it's just an import, not a link. Revit keeps the linked Formit file, but I don't understand how can I link the Revit file inside the formit file, so that when I make a change (or many changes) in the Revit file, the Formit file also updates the Revit link.
Right now, the only solution seems to launch a new Formit session every time I make changes in the Revit model, which makes this workflow very difficult. Does anyone know a workaround to this problem?

Autodesk made a copy of sketchup... I have almost 20 years experience with sketchup so definately need to give this one a try!

made a sketchup which is still not properly compatible. As you can see you have to do workarounds. Autodesk just doing Autodesk things as always.

It does increase the workflow but if it cant sync revit to form it will be more helpful , because U can only add facade on models from revit , but you cant sync edited model in revit to Form it , thats a big issue there tbh

Thank you Balkan Architect. This was really helpful. But I am a bit irritated by how Revit adds an interesting functionality but only teases us with some crucial obstacle. For example here we can do all fantastic work in Formit but then when you import it in Revit it simply only is a CAD import which can neither be used as faces to add elements nor converted into an object. The workaround you showed is good, but in the long run when one has many iterations it will get cumbersome. Also the last step where you edited a facade element, I would have loved if there was some way in Revit to immediately convert the form into Revit native elements. But Alas ! We might have to wait for another 2-3 years before that appears. THAT IS SO IRRITATING !!!

Does FormIt connect to AutoCad? This would be a great program for smaller projects (and designers) that dont quite need Revit, but do need a better drafting program than SketchUps Layout.

Hi you are the best, I have a revit project from 2017 and when i want to open it from the revit 2023 it says « revit file corrupted needs manually recovered » i dont know what to do. I used to work with a central model in 2017. And i dont know if the central model still exist and i have ni backup

Why would you not share that you can link an .axm files directly to Revit? In some ways it looks like FormIt/Revit workflows have simplified in recent releases but also that it may have lost features. Back with FormIt was a add-in you could convert a SketchUp Model to Revit using it. I also wonder about the lively hood of FormIt with Forma in the mix now.

Question. A use of sketchup is massing casework or millwork or furniture or lighting.
Can this do that and provide better support within a Revit file.

hi, does Formit have some similar to the sandbox function from Sketchup?

My office didn’t want to use it because of a lack of 3d storehouse, I don’t think there’s an easy way to import from a warehouse right

it is just copying sketchup. and it's a shame that Autodesk does not include it in Revit but sales it for 3000+ $$$ a year
