    Always liked the look of these , very clean goggles with no battery housing on it .

    I went the pvs-23 route, just got them in today cant wait till its dark out. Thanks for the run-through on the 9's I've only ever ran 14's until now...

    these are a killer deal from nocturnality. Probably going to get my first pair of nods from him. Once I get the funds saved up

    Im in training to become a 94R in the Army which is the job that mainly repairs these, theyre super straightfoward and easy to clean/maintain.

    Thanks for addressing the filters. I only read about them blocking green light and wondered how they perform, considering the typical gen3 has the sensitivity maximum in the green.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Arno nümuss The filters are pretty cool in some instances. My Anker battery I use on my PTS233 has blue battery indicator/on lights and through the Anvis they’re barely noticeable. I’m tempted to find a blue tinted cover to put over my dash and see if it works the same instead of covering the dash to block the light.

      @@NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION Nice idea. Considering the blue shimmer of many night vision optics, it's likely that not much of that passes. I looked through some lenses with that blue tint from behind and the image seemed warmer. Not sure if that bit of dimming explains it all though. It could also be a effect of gen3 tubes, without extended blue sensitivity. Maybe test it with a gen2+ and gen3, to see if it makes a difference. Also the micro channel plates on modern tubes are designed to block highlights. It also depends on the light you filter. If the car uses incandescent bulbs in the dashboard, a big portion of the brightness will be from the IR light. If the blue filter also blocks that, the difference will be big.

    • @Anna-1917

      Pretty sure gen 3 has max sensitivity at around 840nm

    • @heyarno
      @heyarno 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Anna-1917 It's not that simple. Back then I didn't know many details. The sensitivity maximum in the green are early gen3 tubes with zinc doted photocathode. Modern ones are doted with indium or phosphor. The indium dating makes the sensitive deep in the near infrared. While the phosphor doting makes them more blue sensitive. Some use a mix, to optimise for customer requirements. And the thickness of the caesium oxide layer also influences the sensitivity maximum. It's a compromise between sensitivity and dark noise. So now, unless I know the specific alchemy of a tube, I withdraw all claims.

    I just traded my Panobridged PVS-14s for a Nivisys NAVG-6 (ANVIS-6), I liked my Pano 14's but on my ballistic helmet they were just way too heavy, looking forward to my ANVIS-6's!

  • @yellowthunder92
    @yellowthunder92 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That ball mount is designed to release the ANVIS9 on the event of a hard landing. I forget how many G’s it takes to make them release. That blue green filter makes some lights like tower strobes completely invisible to the user. Always need to scan without it otherwise you run the risk of a collision.

    • @M14Jeep

      That makes sense, I've read about early special forces helicopter pilots suffering severe neck injuries from the weight of their night vision and the added momentum on their head.

      I fly with these. The ball mount is pretty stout, the plane will break long before these NVGs come out of the mount. I bash mine into the HUD constantly and they haven’t popped out yet.

    If you got a set for free, would you put them into another housing? Make 2 PVS-14’s or a more durable housing for on the ground

      I’d use them until they broke (if you break them) and go from there

  • @thermalvision203
    @thermalvision203 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Do you know if the PVS-23 is any good? I've heard that it's basically an ANVIS-9 without the filtering, a more rugged housing, and an internal battery compartment.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s an old design and is only available with thin filmed tubes. A modern improved option is the TNVC-BNVG-M. It has the advantage of being available with unfilmed tubes and swappable ANVS or BNVS (dovetail) interfaces tnvc.com/shop/tnv-bnvg-m-artemis/

    Jesus they're sloppier than I expected, I saw that thing flex literally every time you touched it. Also get a dummy cord instead of bungies, no tension to pull the, out of the mount AND you still don't lose your nods in a drop.

    I thought the difference between 6’s and 9’s are the optics. The objective to be precise, IIRC. I could be wrong, though.

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION
      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be they use different lens filter classes for their cockpit lighting requirements. I'm no Anvis expert by any means. Hopefully somebody who knows 100% chimes in

    • @mikethemaniac1
      @mikethemaniac1 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wheelchair Operator They're similar in both cases, however later variants of both have low profile knurled focus rings rather than the four lobe design.

      Wheelchair Operator I found this webpage. Cliff notes: The Anvis 6 was the designation selected by the Army and the Air Force chose Anvis 9. The 6 used translating lenses like what I have on the Sentinel and the 9 the non translating lobed lenses. I believe they are all lobed now however

    Well.....these didn't make it very long :(
    A helmet height drop (Mrs accidentally knocked it out of the ball plunger mount) onto our wooden deck w/ rug completely cracked the PAS (pivot adjust shelf) in half. Not getting very much info from people on how to swap out the PAS. Been quoted $700+ to get it repaired with more shitty Anvis parts. I'm going to have to recommend passing on a pair of these unless you get them for a killer price and budget for a replacement housing like an RNVG/Mod-3/DTNVG/etc. when you break yours. I think with these goggles it's inevitable. They're just not tough enough.

      @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      jwrappuhn71 Thanks. Do you mean gen as in the generation of night vision or something different? US citizens inside the USA can buy all gen 3 image tubes and devices with them inside. No restrictions other than you can’t buy certain military goggles that are restricted by the manufacturers. That would be the PVS-31 and GPNVG mainly. Both are too expensive for civilians anyways. -31s are around $12-15k and the GPNVG is $30k+

    I was getting ready to suggest JB Weld for a possible fix but your recent email beat me to it! I have only used JB once in my life back in 1997 and it worked great for me, i actually used it on a new bathroom faucet that had a hole in the metal drain portion of the install, mixed up a little JB and filled in the hole and no more problems to this day!
    Hey im about to order one of those zone 3 blemish PVS-14 from N-Vision Optics, was that the company you bought yours from?

    • @NITEWALKER-NIGHTVISION

      Willie Fistergash There’s so many different types of JB now it’s crazy, lol. Yessir, N-Vision Optics. If they don’t have any available they’ll probably have to put you on a list, but they seem to get them relatively quick compared to some other places.
