- Santhosh Narayanan talks about his 25th album, Vada Chennai, directed by Vetri Maaran. He speaks of the song, Kaarkuzhal kadavaiye, and why he wanted it in this album. He talks about his sound and why it came about, and how he goes about composing a song. He speaks of how ideologically inclined directors like Pa Ranjith and Mari Selvaraj have shaped his work and his life.
He speaks of the gaana song's resurgence and how his gaana songs are different from those by Deva. He talks about Karuppi, from Pariyerum Perumal, and his rural songs versus those by Ilayaraja and others. He speaks of his love for MS Viswanathan. He discusses how he composes background music, and his pet cause of substance abuse.
He talks about how he chooses a genre, and why he works with a particular set of singers. He name-drops Attakathi, Pizza, Soodhu Kavvum, Jigarthanda, Iraivi... He concludes with thoughts on his new open-door policy about interviews and whether it will last.

I'm a Maharashtrian guy, introduced to Tamil music by my Tamilian roommate. One of my first 3 songs was Ennadi Mayavi Nee. This was 2 years ago. I am these days exploring one Santhosh Narayanan soundtrack after another. Pariyerum Perumal is my current favorite. Great music director.

It is a gross irony of life that we allow musicians to take illegal substances to influence their music (example: Jim Morrison of The Doors) and a generation while we call Athletes who take drugs to enhance their performance as cheats. A cheat is a cheat! Whether it is a musician or an athlete - it doesn't matter. I am intrigued by how the society shapes the thinking and accepts people like Jim Morrison as influential ones when all those artists were just a by-product of their substance-abuse experimental generation. If you call that creativity - then I should be in a different world!

💙SaNa is Better than ARR 💙. 💙Vadachennai Album is 100% better than Sarkar Album.💙
Vada Chennai album is better than Sarkar, very true, SaNa better than ARR, not. A musicians merit is not one album, it's his body of work. Sarkar's mediocre essence is probably the scope of the film, remember how Bairava didn't do much to SaNa's name, or even how Raja sir was associated with Muthuramaligam. People like GNB, IR, MSV, ARR, their musical spectrum stands unmatched in years to come. But right now, SaNa is probably the *ONLY* one from contemporary MD's heading towards musical greatness, along Ghibran maybe. Vada Chennai ; SaNa's personal best after Cuckoo.
