- Checking out some 29 year old beef and 54 year old peanut butter.
You can't always count on vintage MRE's to still be fresh - it's always a toss-up. And this one sure is a mixed bag - So check out how it fares!
Throwing in a little something extra in the end. This was a fun one - hope you enjoy it too!

My dad brought home a huge cargo crate full of late 80s and early 90s
MRE's when I was young. We'd take them camping or just sit outside and
eat them on a summer day. I have good memories of those simple times. Unfortunately hes no longer around, but these videos take me back to my childhood and even choke me up a little, depending on the ration of course. Funny right? Anyways, thanks for these videos, man... Nice!

First off, Happy Anniversary Steve! What an amazing year it's been for you and the ration review community! Second, it's too bad (but not surprising of course) that the entree had gone bad on that MRE. It was very cool that everything else was good (practically like opening up one of those fabled frozen MREs!). I'm still so psyched that I got that surprise FD Strawberries in the one you sent me! It's always a surprise (sometimes pleasant, sometimes not so pleasant) to open up something from 1987, 1962 or whenever and seeing what did and did not survive the passage of time. Anyway, glad to see you're still eating history...one ration at a time. Nice!

How funny! I remember eating those first generation MREs when I was in the Persian Gulf. We lived on them for 6 months straight. Thanks for the walk down memory lane Steve! You earned a like and a follow.

I was in the Navy 1982 to 1988. We used to trade with the Marines and MREs were really popular trade goods. The Navy still used C rations although it was very rare to actually eat the things. Even during combat opps we could brown bag it. I never reconstituted the beef patty, just ate it like a cookie. The coffee creamer packs served in the mess were so old they were no longer a powder but they still dissolved in the coffee. Not saying much there. So did cast iron.
What were the dates on the C rations? Late 70’s or 1980?

Congrats my friend, I am so glad you didn't chip your tooth, get tetanus, get botulism, go to the hospital, or die. You are insane, but in a good way. This has been a staple channel for a while, always nice to see things work out. That food from the 40's and 50's gets me everytime. Came for chesterfields and phillip morris, stayed for the "Nice".

The ground spiced beef always tasted like really cheap spaghetti sauce to me. Oh, and the next time you get some dehydrated peaches try reconstituting them in some water with the coffee creamer. They're much better that way.

Peanut butter always seems to be good, as long as it's sealed up ok. It's 11:45 pm and now I have to get some PB. "Nice".
I'm amazed that they wrote "Beef, ground, with spiced sauce" on the packaging instead of "Beef, ground, with sauce, spiced".

Another use for the P.B was to mix the mosquito repellent and P.B,light it on fire and used it to heat the food rations.Vietnam Vet.1966-67 back to RVN 1971.
