So they've basically taken a well established brand lineup and divided it into 2 versions, where one of them has nothing to do with what the original branding used to mean, just causing a bunch of confusion - rather than just creating another branding for anew concept of products.

its about marketing for a company that pushes out new processors to meet consumers they are running out of how to make it better and faster 4.0ghz or higher i don't see the point unless you doing all kinds of rendering and editing or something that uses all the power you can get out of a processor but gamers core i7 with a good gpu with 4-8gb gpu ram with 32gb computer ram whats really new about the gold processor seems they are throttling it down with a high price tag

My Core 2 Duo is staying focused though : 2 cores, 2 threads, and 2 years to process simple tasks
The reason why Intel and AMD used the 3, 5, and 7 series is because it was determined that the BMW style of naming conventions was the very best. It allows the use to know what each group the product comes from, i.e. a 5 series BMW. From there they can have various options, but it is still a 5 series.
Imagine Intel making lootbox CPUs. You buy a CPU and after opening it, you see what CPU you get.
its kinda already like that lol, you can get CPUs that can clock higher then others, yoiu're only garanteed it'll work at the stock speeds, but depending how well its been made you could get a really good one. they call it the Silicon lottery actually

Because fps is more important than graphics. You can game on a 144Hz monitor on a good CPU and cheap GPU on the lowest settings but you can't have a good gaming experience if your CPU sucks
Pentium Silver is based on the low-power, SoC based Goldmont architecture. It has more in common with an Intel Atom chip.
Pentium Gold is based on the more powerful, mainstream core designs like Kaby Lake and has more in common with the Core i-series.
I remember years ago Intel had Palladium, but never actually released it due to fears the copy protection features would block or control certain computing environments that were designed to be less controlled, such as Linux.
Pentium Silver being a totally different product than Gold must be one of the worst naming decisions ever...
Next up: "Intel Octa-Core" but its an additional graphics chip for laptops without dedicated GPU.

CPU architectures take years to develop, and to fix these issue requires Intel and AMD to, at least, partially redesign the architecture. Spectre uses speculative execution, a fundamental part of modern CPU architecture, as an attack medium.

These 3 5 and 7 naming scheme is genius.
let me explain:
there is no cpu witch 3 or 5 cores. It's always dual or quad. It's more logical to name it i5 quad core then i2 quad core or i4 dual core. That's means name is not connected to cores but rather to relative performance on one generation.
So they use the ''even'' and ''odd'' numbers like that.

Just retired my G3258, was a total champ and is still amazing. Silver looks great for htpc's. Keep on flyin', Pentium.
For them to be valuable options or not, it depends only on their street price. I'm also hoping for AMD coming back to the low-budget market

Perfectly happy with my Pentium G3258 anniversary edition for everyday tasks. Celeron N3050 as backup lappy is also just fine for most video decodes, and it sips the battery.

I used Intel Pentium Silver on the Acer Spin 1. It was a beautyful experience, it was fast, I could play GameCube games at full speed and I could play Sonic Adventure DX. I have never seen such a good computer, but that's probably because I only used a 2009 PC before that.
These are actually very eco-friendly, budget-friendly, x86-compatible chips. The Celeron based ODROID-H2 does some of the same amazing emulation stuff, ETA PRIME and some other youtubers might've done videos on that particular ODROID.

The "2" in Core 2 means that it's the second generation of the Core line. The Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad are a newer generation than the Core Solo and Core Duo etc.
Why should the 3, 5 and 7 numbers mean cores? They're tier numbers...

Story Time: When I was only a kid with an 1800MHz AMD Duron, I always wanted an Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading. Time passed I upgraded to an powerful AMD Athlon XP 2000+. After a long time (nearly 5 years of pain, suffer and low FPS ) I upgraded to an Pentium Dual Core E2180, 2 Cores at 2 Gigahertz (in my knowledge it was equal any single core at 4GHz), this processor made me love all Pentiums, I still love them even if I don't use any Pentium anymore.

I remember when Intel did that weird card slot for p3, have two computers that use that. I also had a p4 ht, in fact I use it today. Just need to upgrade the ram, win xp mce doesn't like 512Mb of ram.

Today I have a handfull of processors, all kind of Socket 3 and Socket 7 processors, AMD 462s, Intel 478s, Intel 775s, AMD AM2s and AM3s but none of them have a properly working motherboard. I simply like them :) I remember these Slotted Pentiums, I had one that I mistakenly removed while working.
