As a Total War player, you cant throw the torches like that and expect do to great damage or burn the stone wall. And the defender archers that let the enemy cavalries get close to the wall and throw torches at them.(facepalm)

It would have been more effective to throw pouches of oil onto the platform then throw the torches.
as a total war player I find the concept of archers shooting from the wall perplexing and unrealistic.
