  • I always wondered why they call it the simple present. There are six different ways to use it, and none of them involve the present!

hi! :) I'm from Brazil and I'm beginner student English. Please , what's the difference between sentences:
How long do you take to cook dinner?
How long does it take you to cook dinner?
What is that : "does it take you" . ( ??? ) it's more easy to think "do you take to.." than "does it take you.." So, the first sentence is more easy since the two have the same meaning , or not ?
thank you so much and I hope you understand me. :)

+Uedja Brandão This is a great question, and I had to spend a lot of time thinking about it.
Both sentences are grammatically correct, but the first one just felt "off" to me. I feel like this might a colloquial difference but, if you add "usually" to the first sentence, it doesn't feel strange anymore. The second sentence, on the other hand, feels normal without adding anything.
To make a short answer, I suppose they are both correct, but the second one feels more natural. Sort of like saying "I have large news" rather than "I have big news". The first is technically correct, but feels strange.
      Hope this helps!

Hi dear, I am from Morocco. Wow !! Gorgeous, but you made a small mistake. You should not say 'I sleeping... this is a present continous'

Abdelilah Sah he said, “I sleep in” which means that he goes to sleep, he did not say “I sleeping.”
