I made those perches months ago thanks to you showing us how. They work fantastic and I have to thank you for showing everyone again. It's so calming watching the birds enjoy their drink. I look forward to you and Gary teaching us the easy way to do things.
I bought several of these feeders. Fill them and store in frig. When replacing just grab one for the hummers. This gives my visitors a cool drink to enjoy.
Cold food isn’t good for them, I take my liquid out of the fridge, fill a feeder & put it on the counter in the morning when I wake up. Then once room temp I put them outside.

In her area they probably have the hummingbirds that migrate in the Winter. If they stay all year round, they’re ‘Anna’s hummingbirds’, and Anna’s are fighters. Each one will claim a feeder and chase off all others.
I love how creative you are! Call me lazy, but I carry 3 feeders in at a time, clean and refill them, then carry them back out 😂😂. But, I have a good ways to carry them, plus 4 steps to go up and down. I sure get my exercise lol. ❤😊😊❤
Lazy person here. I keep a spare feeder on hand so I can fill it and just swap it out with one outside, which I bring inside and clean. I repeat this the next day with another feeder.
@DarqJestor That's smart to do that. I clean and refill on average, 10 to 14 a day, sometimes more, sometimes less. With as many feeders as I have, they have plenty to use while I am cleaning the 3 I carry in, so I don't worry about keeping an extra feeders. I have bought extra feeders, but I ended up putting them outside too lol.
I’ve been doing this for years. The red part screws onto a liquor or wine bottle perfectly. I used jute string to make a hanger. Can get creative with the bottle colors and shapes. I use the reservoir part to make hanging topiaries with my houseplant clippings.
Genius! I keep breaking the glass feeders and don't buy these cheap ones because I know they prefer to rest while eating, but now here's the solution. Many thanks!
So I did it, I went to the Dollar general and bought two more feeders and I did the little wire maneuver and within 15 minutes they figured out where the new feeders are and flocked. Thanks for the great advice on cheap feeders!
I use these too,Robbie. I love them because once they fade from the sun or get broken, I toss them guilt free. They are so cheap....I use PAPERCLIPS to make the little perches. I have more of them than bread ties. Works perfectly.
I live in the East County area of San Diego, and I am an amateur photographer. This April I placed two feeders in my backyard. There were so many hummingbirds that I was constantly making nectar. Got some really great shots of them once I figured out to get them in focus in midflight. I bought a book to learn more about them. They are fascinating creatures. Every time I tried to wrap the twist tie around the flower base it pulled the flower plug out. My problem is I can't get the hummers to my yard/feeder. They go to my neighbors on the street behind me but never over here. Any suggestions? I use the feeder from the Dollar Tree and make your recipe for the nectar. Even though I don't see any hummers I was putting fresh nectar out every day. I didn't fill the feeder obviously but did put enough to be able to tell if they were drinking any. I have it hanging on one side of a bird feeder stand and a small basket of safflower seeds for other birds on the other side. I even tried just hanging two hummer feeders on the stand and still no hummers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Oh and I also have different kinds of plants on the patio around the feeders. Thanks in advance.

Hey Robbie and Gary, been watching you for a couple of years now. I'm trying to attract more hummers. I see in this video at 6:18 or so a flower can you tell me what that is? Thanks
I have a cheap $3.48 feeder with place they can stand and my Hummingbird like it. But I have only 2 birds coming to it but there used to be 3 and I had the same 3 every year. Just wish more birds would come. I live in an apartment complex and my feeder is allowed in back of my apartment surrounded by other apartments. Any suggestions on getting more to come, I have it hanging over my flowers which they leave alone.
How do you scrub out the Dollar Tree feeders with the super small necks on them? I have a few of those feeders but have so far refrained from using them due to feeling that I can't clean them well enough to be safe for them to use. 😕
I bought one of the dollar tree feeders last year but it attracted wasps and bees. The bottom section is actually two parts. The flower part above and the bottom tray part. They snap toghether and creata a seam there. Well the seam is below the level of the nectar when full. The wasps hang onto the seam and drink as the nectar drips through there. Then the bees figure that out and do it to. The biggest problem is that the wasps are very aggressive and make it hard to get to the feeders to clean and refill. They also want to fight the hummingbirds too. After awhile i just filled a coffee cup with the sugar water for the wasps. But then there were 20 to 30 wasps and they would fly in, drink and then drown. The next day there was 30 to 40 wadps. I felt bad killing so many and I only had 1 hummingbird, so I gave up.
Different model. Some of the dollar store feeders are pretty awful, but the model Robbie showed actually works pretty well -- a lot better than some much more expensive feeders.. The only problems I have with them are 1) windy locations (these feeders don't have any partition to keep the the nectar well separate from the outer rim) and 2) the holes in the feeder ports are just a little too small -- the flowers (a.k.a. bee guards) definitely keep the bees and wasps out, but the hummingbirds don't seem to be all that comfortable with them, especially if there is any wind. I think this is a major part of why the hummers want a perch to feed from them -- the steady perch seems to make a fair bit of difference. Around here, at least, I've only see these feeders stay up and in use in quite sheltered locations. (Maybe Robbie has some perspective on this?)
You also have to make sure the bottom two parts are kinda of snapped together....if it gets off track from the little groves even a little bit, they will leak. If they are leaking or sealing at all, it's probably off track a bit.
I had the feeder hung from a tomato cage so the humming bird could land there and then fly to the feeder. I did not have any ants but every time I went to fill it up I found one or more dead earwigs inside. Kinda gross and it meant I had to clean it out every time I filled it.
I tried the dollar tree feeders but they seem to like Walmart pinch waste glass feeders for $10.68 the best. The problem with mine is they will get too hot if they are exposed to too much sun and the tops want to split. Keep them in the shade and it doesnt happen though. 😊
Hi Robbie! I got the feeder, made the perches, and the hummingbirds do not appreciate it! They drink out if the other feeder (different one), but don’t drink out of this one! Have you had any problems with them?
Robbie I see your videos with these feeders and I gave them a try. My husband made very nice perches for them, I put them out at the same locations I have had my hummingbird's favorites from Perky-Pet and no hummingbirds came. NONE. The feeders I have used for years were restyled and expensive. I had bought several and the screw on plastic parts where the hummers feed all broke. I was SO upset. As I said, they are expensive. Well, my hummers would not take to the $ Tree feeders. I used my usual 1 part sugar to 4 parts water. Color me disappointed. I have now replaced them with the ones they like (Perky Pet improved the screw on plastic parts so these are not cracking, thank goodness!)
A large paperclip 📎 bent into a triangle can be slipped over the flower and makes a perfect perch too!
Yes! I do that too!
Thank you !
I think of them sitting as eating in. While the ones without the seats is a drive-thru! LOL!

The only problems I have with them are
1) windy locations (these feeders don't have any partition to keep the the nectar well separate from the outer rim) and
2) the holes in the feeder ports are just a little too small -- the flowers (a.k.a. bee guards) definitely keep the bees and wasps out, but the hummingbirds don't seem to be all that comfortable with them, especially if there is any wind.
Love it, and so easy of a fix
Hi Robbie! I got the feeder, made the perches, and the hummingbirds do not appreciate it! They drink out if the other feeder (different one), but don’t drink out of this one! Have you had any problems with them?
Great video!!!! ❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing. Your tips are great!
LOVE ❤❤❤ BEAUTIFUL
How you do you get Ants from drinking out of it?
wow, love it ,thank you so much .
Great video … how many camera do you use ? And what type of the camera ?
Good morning Robbie. What kind of camera are you using??
Do you live in Valley Center? The landscape behind you looks kind of like that.
How do you keep the ants from getting into the feeders?
Not only the bee's, but I have a problem with the ants!! Smart little stinkers! What to do? 😣
