Excellent work even more considering the date it was made and the young age of its creators. Very good tribute to this series and to Gerry Anderson in particular. Greetings from Chile.
Bravo!
As a kid I watched Anderson productions regularly. As a teen, I kinda loved Space: 1999. This...was very cool. And the animation technique ? ...somewhere, the Andersons are smiling ! Thank you for sharing
Thank you Peter, this is greatly appreciated. Yves and I had a blast making this fan film. In 1979, we would never imagine showing it to so many people around the world. Social media can be a great thing sometimes.
Thank you. The intent of any film is to be watched and it is nice to know that this short fan film is well received by so many people. Yves and I had a lot of fun making it, that's for sure.
Thank you James. I must be perfectly honest with you. The special effects have been, like the rest of the film, retouched digitally to add stars and to stabilize the images. Super 8 has very poor registration and the whole picture moves when projected. In double exposures, you could see the two objects floats independently, ruining the intended effect, so I fixed this problem by digitally stabilizing everything. The Space: 1999 effects crew used very stable 35 mm camera equipment and everything locked perfectly. That said, this is still the original Super 8 film stock but with minimal image enhancements as I wanted to keep it as close as it was in 1979, minus the annoying imperfections of Super 8.
We worked on several other scripts and storyboards for more animated films but life kicked in and other priorities took over. Yes, I wish we did more indeed. And today, with all the technology at our disposal, it would be somewhat easier. Super 8 filmaking was hard.
Extraordinaire !
Wow, so I wasn't the only one!!! I also did one with GI Joes in costume with cardboard sets. Yours is ten times better though. Lots of action and sound effects. Mine only had music. I like that it was done in 1979 - so was mine, and I called it Space:1979. Good times.
It was definitely the 70's disco era ,I have the Space 1999 year two sound track CD by DERRICK WANDSWORTH and its very disco,Especially the drums and the wonderful 70's Keyboards/synthesizers and spacey sounds on it !! Partly why I loved to series,It was pure 1970s! A great era for television.
I was only 8 when the show first appeared on American TV and I loved it. I was also a fan of horror and a lot of the first season episodes had kind of a creepy quality to them. While I didn't hate the second season, I was disappointed at all the changes they made. I especially hated that they got rid of the Main Mission set and went for a really cramped control room. They could have at least added a line of dialog about it being destroyed by a meteor or something. It didn't help that its scheduling was very erratic with episodes often being cut or not shown at all because of ball games. "Time approximated after ___ball." became my most hated phrase whenever I'd see it in the listings. Followed by "We now join our regularly scheduled program, already in progress." Yeah, thanks for letting me watch the last 15 minutes! I never even got to see the episode that introduced Maya until many years later, so when the second season started, I was wondering where this new alien came from.
In the end credits, you can read that the original Super 8 film shooting occurred in 1979. Of course this was a silent film then but it was recently digitized, cleaned and stabilized, and a soundtrack was added.
Ron Stewart Original music and sound effects have been used for the sound track, so copyright is not the issue because Yves and I own no rights of any of this material. The film is public on TH-cam because we made it as fans and we wish for people who also enjoy the TV show to see it. The original Super 8 was silent and the story made to flow without dialogue. I feel that it still works today without dialog but the added audio makes it better and more fun. ;)
Admittedly, the introduction is low quality because I salvaged as much from our very first attempt at Stop Motion, plus the fact that the digital film transfer is poor for that part. The real film starts after the main title and quality improves in that section.
The first minute we kept is low quality but it is better than what we are not showing. Our animated version of "Breakaway" simply does not render justice to the episode and Yves and I do not wish to show it. What was kept and is used as the introduction to our second film, L'Enjeu, is to explain to those not familiar with Space: 1999 why the moon travels in space all by itself...
Amazing! This must have been months and months of work!!
Yes, from script and storyboard to execution we started in 1978 and completed the film in November of 1979. It was a lot of work but all fun.
Excellent work even more considering the date it was made and the young age of its creators. Very good tribute to this series and to Gerry Anderson in particular. Greetings from Chile.

This is absolutely amazing!!!
An ambitious project for 16 year olds, the equipment, knowledge and the times. Amazing!
Too awesome. Has the feel and the camera and sound effects of the original.
Just so much work in creating something like this....awesome!...du beau boulot ca les gars!

Well done Yves Lapointe and Sylvain Labrosse !
That was fun to watch. I really liked the use of the dolls.
Made with a lot of heart!
And sweat. And a lot of fun too.
Made with more heart than Freiberger put into the entire series 2 !
For a silent 8mm movie this is really well done!
Thank you!
Awesome, simply amazing a must see 👍
I love this! And the fact that it was made in 1979 makes it so much better. Well done!

Absolutely fantastic!!
Bravo.
impressive remastered!
Awesome on so many levels!!
Excellent! You did an amazing job with the stop motion and the sets are fantastic.

Génial tout simplement !!!
Really great film! I'm very impressed by the level of effects for a film shot on Super 8 back in 1979! Wish you made more!

Do you still own that Super 8 film? I would be interested to see it.
I do, somewhere. Maybe at some point I'll put it on my channel. It's rather hard to follow though.
Love it, well done in that time
Great film! Really enjoyed watching this, and has a lovely original 70s feel to it! Great work!!
Thank you. It was done in 1979 so it was still the 70's then. Even if disco was fading out... ;-)

Awesome job!
Dolls. Now it looks more like a Gerry Anderson production.
I hope you noticed that we used real hands in some shots... ;-)
Superbe! Beaucoup de travail j'en suis sur! Vive les GIJoe et les Barbies! (Ken devait pas etre content! Il faudrait en faire une version "Live"! :)
I’m a bit late o the party but this is epic level fan appreciation!
Well done!
Well done!!
Very groovy!
Bon boulot !!!
Parts of this remind me of the Season 2 episode with Schell, Anholt & an uncredited David Prowse.
You are absolutely correct, this was indeed inspired from The Beta Cloud episode in Year 2.
Fabulous
Cool work my friend.
Very nice! I wish you'd used the season 1 theme music though. That would have made it perfect. :)
Admittedly, as an adult, I much prefer season 1 now but we were kids when we shot those images and we enjoyed season 2 for what it was. Ho well...

Cool
Very impressive I enjoyed the graphics/ animation but why no voices?, I assume copyright issues .

No, unwatchable due to excessive use of anti-focus filter. Just trying to watch 3 minutes gave me a headache!
Admittedly, the introduction is low quality because I salvaged as much from our very first attempt at Stop Motion, plus the fact that the digital film transfer is poor for that part. The real film starts after the main title and quality improves in that section.
