    I tried everything I could to get a Vive system working on my Mac Mini, all I wanted is to cast a desktop on the goggles so I can work anywhere with a perfect glare free view (I’m not a gamer lol). I went and bought a Vive, then a Vive Pro (which was supposedly announced to work on Mac), then after troubleshooting also got an external graphics card and power unit, and still nothing worked. Thankfully it was all on Amazon and I got refunded for “bought wrong item”. Anyway, in that process I had installed Windows on my Mac through Bootcamp, so technically I have both Mac OS and PC on the same machine now. So I started on the ground level again not worrying about Mac, and came across the Oculus Go. This gadget is exactly what I was looking for. If using Windows, desktop easily casts right on there using Virtual Desktop app, and can use the controller as a mouse that also pulls up a virtual keyboard to type with the controller, or just use my wireless mouse and keyboard plugged to computer. You can move the screen every which way, near, far, curved around you... Nice. In addition to this, I fell in love with the streaming capability (TH-cam, Hulu, Netflix, Facebook etc, all with various 360 video experiences in addition to manipulating a 2d screen to your desire), and also the games are unreal if you’ve never tried VR. There’s not too much game selection but the store does have a bit, you won’t get high end video games but there are plenty of more simple games including multiplayer. I already got 2 other friends to get a Go so we can wingsuit skydive race on the “Rush” game. So cool. If all you’re looking for is VR streaming, desktop cast, or simple games this is fantastic for the price. I am interested in the Quest too tho and will upgrade at some point, the see-thru augmented reality stuff would be even more helpful. I hope to see VR and the Go become more popular... so we can see more content developed for the App Store!!

    The oculus go may be used for first-time VR users. It is a great step up from your standard Phone VR headset with no controllers. I have tried the Go and I gave it to my brother who has never tried VR before. It was great for him. He said it was great watching movie in Bigscreen and playing with his friends who owned a quest. People who have never owned a High-Res display might not notice the difference. My first "VR" really ruined my experience with VR. It was a smartphone headset called the "Stealth VR". It was terrible. I did end up getting back into VR. I now own a Rift S and it is great.

    It doesn't seem like a good buy for techies, which is most of us watching this video. I feel it's still missing killer content for me for the most part and the lack of 6DOF is significant as well.
    But this is a great introduction for non-techies like my mum and dad. They've had a blast. And tbh, I have enough game consoles that I use this more for the Maps-type app, viewing 360 TH-cam videos and that big screen Netflix feel in bed. I don't think I'd want 6DOF on this for what I use it for. A few months in I think maybe now can 'graduate' to the Quest, but a relatively inexpensive, portable VR device is perfect in many ways.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, it has its market and fill a gap to help introduce people to VR. 👍

  • @Larry
    @Larry 6 ปีที่แล้ว +45

    I don't mind not having 6Dof per say, its just the inability to lean forward or look over things I miss. There should have been some motion like that, likr add an accelerometer in there or something.
    Also lack of extra storage, should have had a micro SD card slot in it.
    BTW you should look into Windows Mixed Reality if the Rift is a pain to set up constantly, that's just plug in HDMI and USB into your PC and you're done!

      From my use anything more than a couple of hours and I want to take it off anyways. That's the same even with my Rift. My face needs to breath. But I get what you're saying, for the price point they had to cut it somewhere. Santa Cruz may have a longer battery life.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha yeah, it defo has a use... For that.. Cough. 😉😉
      But for the price it's a decent amount of time. Maybe a larger battery with the 64GB version could have been a good idea. Maybe next time.

    Honest review. I purchased this on line, received it today and am sending it back tomorrow. First the apps are complete BS you're better off surfing the web on your tablet or whatever. Secondly the headset is SERIOUSLY uncomfortable. Really heavy on your face as well. Itll give you a headache. The graphics forget about it. I had a Samsung Vr when it first came out but upgraded to a phone it wasn't compatible with and gave it away. I'm here to tell you I will be ordering that model again. Its wayyyyyyyyyyy better than this mess. I promise you. Like I said I received it today about 4pm and at 848pm boxing it back up. Dont waste your money. It's way more expensive than the Samsung Vr but definitely not up to par...TRUST ME.

    Ok, so I am planning to get a vr headset, but I don't know which one to buy. I am on the fence on either the Mirage Solo or the Oculus Go.
    I would love to get the Solo mainly because of 6DoF, but I have heard the games and app selection is significantly lower than that of the Go.
    Also, comfort. People have said they got sweaty more easily in the Solo, and that they experienced more discomfort because of the plastic thing other than the straps on the Go.
    I also have a few questions about the Mirage Solo. Can you get Netflix on it? Can you watch TH-cam on it? On Amazon, you can get either a used one for $200 or a new one for $400. Would it be okay to get the used one? I'm kind of on a budget, as I'm 12 and can't earn money very fast or efficiently. I would love to be able to save up and get a Rift, but I don't have a gaming PC and my parents will most likely never let me get one anyways.
    I really want to make a good choice about this, and hearing anybody's opinion on this would help so much.
    Edit: omg this took way too long to write 😂
    another edit: Okkk I just heard about the quest and how it doesn't need anything with it. Should I save up to get this instead???

    Another selling point over the GearVR or even the Daydream view is how fast you can get into VR. No taking off your phone case, finding your headphones getting it all connected, finding there is gunk on the screen, taking out to clean it, etc. With the Go you just put it on, calibrate the controller and done.

    Please forgive the very ignorant comment, but I literally just started seeing commercials for this within the past week and I've never heard of this before. The cost may not be in my budget, but I'm trying to learn more about it because it looks so cool. Is this really mostly for gaming? Or can you use it to watch movies and if so if you have Netflix or Hulu for example can you somehow add that in and that's all people watch movies without having to pay anything? Is this too heavy for a child's head, my eight year old would love to play games on this I bet

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Check out the rest of my channel, I have dozens of videos about this device it's great. In all honesty its more for media and than games, you have Netflix and hulu apps, so if you have them you can use your accounts on this.
      I have two boys, 7 & 10 and both have no issues with it, my 7 year old is always asking to use it and fits him just fine, maybe little big but it does need to fit our heads as well. My kids love the rhythm games like Beatron2000 and the shooter called Slightly Heroes, but you can lose days just browsing the content available, 3D 180 and 360 is amazing and I love it.
      Let me know if you have any questions and I'll try and help.

    @ThorKCade 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm getting one tomorrow, but I have PSVR and REALLY want Quest, but it will probably be a while before I can put together the funds while the Go is now only $149.... Should I just return the Go and save up, or keep it to stem the mobile VR cravings for now then give it to a loved one for social apps?

    • @ThorKCade
      @ThorKCade 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @AviatorsChannel With the PSVR (and a couple cardboard viewers) I feel like I do know the basics of VR, and one of the reasons I want Quest is to motivate me to build a gaming PC... But I also want mobile VR--I wanted to get Gear VR but now that I finally have a Samsung phone, it just happens to be the first one to NOT support VR: Galaxy Note 10+....
      So with the Go available for $149 I'm hoping it will satisfy me until I can afford Quest, but I was wondering if you think it'll be worth keeping or if it would be better to be $150 closer to wireless 6dof + PCVR.
      Thanks for the feedback! I'm excited to get it soon!!

    I found that plugging it in while using it does not result in the battery being charged. It still dies as if it's not plugged in. I have to turn the device all the way off to charge it. All in all I'm finding the power system of this device to be quite janky. I'm looking for a battery cradle to hold a few 18650s externally and making them swappable.

      Are you using a 2A charger? I find I can keep mine charged when plugged into a 2A plug. Although when I record and stream I can't get enough power into it to keep it going more than about 2.5hrs. Guess it means it's good if we keep running it until it runs out. 😉

      It not recommended to use while charging (probably risk of explosion) but its safer to use an powerbank. To avoid heating up make sure oculus is at 100% charge and powerbank should keep it topped off at 100

    The Wii controllers had 6DoF didn't they? Because if they didn't you couldn't play the boxing games, so couldn't they just do the same thing with the oculus go? But maybe they're waiting to use that for the Oculus Quest.

  • @rmzzz76
    @rmzzz76 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    First you have to make a distinction between mobile VR and the full 6DoF VR experience.... Devices that offer full 6DoF (Rift, Vive, etc..) are going to lure software developers to create VR experiences that require 6DoF. That always means standing up at minimum, usually standing with some movement around a cleared room. What tech geeks overlook is how non-practical that requirement is for mainstream. Oculus has said that they have found most people prefer to experience VR seated. With a device like Oculus Go (GearVR and Daydream) you have platforms that force developers into creating experiences that are limited. But this limitation is CRITICAL to getting developers to build high quality stationary VR experiences that can be enjoyed on a bus, an airplane, a long car ride, etc... This is the line between mobile VR and let's call it Full VR and it's a good thing for everyone.... Yes, the GearVR delivers maybe 80% of the experiences but it's not a stand alone unit, you're draining the battery life of your phone to use it. Your going to get interrupted by phone related messages when using it, because your phone's processor and Android OS are busy trying to multi-task all these different things at one time, it's going to hinder the performance of the experience (yes, even on high dollar phones.. the background processes for cellular are expensive computationally). The Oculus Go gets rid of all that baggage that comes with the GearVR and delivers a cleaner experience that's going to have less slow down even with the somewhat dated processor. The Oculus Go delivers a true VR Operating System/Platrform.. Yes, it's a forked version of Android but it's modified to be exclusively for VR. That distinguishes it from GearVR even if it evolved from GearVR. Add in the Go having the most comfortable VR headset and amazing price point ($200! they have to be taking a loss on this thing) and it should be a no-brainer buy for all Vive and Rift owners who want to be able to take VR... on the Go. :)

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      100% agree, it's the perfect mass market consumer VR headset. We just need to get it in more people's hands (on their heads) as everyone loves it that I've shown it to.

    Hello RaMarcus, great videos! I have an Oculus Go now, and bought some games from the store. I was wondering, how confident do you feel that newer and better content will be produced? I am concerned that the current games that I have bought are as far as content will go. Is Oculus Go dead, or will it be an ever growing thing (like how Minecraft had humble beginnings). The current paid games that I have feel like novalty minigames. I am after a game that I can 'rot' as my younger brother says, unlocking customisations, stat upgrades, weapon unlocks, team battles and throw strategy at.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      There will always be new content but remember the Go is pitched mainly as a media device. We have the Quest coming out in 2019 on which will be more focused on games, but twice the price. The Go has some great games and it's a lot of fun in social VR experiences. It won't rot or die, there is a big market for those that don't priortise gaming.

    I’m not a gamer so easy decision to get the GO. Was very surprised on how good this turned out to be. I wanted to comment early in my experience so far because there’s a lot that could cause some frustration if it doesn’t go well. There’s a lot of bad video out there and I was beginning to think VR was overrated. But then I loaded some good video and wow, it was like being in a IMAX movie theater. I think once the quality of new video improves this will be awesome. It can be very dizzy experience if somebody doesn’t know how to shoot VR film. A steady camera is needed unless a roller coaster is what you enjoy but if somebody shoots footage with a lot of movement in it, it can get you dizzy or even motion sick very quickly. Battery was great, as most times I could only stand having it on for a couple of hours anyway. Once you pair it to your phone it’s so easy the next time. It pretty much connects itself just like your phone connecting automatically back to your router when you arrive home. All you have to do is turn it on and wait for it to boot up. I just realized as I’m writing this that I’ve always started the GO while it was still plugged (green light on indicating that it was over 95% charged) in to the charger so it was never not plugged in when I pressed the same start button ( on/off button) to boot . So that might be important, don’t know! If your trying to use your app to boot the headset each time I found I didn’t need to like you have to do with some WiFi vehicle cameras. The Bluetooth connection for the controller was automatic also. It just paired itself. Could be why there’s little printed instructions given with this, just follow what the headset is telling you what to do in the screen. It’s wanting to get a payment system set up so you can purchase stuff like tv shows and games but this is not a good device out of the box for gamers for sure. Oculus recommends Google Dropbox and Facebook account but I don’t understand right now why but I have a feeling that if you want to interact with your friends in social media your going to want to do this eventually. I’ve never not had my phone or iPad near except when visiting the restroom and video stopped briefly (but could have been because of peeking out of headset so I could see where I was walking but still had audio! Go figure since the sensor on the forehead pauses everything if it doesn’t detect something there, don’t think it needs to detect a brain considering what I needed to do. It buffers a lot sometimes and other time not so I don’t know what’s going on there yet. I’ve only used this three times and I have a lot more to understand about this device and at present I feel clueless of how to do anything other then what is in front of me to watch but I have a feeling VR is like the beginning of the internet boom and as more people get into it the quality of this medium will improve. I got a Vuse+ VR 360 degree camera coming in the mail in a few days and I heard a you tuber say he uses this headset for viewing his content. Probably going to enroll in a course or two. I’m very excited about this!

    Great video. But you forgot "lack of SD card support". For me that's the biggest deal-breaker (just before the disappointing low mAh's for the battery). What can you do these days with only ~20GB free space (on 32GB model tho), when the device is made for QHD (video) content? You copy 2 high res movies on it, and that's it. On the other hand, I bought myself 128GB sd card for ~$35, so I would be more than happy paying extra $15 for unimplemented sd card slot, and not $50 more for additional 32GB they offer in 64GB model. To some that's marketing, but to me as customer is almost offending. I think I'll pass this one, and wait for some other less limited VR experience.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is true. I got the 64GB version and mainly use streaming services from home so it's not much of an issue. But having SD card support would have been a massive win.

      I would suggest checking Facebook for a cheap Gear VR headset, they're dirt cheap as lots of people get them free with their phones and don't use them. The Go is better and totally worth the money but the Gear VR is about 90% the same experience, its just an all in one package that won't drain your phones battery. Plus most apps and games you buy on the Gear VR will also work on the Go, you won't need to buy the game/app again if you do upgrade to the Oculus Go.

I love it and sent my daughter info on the Oculus Go as she uses Apple for her phone and PC and thought it was a cheaper alternative . She loved it so much she bought me one. ;) I use both, but play different games on each. I play controller required games on my Gear because I can plug in 2 bluetooth devices- my headphones and controller. I play both while plugged in, so as to not drain the battery, but have not had issues with overheating. Google Insta360 Crystal View. Its not out yet but the format allows you to playback super high resolution video on the Oculus Go.
      As for transferring files, you can just connect it to a PC via USB, accept the message which appears on the headset and transfer away. I've done a video on the process th-cam.com/video/FqOa9Ar2rvY/w-d-xo.html
      There will hopefully be USB storage as an option soon, maybe announced later this week.

    Just a question. I wear prescription lenses, my IPD is 63,2 which is less than the up to 64 requested to use Oculus Go. Thus, no problem, I can just use my progressive glasses with the Oculus Go, in the same way I use it with my Gear VR Headset. What about the lack of FOV's regulation on Oculus Go? On Gear VR, by adjusting the wheel that is in the middle upper area of the headset, you can make the phone to go closer to the lenses or further away until everything looks sharp. Is there a way to do this with Oculus Go?

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Go uses fresnal lenses so they're tiered in a away that means you dont need to set the IPD. It comes with a glasses spacer which pulls the headset away from your face a little more, and people with glasses see to use it fine. You can buy prescription lenses for the Go if you prefer not to use your glasses, but that is extra cost, but a nice option if you're the only user.

      The PSVR is the most popular VR platform, selling 3 times its closest rival. It not had Beat Saber and some of the best VR games on the platform, it's not old but i guess they may announce an updated version at some point but I've not heard any word on when that'll be.

    That sharp level increase in the volume during your transitions was irritating. I have a Go and a Rift. I can’t say it’s worth it as I only watched Netflix in it a few times and played 2 games, neither of which were anything more than a tech demo in my opinion. If you want to experiment as a developer, go for it. Otherwise, what’s wrong with watching movies on your TV? You can use a virtual desktop app to watch on a very large screen, but the resolution just isn’t there yet to make that more worthwhile. The social aspect of being able to watch with friends in a shared screen might make it worth it if you can’t all get together in one physical location for whatever reason.

      Just got the go yesterday on sale for $149.00. So far I've used it for prime video, and it's just like setting in a theater watching a movie. You can look around and see the seats, and it gives you an environment like you are actually there. No boarders on the edge of your view. It's like its infinite.

    I love my Go, and I think it's totally worth the buy for almost anyone. At least for now, it's probably the absolute best option for someone who wants a good basic VR device, at a cheap price. And it has a lot of great games now too. It's cheap enough that kids can save up for it, or it could be purchased for them as a gift. My brother's kids can't get enough of it, and they'll probably be getting it for black friday or xmas, especially if it drops in price at all.

    I have a question. I'm a trucker and I think this would be a lot of fun when I'm bored and stuck inside my truck, but I use my Verizon data for Netflix and such. Can I do the same with oculus go or would I have to create a hotspot and use wifi? I have unlimited data but only 15g of hotspot wifi, which might be a deal breaker in my case.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Oculus Go doesn't take a sim card and uses WiFi so you'll need to create a hot spot. One way around your data cap is to sideload the Netflix android app, download Netflix content in advance at home and use it in Oculus TV when on the road (not literally). You need Internet to boot up Oculus TV but if you're watching downloaded content you'll save yourself a load of data charges.

    Hey Marcus, I'm currently using a $3 "VR" headset from Walmart, you just put your phone in, and everything is "mirrored" or if you look at a object on it it has two of those objects, is very blurry, will this be a good upgrade? Is there blur or mirroring on this?
    Thanks.

    • @RaMarcus
      @RaMarcus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends what phone you're using. I would say it's as good as using a Samsung S7. Mirroring is possible but an official way to do it is hopefully coming soon (check my latest video for more on that).

    • @iyarugt409
      @iyarugt409 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't talking about Mirroring like that, more of like the object that I am looking at in the VR gets distorted / duplicated, blurry.
      Also, I'm using a someone "bad" phone, NextBit robin, doesn't have the best display.

Buy groovr experience for ten dollars and get a spotify premium subscription and ull never listen to music the same way again. And watching netflix is awesome too.

      "Assuming the oculus go is as immersive as the rift", No, it wouldn't be. The rift has full head tracking and can even be roomscale (so you can walk around a little, stand up and crouch down) the Go is stuck in one position in space at all times. That's a huge difference in immersion, huge.
