Watching this vlog make me miss Paris again! Was there 2 weeks ago and loved every moment of it! My hotel was next to the Cambronne metro station and I take this green 9 train all the time 🇨🇵
Very exciting to see all the improvements being made to the Trocadéro! I’m all for adding more public green areas. Outside of delivery trucks, I have no idea why anyone would WANT to drive in Paris. It’s a huge pain! Oh, and for the love of all that is holy, don’t rent a car in Paris just to leave. It’s a pain to get out of the city and it usually costs more! 😂
People would drive around Paris just to get to work. The Olympic Games set up would make the trafic worsen. Espcially for buses and trucks Been living in Ile de France for almost 3 decades, I always use the Public Transit (dont have the driving license 😁) Gave you thumbs up.
People who work outside of Paris often need to drive. I know someone who’s a landscape architect. Her projects are all over France. She’s also originally from another area of France, so she already had a car. There’s many reasons why people have cars in Paris. But, as a tourist, unless you want to pay extra for parking, and you really know what you’re doing, it wouldn’t be my recommendation.
I'm a big fan of public transit, too. I think they're planning on adding more park and rides for commuters to drive to the periphery and then metro in, which seems a good solution for those not near an RER stop.
Thanks Jay for all your great updates on the city . Used to work round there and greener will suit me loads when I finallt get back there 🤞Bon weekend..
Hey Jay. You've touched on it in the last couple of videos, but I'd love your advice on how to get around the rest of France after visiting Paris, esp vis-à-vis car hire. Thanks!
Cool timing on the metro tip I was literally about to head down there to see the Metro exposition. Just checked TH-cam while my hair dried. Also the statue is Foch, so a good misdirection but also there's plenty to say about him too.
The guy on the horse is the bloody Ferdinand Foch was a French general, Marshal of France and member of the Académie Française. He distinguished himself as Supreme Allied Commander on the Western Front during the First World War in 1918 which is true. Most like the French hero of WW1. It’s barely sunny in France these days, sir. C’est rarement ensoleillé en ce moment même Most likely cloudy and rainy. The Sun never rise in the French Empire While The Sun never set in the British Empire
I have the ability to come over most of the time. But, I am waiting on warm. I am glad Jay is everyday, helps to plan, like looking outside to decide which coat to wear. 😂 🌴🌴Aloha
@@ADAtrips It’s still and currently cold though in Motherland France. Better bring a puffy jacket with a hoodie. Don’t do like like Jay. Been living Ile the France for almost 3 decades and it’s bloody true
My friend and I have a photo of us in the plaza with the Eiffel Tower behind us. WE, at that time, could continue down the stairs and walk under the Tower. You can't do that anymore and that's just too bad. It will be great to see how it actually ends up after the Olympics are finished.
I watched your video and realized that I've never known what the Trocadero was used for. After a little googling, it looks like there is a lot to see there and that the beautiful garden that was built in the 1800's which I never knew. One day, could you take a deep dive into the museums and things to do there, Jay?
Great memories of Trocadero throughout my childhood. My best souvenir of it was taken a picture of Eiffel Tower before the countdown and moving on the 21st century during the Jack Chirac Era and Zinedine Zidane Back at that time in in the 80's, 90's and early 2000’s, you can just freely walk underneath the Eiffel Tower until 2015-2016. Gold old times Couldn’t care less about the Olympic Games though. They’re just making the Traffic Jam worse which eventually would piss the French off The guy on the horse is Ferdinand Foch. When I was in Paris back in '89, one evening, several of us were out to dinner with our chaperone and she took some of us to see the Eiffel Tower this way but in the evening. Glad to see the barriers are gone (they were still up when I took my wife and cousin and his wife to Paris and out to see the Eiffel Tower back in '22).
So glad you are show casting the before the Olympic progress moving forward, I am getting excited about seeing how it turns out. Keep posting more on the Olympic set up. Merci
Haha Jay, I’ve been here just a year, but I think I’ve already become a bit Parisian, because when you mentioned fitting nine or ten big vans in the traffic median I immediately thought of the big white CRS vans … 😂
Hey Christopher, thanks for being so active in the comments. I really like to keep this comment section helpful and encouraging, so please don't knock other people suggestions. We're all different with different tastes; the Musée de l'Homme is also particularly well loved. Absolutely feel free to disagree but please keep it kind!
What you're seeing is work for the Opening Ceremony. So, all of that will be taken down the first week of August -- and then they will start work on the permanent Look after the Paralympic Games.
The traffic congestion in Manhattan is also entirely manufactured, and then they can change “ congestion pricing’ why is that a good thing though? It’s made up.
Absolutely love that they are increasing common green areas in the city. THIS is how you urban plan; not more parking lots and lanes of traffic.
Yeah! 🌳🌳🌳

There is a ton there it's true
We are only renting a car for local trips. One in Avignon for four days to see Luberon and in Brive to see Dordogne.
Sounds fun!

Those barriers were quite the eye-sore, but they did provide for an excellent JR installation for a while =D
I have been to paris before and though it’s busy I still find it amazing. I’ve been looking for a reveal spot for a while and didn’t think of troc
Great to see them improving Trocadero. The last time I was in Paris, that area looked very tired.
It was overdue for some love
It was absolutely lovely early today. It really felt like spring. Then it started pouring rain and hail. Wish I could send Cooper a stick!
It was sunny yesterday Friday. Then some days keeps pouring
The Sun never rise in the French Empire. That’s why 😂
True spring in a sense 😆
So glad you are show casting the before the Olympic progress moving forward, I am getting excited about seeing how it turns out. Keep posting more on the Olympic set up. Merci
Bet they would be a delay 😆. It’s just 4 months away before the kick off
The French have a knack for pulling things off last minute 😆
As a Swede I find it strange that the promenade to the left of the lawn is named "Avenue Gustave V de Suède". Also that it is called an "Avenue".
Avenue means "Street" for French which is totally makes sense
My wife is Swedish, she would appreciate you to wave the flag 🇸🇪🌴
Witnessed our first Paris protest from atop the Eiffel Tower Sunday-yesterday. Quite a scene/sound. Hi Cooper!
✌🏻Jay
Thanks for the great video.
6:30 I just hope the Olympics teaches people to use more public transportation.
We shall see. I’ll still be working by Summer and couldn’t care less about the Olympic Games. Going around in Paris by then wouldn’t be easy

Amazing content. Very informative 😊
Glad you think so!
5:49 BIG STICK
😆🐶🌳
I can’t wait to see how it all turns out after the Olympics!
Same!
Glad they're tidying up Trocadéro - for one of Paris' most iconic locations it was beginning to look very unloved!
It was definitely getting gnarly
Poor Cooper... "But, Dad! Wait! My stick! We can't leave without my stick!" 😂
😆
When I was in London, I used a taxi only for a short distance because I had many bags.
Helpful for sure
@@JaySwanson Honestly, buses have ample space for stuff
I’m wondering how much won’t get completed?
We shall seeeeeee
Makes me relieved, that my delaying my June trip to Paris (torn knee ligament), until the early fall, may have benefits.
Might be amazing. Hope you heal well!
@@JaySwanson Thank you!
Don´t forget the museums in the two large buildings, for instance "Musée de l’Homme" and "Cité de l'architecture et du patrimoine"!
Who cares. There’s not much to see in those 2 building. Le Musée du Louvres remains the most appealing one to visit

@@JaySwanson And I thought you wouldn’t reply my comment.
And there used to be the Musee de la Marine in one of those Bldgs. They've probably moved that one somewhere else now.
I used your recommendation from you when I showed the Eiffel Tower to my sons for the first time. It was quite a reveal.
Glad it worked!
Why are there no public toilets around the Trocadero and the area around the tower?
A question for the ages
Great video, what will be the real situation on first week of June? i have been hearing a lot of places are under construction
There are a few Indian song set in Trocadéro. It’s beautiful.
Do you know when that will work be finished?
No clue 😆

Troc needs a public restroom, in my opinion.
Also true
❤
🥂
I hope there’s a future Urban Studies chapter on Paris in 2024.
Right now that construction is to limit traffic lanes for Olympics and building out the media center for the Olympics.
Media center makes sense
The traffic congestion in Manhattan is also entirely manufactured, and then they can change “ congestion pricing’ why is that a good thing though? It’s made up.
👍💐👍💐👍💐👍
🎉
Hm. Trocadero is a soda for me
Cooper n'a pas le droit de faire pipi sur la nouvelle pelouse ni de rapporter des branches d'arbres à l'appartement. Quelle vie de chien !
😆😆
Vadr 069 = Nice. 😂
Good catch 🥂
The more you know...
Dun dun dun dunnnnn dun dun ⭐
@@JaySwanson 😅👍👍
I suppose driving in Europe is very much the big American family holiday thing.
Partly - a lot of French people drive too. The congestion in the city is definitely not American haha
