I also loved Andrew Garfield in the role of Peter Parker. He captured his smart alecky wisecracking side better than Maguire (who captured his nerdy side the best) or Holland (who captured his youthful innocent side best). And Emma Stone is great, too, though I don't really see her as Gwen Stacy personally. Aside from that, though, these movies frankly sucked, IMO.

I'll be the first to admit, I was sad these didn't get a third (or subsequent) installments. These really had some intriguing plot elements I wanted to see develop.
Fun fact: the heartwarming part about Flash being the first to console Peter at school is actually a huge testament to the abuse he suffers at home in the comics.
People need to realise that we never had a bad spiderman portrayel on big screen. everyone is different and unique .Tobey is classic his portrayel is iconic just like Christopher reeves superman and Andrew Garfield is just great actor he brings some realistic tone and performance to the character while Tom Holland is doing great in the mcu with a wider universe and still growing

Betty Brant was actually his first love. He says in one issue of Amazing Spider-Man "Betty was the first girl I ever loved -- they say you never forget it 'cause first love is the truest love of all. Maybe it should never have ended".
Gwen was originally supposed to be the love interest of Peter in the comics but MJ was way more popular! When you watch Into the Spider-verse you'll also get to see a cool version of Gwen👀

What do you mean *supposed* to be? She was most definitely his love interest, and aside from MJ herself, his most lasting and impactful one. Let's not downplay her role in Spidey lore! MJ was extremely popular, but she was originally introduced _to spice up the Gwen/Peter romance_ and be in competition with Gwen for Pete's heart. A Betty vs. Veronica type thing. But MJ wasn't initially as serious about Peter as Gwen was, so Gwen became the steady girlfriend, and was for a long time. MJ sort of was to Gwen what Black Cat became to MJ later on.
I'm not even halfway through and it's already VERY fanfic themed reaction 🤣 Loved this version of Peter and in my opinion this Gwen is so much more likeable than MJ from the first Spiderman films.
This movie is ACTUALLY my FAV of ALL the Spider Man Movie Old and New. it just hits on every beat for me... ..most true to comic accurate Spidey in my mind for character and story.... The look of The Lizard did bother me in similar fashion though....not green enough and the face was too human. . I won't talk about ASM 2 ..don't want to get yelled at by other commenters on hear..... lol . Thanks for the reaction
You won't get yelled at by me. I wish, just once, someone would comment on how much Emma Stone's extemporaneous portrayal of Gwen ("...what what?...chuckling, then whispering "...oh I'm in trouble...,"etc.) added so much to the story (and the trying not to smile at the end in the classroom). And Horner's gorgeous score. I love this movie, and, well, won't be yelling at you about your not talking about ASM2. I may be an outlier, but I found the movie a beautiful portrayal of the story of Peter and Gwen, amidst the backdrop of having to deal with the monster. And this type of thing isn't typically seen in most other superhero movies, where the entire movie is about good guys and monsters pounding each other. I cried watching this. I really enjoy the human element, the relationships, the love, the angst, and all that. :)

Yeah, their portrayal was so good, it's the only reason ironically enough that I can't watch ASM2 as much as I'd like... they were so real and captivating that it made 'things' that much more tragic and I can't watch that again :/
I didn't like the Lizard's face either, but if you look at the first appearance of him in the comics, that's closer to how it looked. He didn't have the big snout yet. But yeah, they should have gone more classic.
For me it was the pinkness around the eyes, like as if it was a human wearing a latex mask. I find it a headscratcher how it made it past the sketch phase, like not continuing the green through to the eyes. Even when I see it used as a screen capture for youtube vids, it just looks like a mask you buy at a store.
Well, maybe not my fav, but when it comes to orgin stories, it is my fav (which, honestly, isn't hard because I disliked the Raimi version and the MCU basically skipped that part). I certainly enjoyed that movie and would have loved to see what would have happened next without studio interference.
This movie is great. It got jokes ,fight,swinging ,relationship,and connecting back story and much more But people are so influenced by haters they are afraid of backlash, No matter what they say this is one of the greatest spiderman movie ever to exist !!
Interesting how this Spider-Man didn’t get the same motivational speech as the Raimi one, it’s almost the like he needed to be called out by someone like Gwen’s dad in order to stop leaning into his self-centered vengeance, being the selfish vigilante, and become a real hero. It’s not that chief Stacy is totally right in his criticisms, but Peter still needed to be shown what he looked like from the outside and what he risked becoming without some perspective.
He did sort of get it, the way it's worded is very much like the"Ultimate Spider-Man"comics, right down to Peter demanding to know where his father was to tell him before running off angrily(and, in the same way, Peter doesn't get to see his Uncle again before he dies). I think thats one of my favourite things about this movie. Spider-Man doesn't start out as a hero, he's trying to find a place to funnel his anger, but eventually he decides to do something good with it, leaving his hunt for the man who murdered Uncle Ben for good.
I think around when that happened they should've had him switch out the black eyes in his mask for the classic white eyes. It'd fit symbolically, but the white eyes are also a lot easier to see when it's dark so it'd be better if he had them at the climax.
TO EVERYONE WHO THINKS PETER IS SUPPOSED TO BE SHY AND NERDY. There are several adaptations of Peter Parker from the comics. It's not just nerdy and shy Peter that Stan-Lee has created.
OG Spidey in the comics isn’t nerdy and shy at all, he’s the original wisecracking hero. His mind is always running a million miles a minute since he’s a supergenius, and so is his mouth. In fact, he’s so iconic in this way, that when Deadpool first came out a lot of people gave him shit for being a carbon copy of spidey, with the red patterned outfit and ‘merc with a mouth’ persona. Deadpool and spidey tend to have a bit of a rivalry for this reason in canon, they appear alongside one another a lot and there’s a lot of back and forth between them Andrew Garfield’s portrayal was actually far, far closer to the source material than Tobey’s, who was basically a brand new character
He's my fav spiderman! He is a fantastic actor and really put his all into the character. And i enjoy his accent best. I also believe this love story most out of all the love stories within the franchise. I also like his dorky but chilled vibe. A more accurate version of a ners imo. Nostalgia have my generation saying Tobey is the best and that's fine but to me Andrew is the man !
you've probably already heard this but i still wanted to mention it - since you were wondering about mj... andrew actually pitched an idea that peter is bi, so mj could be male in his 3rd movie, and he wanted michael b jordan for this role :D
What got me through this morning´s P.E. class was that when I´ll get home I can finnaly watch this. I don´t mind that this Peter is a bit cooler, I like that it´s different than the original trilogy. I like how there is a different main love interest and the romance is just great. I think the acting is really great. I appreciate no more screaming and also how the villain didn´t kiddnap Gwen. I love watching this movie as comfort, I remember a period of my life where I rewatched it so often.
To me, Tobey had the nebbish, awkward appeal of classic Spider-man, while Andrew had all the charisma and wit of a modern Spider-man. Tom's take is somewhere between the two, which I think is cool as his transition from awkward to charismatic sort of mirrors how Spider-man has changed throughout his history in the comics.
Cool fact that I really like. In the comics spiderman was so strong that once when doc oc switched bodies with him he one punched a guy. Spiderman has to hold back sooo much. Also I love Garfield as Spider-Man. Sadly the movies didn’t give his take justice enough. The scene where the workers move the cranes to help him is one of my favs. Also you should check out Venom at some point. I just recently watched it and really enjoyed it!
I can say that they rlly pull on the heart string with Andrew as spider man 💀 he plays him so well idk why he’s hated all the spider man actors brung something to the table
None of the other spidermen have made me feel how andrew garfield's portrayal of spiderman made me feel. He's truly amazing (no pun intended) and deserves way more recognition.

The car driver at 18:55 is the killer of Uncle Ben from the first movie. He wanted to play the killer again in this movie but they wanted to differentiate these movies from the original trilogy.
He had a assassin called Finisher murder them and frame them as double agents. This version of the Red Skull took over when it was believed the original was dead.
27:55 Doctor Connors isn’t an evil person . The Lizard DNA he injected himself with infected his mind and this is after the antidote was wearing off The Lizard DNA so he was getting his humanity back at this point
I cant believe people actually like tobeys ben better..... he was in the movie for like 3 minutes to say a line then die. Andrews ben was truly like a father to him and gave him some extraordinary advice, love his take, won't be beaten for sure. His aunt may was spectacular as well, I personally enjoyed her more than rosemary just barely.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, I love this film so much. I even love the second one, I think Andrew did an amazing job and I'm really proud of the way he did it!
The father of the boy Spidey saved on the bridge was played by C. Thomas Howell, a popular actor in the '80s. Gwen is just of many line of woman Peter has dated in the comics, being one of his earlier love interests. Mary Jane was going to be in the sequel (TASM 2), but her scenes were cut out
This is actually my favorite SM movie of ALL ❤️ I love the story, I love Andrew as both (he’s just perfect) I love Gwen, I love the suit 🔥 the second one is pretty good too (and I prefer the villain there)

As a huge Marvel and Spiderman fan, I have to say, there were never any horrible Spiderman movies. I grew up with Tobey Maguire (Spiderman 3 was actually the first movie I ever saw in a theater) and to me was an all around perfect trilogy and held true to Spiderman expectations (fun fact, Tobey Maguire was actually originally set to star in 6 Spiderman movies before the reboot to Andrew Garfield). Andrew Garfield is a great actor, and his movies' universe was probably the most top notch Spiderman action we've seen, however for me personally, I felt they gave Peter a little too much confidence (except when he first met Gwen) and that his Spiderman escalated in strength and skill faster than I would have preferred to see, but this saga definitely saw a modern take on Spiderman. And finally, with Tom Holland's, it takes what I see as the best from both. The young/un - experienced take where he can grow and develop his confidence more, and the which is given the best opportunity to do so with his story expanding across the MCU. Looking forward to more reactions!
Peter is not actually supposed to be nerdy or a geek. He's just more of a loner, so he doesn't have a category he fits in. He's extremely intelligent and witty, and when he has the mask on, he does make fun of his enemies just like Andrew does. Peter was also never bad looking. He was handsome and bit antisocial. Andrew is my favorite Spiderman and Peter Parker. I will always stand by my opinion ❤
And you are damn right! Tobey's is nostalgia but he was not the best portrayal neither is tom's only if andrew got better scripts we wouldn't have to debate about it he factually is a better actor then both of them

I think when he saves the boy on the bridge, he truly realizes he's Spider Man. He's meant to help people, not just hunt down the guy who killed Uncle Ben. He also realized Capt. Stacy (though he's an ass) was right about Peter only being after his uncle's killer, that he wasn't helping (at least intending) to help anyone, he was out for revenge. He ran off as soon as he saw each guy wasn't his uncle's killer. And I think it's important they never had him find the killer, because irl, cases go unsolved and it's something Peter has to live with. I liked that change.

@CYB3R2K30 maybe in your school but not in my experience. But still I never really liked that point 'he is too cool' because peter has that nerdy aspect but he is still cool. For example, some my favourite versions of the character are still nerdy but cool like the Spectacular Spider-Man and the Spider-Man PS4. I think they could have gone for a more tidy look for peter tho. Like having his hair a bit more tidy.

Flash actually has a character arc in this movie. He isn’t just the bully that hates Peter like in the raimi movies. He goes from being the bully that picks on Peter to relating to Peter’s pain during his grieving time for uncle Ben, to being a genuine friend to Peter. That’s some character development right there. Also fun fact, the reason Peter made his suit out of rubber in the sequel is because of how he was electrocuted near the end of the first one.
I can't say that he's my favorite Spider-Man but goodness gracious do I love him! With Spidey you don't have any pressure of choosing a favorite anyway bc the Spidey-verse was a thing even before the multiverse and that makes me happy. I don't see much hate about any of our three life action versions because they can easily co-exist.

I always felt Toby's, Peter Parker was pretty bland ,where Andrew has this "nerdy but sexy twinkle in his eye, especially with the scenes with Gwen. Both played Spiderman equally well. One thing I can say is of all the actors who played Spidey, Tom Hollands' version fits best with the MCU crowd. Sorry for jumping ahead with my opinions, but wanted to mention it. Yeah, most people didn't connect with this portrayal of Peter, because he just played it too cool for most fans. Peter is just more believable as the humble somewhat nerdy personality that Toby and even Tom brings to the character. In the comics Gwen was as big a love interest as MJ much of the time.

He did get it from Uncle Ben. Maybe you didn't realize it 'cause the dialogue was a bit different.
He did sort of get it, the way it's worded is very much like the"Ultimate Spider-Man"comics, right down to Peter demanding to know where his father was to tell him before running off angrily(and, in the same way, Peter doesn't get to see his Uncle again before he dies).
I think thats one of my favourite things about this movie. Spider-Man doesn't start out as a hero, he's trying to find a place to funnel his anger, but eventually he decides to do something good with it, leaving his hunt for the man who murdered Uncle Ben for good.
I think around when that happened they should've had him switch out the black eyes in his mask for the classic white eyes. It'd fit symbolically, but the white eyes are also a lot easier to see when it's dark so it'd be better if he had them at the climax.
The scene when Peter smash Flash against his locker, that was perfect...
TO EVERYONE WHO THINKS PETER IS SUPPOSED TO BE SHY AND NERDY. There are several adaptations of Peter Parker from the comics. It's not just nerdy and shy Peter that Stan-Lee has created.
OG Spidey in the comics isn’t nerdy and shy at all, he’s the original wisecracking hero. His mind is always running a million miles a minute since he’s a supergenius, and so is his mouth. In fact, he’s so iconic in this way, that when Deadpool first came out a lot of people gave him shit for being a carbon copy of spidey, with the red patterned outfit and ‘merc with a mouth’ persona. Deadpool and spidey tend to have a bit of a rivalry for this reason in canon, they appear alongside one another a lot and there’s a lot of back and forth between them
Andrew Garfield’s portrayal was actually far, far closer to the source material than Tobey’s, who was basically a brand new character
He's my fav spiderman! He is a fantastic actor and really put his all into the character. And i enjoy his accent best. I also believe this love story most out of all the love stories within the franchise. I also like his dorky but chilled vibe. A more accurate version of a ners imo. Nostalgia have my generation saying Tobey is the best and that's fine but to me Andrew is the man !

What got me through this morning´s P.E. class was that when I´ll get home I can finnaly watch this. I don´t mind that this Peter is a bit cooler, I like that it´s different than the original trilogy. I like how there is a different main love interest and the romance is just great. I think the acting is really great. I appreciate no more screaming and also how the villain didn´t kiddnap Gwen. I love watching this movie as comfort, I remember a period of my life where I rewatched it so often.
I always felt this Uncle Ben's death harder because I'm such a big fan of Martin Sheen, the actor who plays him.
To me, Tobey had the nebbish, awkward appeal of classic Spider-man, while Andrew had all the charisma and wit of a modern Spider-man.
Tom's take is somewhere between the two, which I think is cool as his transition from awkward to charismatic sort of mirrors how Spider-man has changed throughout his history in the comics.
This one's my favorite one - their chemistry is just 🔥🔥🔥
Cool fact that I really like. In the comics spiderman was so strong that once when doc oc switched bodies with him he one punched a guy. Spiderman has to hold back sooo much. Also I love Garfield as Spider-Man. Sadly the movies didn’t give his take justice enough. The scene where the workers move the cranes to help him is one of my favs.
Also you should check out Venom at some point. I just recently watched it and really enjoyed it!

I cant believe people actually like tobeys ben better..... he was in the movie for like 3 minutes to say a line then die. Andrews ben was truly like a father to him and gave him some extraordinary advice, love his take, won't be beaten for sure. His aunt may was spectacular as well, I personally enjoyed her more than rosemary just barely.

A lot of people don’t like how they added his parents in the films but I personally like it and don’t understand why people hate it so much.

Yeah a little underrated
As a huge Marvel and Spiderman fan, I have to say, there were never any horrible Spiderman movies. I grew up with Tobey Maguire (Spiderman 3 was actually the first movie I ever saw in a theater) and to me was an all around perfect trilogy and held true to Spiderman expectations (fun fact, Tobey Maguire was actually originally set to star in 6 Spiderman movies before the reboot to Andrew Garfield). Andrew Garfield is a great actor, and his movies' universe was probably the most top notch Spiderman action we've seen, however for me personally, I felt they gave Peter a little too much confidence (except when he first met Gwen) and that his Spiderman escalated in strength and skill faster than I would have preferred to see, but this saga definitely saw a modern take on Spiderman. And finally, with Tom Holland's, it takes what I see as the best from both. The young/un - experienced take where he can grow and develop his confidence more, and the which is given the best opportunity to do so with his story expanding across the MCU. Looking forward to more reactions!
Peter is not actually supposed to be nerdy or a geek. He's just more of a loner, so he doesn't have a category he fits in. He's extremely intelligent and witty, and when he has the mask on, he does make fun of his enemies just like Andrew does. Peter was also never bad looking. He was handsome and bit antisocial. Andrew is my favorite Spiderman and Peter Parker. I will always stand by my opinion ❤

I think when he saves the boy on the bridge, he truly realizes he's Spider Man. He's meant to help people, not just hunt down the guy who killed Uncle Ben. He also realized Capt. Stacy (though he's an ass) was right about Peter only being after his uncle's killer, that he wasn't helping (at least intending) to help anyone, he was out for revenge. He ran off as soon as he saw each guy wasn't his uncle's killer. And I think it's important they never had him find the killer, because irl, cases go unsolved and it's something Peter has to live with. I liked that change.

This one is more into skate-boarding, and maybe yea, maybe he’s a big nerd, but this movie doesnt really focus on that a lot. They focus a lot more on his skateboarding. @CYB3R2K30 maybe in your school but not in my experience. But still I never really liked that point 'he is too cool' because peter has that nerdy aspect but he is still cool. For example, some my favourite versions of the character are still nerdy but cool like the Spectacular Spider-Man and the Spider-Man PS4. I think they could have gone for a more tidy look for peter tho. Like having his hair a bit more tidy.

Flash actually has a character arc in this movie. He isn’t just the bully that hates Peter like in the raimi movies. He goes from being the bully that picks on Peter to relating to Peter’s pain during his grieving time for uncle Ben, to being a genuine friend to Peter. That’s some character development right there. Also fun fact, the reason Peter made his suit out of rubber in the sequel is because of how he was electrocuted near the end of the first one.
Never seen any of the newer Spider-Man movies after Tobey. Looks like these movies will be on my watch list. Thanks for the reaction, Seb!

I can't say that he's my favorite Spider-Man but goodness gracious do I love him! With Spidey you don't have any pressure of choosing a favorite anyway bc the Spidey-verse was a thing even before the multiverse and that makes me happy. I don't see much hate about any of our three life action versions because they can easily co-exist.

I always felt Toby's, Peter Parker was pretty bland ,where Andrew has this "nerdy but sexy twinkle in his eye, especially with the scenes with Gwen. Both played Spiderman equally well. One thing I can say is of all the actors who played Spidey, Tom Hollands' version fits best with the MCU crowd. Sorry for jumping ahead with my opinions, but wanted to mention it. Yeah, most people didn't connect with this portrayal of Peter, because he just played it too cool for most fans. Peter is just more believable as the humble somewhat nerdy personality that Toby and even Tom brings to the character. In the comics Gwen was as big a love interest as MJ much of the time.
