I'm 62.Ive seen a lot of the greatest players of all time .But there was nothing greater than the Lakers and Celtics.Magic and Bird were unbelievable players. And when they played for the Championship those were some of the greatest games of all time.
The few times when Bird and Magic played on the same team - college all-stars and Olympics - were insane. They played at a whole other level than anyone else.
Good stuff. I was in high school when he was playing against Bird in the finals. I used to get sports illustrated magazine in the mail and read about the battles they had over and over.
I have never seen in any team sport, where you have two players, play against each other on teams with both having arguments of being the greatest all time. It was awesome to watch and sad to see it end.
Great video man! Talk about a brainy player, Magic was one the smartest players of all time. He simply took over games. His greatest gift was his will to win. He used to say, "It's winning time".
I was in high school during what I consider to be the greatest era in American sports. Bird vs Magic Showtime Lakers Bo Jackson Deion Sanders Michael Jordan Joe Montana Jerry Rice Barry Sanders Lawrence Taylor The 1985 Bears Mike Tyson So many great players, personalities, and storylines in that decade. It was a truly great time. As for Magic vs Bird... It's a dead heat, in my book. Magic was certainly the more versatile player, but Bird was (only in my opinion) slightly better at his natural position. Magic was the better passer. Bird was the better defender/rebounder. I loved watching both players. I don't have a favorite. I'm just glad I was there to see it as it was happening. You youngsters who missed the 1980's... I feel genuine pity for y'all. It was a truly cool time.
Yeah, I'm from mass, and watched Larry's Teams. We always feared Magic! Never hated him, just feared him! He was amazing. 1987 was particularly tough. Mchale was injured with feet problems, and Len Bias had died just after being drafted by the celtics the previous year. We always wondered what if Bias hadn't died? They projected him as maybe better than Jordan. I'm Sure they would have won at least a couple more with Larry and Bias, and I think they probably would have wonin 87. But it is what it is. Magic is awesome.
The 80's had Magic, Bird, Isiah, MJ, Dominique, Olajuwon, Barkley, Dr. J and Karl Malone just to name a few players. And all the superstar teams that went with them. No era after that comes even close. The league got watered down. The rules were watered down to promote star players. They ruined what was truly great to make more money.
There is no true GOAT. Too many greats. Different eras. Different criteria. No way to absolutely say who is the GOAT. But if you FORCED me to choose, it is Magic. Acknowledging that there are about 10 other players for whom we can make the case for GOAT.
The magic/bird saved the nba is overblown. Attendance and TV ratings were down for baseball and hockey as well. And the 76, 77, 78, and 79 nba finals were all very exciting. The tape delay thing had more to do with the nba's incompetent commissioner, Larry O'Brian, than the quality of the product...
Hands down, best rivalry in sports. Cool how they became friends over time.

the greats would be good at any era, they are great because of their mentality and mindsets.
"If you're great you're gonna adjust" yeah, that's it. Goats will be goats and would have been goats. It's the attitude, not just the skills.
This is dope brotha have a great day!
You too bro
Both of them will make my team. I'm just a fan who have seen the best play the game of basketball. Individual players.

I think they had the two highest basketball I.Q's ever.

No they aren’t. Magic bested bird in college and the NBA. He beat bird head-to-head. Including college, Magic has six championships to larry’s three.
