- After recovering from a bear and wolf attack, it is time to explore the rest of Broken Railroad. The ravine is especially a lucrative option.

"can i use the workbench from here?" you mean standing on raw wires just before dusk in a zone that loves auroras? yes.
Fuckin died this way last night and was so angry. Tried to walk to the bed in the maintenance shed at sundown and a wire killed me
Hello Zak. You can find the firestriker in the red wheelbarrow that's in the hut with the barrels outside the Hunting Lodge near the rope anchor. I have found it there on 3 different Interloper runs. You missed a bandage at 33:59 in the bedroom! Anyway still enjoy your videos, you were the man that taught me how to play this game! As a result I currently have 2 Interloper runs going, the first one I am at 1089 days still going strong .... needed the excitement of the start up again, so my 2nd run is now at 272 days and counting. I switch between them depending on my mood.
Be warned viewers; if you watch and listen to this man, you too can learn how to survive for a very long time in The Long Dark! LOL. All the best Zak .... from one of your former trainees LOL 😀
it's a little cheaty, but I like to pre-make a bow. They weigh zero kilograms if they're uncompleted, and you can craft them up to the very last moment. When you need them, just complete the craft and they're suddenly 0.5kg.
You wanna see a lil cheaty?
I’ve done that with the bear skin coat. Five minutes left on the craft and zero weight
@@parnassus804 is it wearable?
@@sinchrotron no all craftable stuff is only useable once completed 100%.
I love these episodes, but MAN..... you being sooooo close to death made me super-nervous!
I can't believe he stopped to pick up a feather while at like 5% condition
You should have harvested the pelt from the wolf that almost got you and keep it as a trophy ;)
Haha good idea, if I had thought of it
I've been watching all of these and I love them. So tempted to skip ahead to the newest but I'm learning so much and genuinely enjoying this. Great work sir.
is anyone else obsessed with the music of this game? I need more songs that elicit the feeling that 'prepare' does...
My 7 year old daughter and I love watching your long dark content together ❤️
I really appreciate your channel, keep it up man.
My internet is hit and miss today. Took hours to watch this! LOL But I'm not about to miss it!
Welp, Zak. Road to 500 went from relaxing to severely stressing me out these last 2 episodes. 😅 On the plus side, watching your videos has really taught me a lot about interloper and thanks to you I survived 49 days... but also thanks to you, I have greedy Zak syndrome without the experience to pull it off. 😂 Trying to kill a bear on day 49 sounded like a great idea at the time. Great videos as always. Cheers.
Eating flour would be very homer simpson of you! "Isnt it true that he once consumed an entire bag of flour when no other food was available?" - the lawyer
Thanks for another video, Zaknafein.
I can't wait to see how you play in Forsaken Airfield. I personally find it one of my least favourite regions to stay in long term. I consider it an exceptionally difficult place to hunt or navigate during low visibility and the region's weather is prone to fog up often. A bad combination. Only place I've really enjoyed staying/found tolerable is in the cabin on Drift Island.
Thank you - I look forward to FA too. I think its a fun region :)
Hey Zak, i see you're on your way to FA... FYI, you can goat over the blocked rail path by the train car on the bridge, it takes a bit of technical goating, requiring a jump across to a rock to make it up, but its doable... i use it all the time to avoid going down the long stairs and up the cave... after looting the map, its a real time saver.. using this shortcut along with the shortcut at the entrance to the FA regional map, one can make it from camp office in ML, to the Hangar in the airfied in one sleep... assuming the weather cooperates... keep an eye out for the sport bow.. its pretty good... cheers
Thank you. I tried the shortcut but have to return another time to practice. The sports bow doesnt spawn on interloper, I dont think.
The bedroll balancing on the fence made me chuckle.
I believe bait is made by harvesting an uncooked fish
I actually love Broken Railroad. I'm on about day 200 in my current run and I've done all of the main areas and the new DLC so I think I'll go do some of the minor areas and eventually settle there, I love the vibe of the lodge on the hill.
34:04 bandage on top of the cabinet, I think?
31:50 PO-TA-TOS you know: boil em, mash em, put em in a stew!
I recently discovered that hunting lodge, also has ptarmigan just to the other side of the vehicles.
1:26:00 "I stay warm where I can..." I'd like to see this ;-)
We wants mooooooooooore 🥳🥳🥳
Happy for this new episode, just kidding take your time and thank you for this video ☺️
Your health bar stresses me out
The health bar is a resource, if you are not using it you are not quite as efficient as possible. Zak is all about efficiency, sometimes when he doesn't have to be. That said I have hit red on the health bar a few times on my +400 day Interloper run. Red gets a bit scary and usually causes some unplanned matches usage.
wonder if he treats his health irl the same
@@Jack_Pliskin I can imagine Zak irl saying "Now I could eat today, but I know that tomorrow there will be a catered luncheon at work. So I'll have a tea before bed and not worry about keeping well-fed."
YAAAAHOOOO new episode cant wait to finish I was waiting for it 😊
I wantet to put two likes but youtube didnt allow. You are great , man.
1:16:35 finding back to the base in the night, in the blizzard, on the ice… really… I have died in this situation
22 mins in and Zak wonders why he is soo danged heavy, and i'm like jeez man do ya really need 24 charcoal..................
Rare occurrence of Zak swearing at 58:25
Just caught that! I had to do a double take to make sure I heard him right.
@@brightargyle8950 I did too haha!
Re lockboxes on Interloper, I read that not all keys are available on Interloper, but you always see the boxes, which is kinda annoying. Hinterland should patch that so the keys spawn but the boxes have Interloper-loot, or just take the boxes away.
I'd double check the cars in the workshop parking lot? I found a momento in the driver side visor of one of those in Voyager
Came here to say this. Exactly where I found it.
Also, on the near needing to be uncooked going into pies: I find it strange TLD doesn’t make you cook the meat first to a) ensure everything is cooked through b) to help ensure that the pies do not have a soggy bottom 😂
Pretty sure the key spawn is still a little bugged. I’m in bleak inlet right now on a 252day interloper run (learned to play loper from you) and there is a lockbox but no key
the latest patch may have fixed this -- haven't been able to check myself yet though. the patch lists "fixed missing mementos" and says you need to leave/re-enter the region to reset it.
@@xylok_dnb2444 yeah I saw that and tried, didn’t fing the key although I found a memento note leading to the lighthouse. Maybe the lockbox is the bug and isn’t suppose to be there on interloper
@@rustyaxe155 possibly, but i have the same problem with the lockbox in Broken Railroad and the note for the stims in the church piano in Pleasant Valley on a voyager run, so it may not be related to interloper
@@xylok_dnb2444 yeah I’d say wait. Hinterland usually fixes these things just takes time
@@rustyaxe155 update -- i just got back to PV and checked for the memento note for the piano. even though the visors were already down in the car, the note spawned in cleanly and i got the stims! i haven't check BR yet to see if the key by the maintenance yard has spawned in, but i have faith :)
Zak is the six burner stove better than cooking outside? Great episode as always. Im exited to see what kind of loot you will got on loper with the radio.
Yes you get three times as much cooking done
lol, campfire hax :P
It looks like this was recorded while there was still a bug in effect that removed all bonus calories from the cooking skill. That would be why each kilo of bear only gave 900 calories and it seemed like you were chewing through it super quick.
You can find third stim from BR, it is in the workshop, behind the broken car when you walk up to platform with 3 green wooden boxes, break them down and under the last one I have twice found a stim and a wheatstone on interloper.
This was checked in the previous episode :)
@@Zaknafein Haha whoops missed that :D
the firestrikker can be ind the wheelbarrow ad the lodge
Hi Zak :) you need fish for bait, so a whole raw fish can be harvested for bait
If you are not dead you are doing it right. I heard a wide man once say. 😂
6 burner stoves are my ideal wife.
Finally thank you zak❤
17:37 you got stim on the ground
😢Walking past cattails makes me sad😢
Took that bunny down execution style.
It seems I'm blind but I didn't see any moose markings in this forest.
This is your regular reminder that the video isn't on the playlist!
Thank you for that. TH-cam is a bit awkward in that putting it on the playlist while previewing it to patreons makes it visible to everyone. So I often forget.
Like 58:00 an unusual hard swear from Zak lol :) unexpected and funny.
Absolutely love love love love the content. Every video u have makes my day a bit better and i thank you for that
I had to rewatch it just to make sure I had heard correctly lol
RE: Acorns> I suspect the best use/bang for your buck is to use them in the pancakes
The cat tails in your game look different than mine...Is that a difference between PC & Consoles?
Probably graphics, yes
My first impressions watching all the cooking for the first time: it looks fun but fiddly. It seems fun and interesting to have a lot more creative options for recipes now, but they don't seem to mesh well with the Interloper necessity to be nomadic and travel light. I think when I play the DLC, I'd rather collect ingredients into a main base stash and then cook all the things when I'm stationary there for a few days in a row. Otherwise, lugging salt and oil and various versions of acorns, burdock, carrots etc. everywhere across the map all the time seems inefficient, fussy, and time-consuming. For instance, to me a peach pie seems like something better enjoyed cosily by Pleasant Valley Farmhouse hearth as an indulgent memory of times gone by, not in a cave in the middle of nowhere where you have to have dragged a can of peaches, a can opener, flour, oil, and a particular cooking instrument in order to make it... or perhaps that is exactly what makes a peach pie very special? Depends on the player perhaps. But to me the magic of the Long Dark is always about that tension between the danger of going out into the remote wilderness and the comfort of returning to the safety of home base, and never the 'twain shall meet. Whereas if I'm carrying lots of 'civilised' ingredients all the time without purpose, it kind of disrupts that tension and immersion for me, in a way that something simpler like granola bars, a food that's also man-made but more explicitly suited for nomadic use, does not.
The exception so far, I would say, are some acorn recipes - the coffee and bannocks. Those are a bit lighter, more forage-based, and less demanding than most of the pies (and more importantly non-stinky!).
Also perhaps this is only as a viewer... it's not that enjoyable to watch inventory management around broth and potatoes for a recipe that may or may not happen until 2 regions later, but maybe that feels different while playing.
Anyways - none of this is meant as a criticism; just my first thoughts on the cooking update. I will admit that being able to make acorn maple pancakes in the Long Dark does have maximum cosiness feels... 😊
Is there a story reason why in 500 days the spring thaw never comes?
A geomagnetic apocalypse
the "breyerhouse pie" with more then 10k cal per kg, must be good to save weight. why walk with 3kg meat when you can carry 0,2kg pie
For the algorithm ❤
yeah, that pie is pretty bad ass...like...that over 2k calories, but it's weight is .20kg! that's pretty amazing! though...I'm guessing the oil and flour are gonna be the real bottlenecks, eh?
Does the acorn coffee even work? I get the "reduced fatigue" prompt, but the fatigue wheel doesn't change color, and the prompt in the character menu doesn't show up like regular coffee?
It does not reduce fatigue, I think. But it restores a small amount. Still a little bit buggy
@@Zaknafein Thanks for letting me know. I really appreciate it!!
Just wanted to by the 100th person to comment.
Hey Zak, I have a question. I have looted the entire western side of great bear and am yet to find a hacksaw. Is there any loot bug that pertains to the hacksaw?
Not that I am aware of. What difficulty are you on?
I’m on voyager
@@jericho5655 then they are all over. Make sure you check all tool boxes, lockers, behind furniture, under furniture etc. They are often well hidden.
@@Zaknafein thank you
Zak do you think trappers cabin is the best base
Yes its the best imo
Well that is where I will make my base
Zak, you might not want to leave that meat outside. Just saying, but won't say no more. 😂
i love you zak, not in a gay way. you helped me a lot. thanks.
I know it's just a game but I hate how the character moans about the weight of the backpack. If it was real life and you were in that situation you'd rather lug a heavy backpack than be dead.
You try wading through the snow with a 50 kg backpack
