Dog Owners vs Cat Owners at a Vet Hospital

  • While this video is all in good fun, there are certainly common differences between dog and cat owners. And yes, it is certainly possible to be both! I know for a fact, because I am absolutely both. I’ll also say that most pet owners truly do go above and beyond for their pets, and maaaaaaaybe treat their pets better than most veterinarians do! ;-)

He will be worried on the way to the vet and initially try to escape the room if a door is open, but once the vet techs comes in, he let's them lift him up and pet him as much as they like, give him all this shots, take his temperature from his butt etc with 0 problems, not a cry, nor a scratch, not a flinch. 😂😂😂😂 Then when I have to continue caring for him at home, he's back to hiding from me. I always ask him why he doesnt wish to be cooperative when I'm trying to help just like the vets. Sigh I've come to the conlcusion he knows I'm not a pro vet so he doesnt accpet help from me.

As a cat owner can agree on the breed answer lol. But as for the rest, I specifically adopt cats who have been stuck at the shelter the longest. After caring for a 16 year old black love bug until he passed at 19 years old ( got sick and just... didn't recover. It was his time. ) I spent 3 years learning how to care for his diabetes, carefully managing his diet and ensuring at least 30 min of moderate activity a day, and giving him insulin twice a day.
After that our next kitty was FIV positive, and you bet your ass my vet hears about every time she sneezes weird. Her brother, adopted a year later, is also FIV positive ( sought out specifically ). They do not go outside, period, so every home improvment in the last 2 years has been with the cats in mind to further enrich their world.
I hope to keep them happy and healthy for a long time 😊

I have two cats and a dog. Cat 1: Pure bred Bengal lunatic. She talks constantly, will only eat Purina One dry cat food, spiders and mice. She is a high turbo maniac, or unconscious curled up fluff ball. She can hear my eyelids open in the morning and commences with yeowling until I get up and play. She will only poop in the litter box if it's filled with Walmart Special Kitty clumping cat litter; otherwise she poops NEXT to the litter box. Cat 2: Half Maine Coon, half rag doll. The heaviest fluff ball imaginable. Loves you like you're the sun and the moon, until he doesn't, and then he swats at your head through the stair rails and makes your forehead bleed. You NEVER see it coming. Sleeps 23 hours a day, eats anything that doesn't eat him first. Likes to drape his 25 lb tank shaped body across my neck when I'm trying to sleep; purrs like an outboard motor as I struggle to breathe. The dog: Rescued bag of random dog parts. Made of velcro and is attached to my leg if I am standing, attached to my lap if I am sitting. Eats anything that falls off the counter or the table, dead things in the yard, or his own poop. However, his meals must be a perfect slurry of kibble, wet dog food and warm water; brand doesn't matter, it's all about the texture. I am convinced that I have a mental disorder that makes me a slave to animals.

The same with our cat. He is an adult British shorthair (kinda, obviously we have no proofs), he wasn't adapted to the streets and seemingly was there only a couple of days. It looked like he ran away from home. My family caught him and started to look for an owner. We found a couple of possible owners, talked to them, but nobody even wanted to look at the cat. Later we found out that he has a strong fear of plastic bags, so possibly he was abused and knocked out of home

For 15 years it was impossible to touch that cat, even while he was sleeping, without him getting up and getting in my face, repeatedly headbutting my chin or flopping his body into my chest. _Sob_ my cats are the SAME. They will be all over the dry food I bought one pack of. Thought they liked it, I bought four packs next, THEY REFUSED to finish them. So I bought a different flavor, they were all over it, until they were not. Figured I need to be smart and change things up once in a while, decided to buy another brand, they didn't like it. That's fine, I expected it, so I made that brand to be for my street feeding time. a few weeks later, I tried to give them another taste of that brand since they were yowling (they already ate, probably wanted food again), they ATE THAT THING UP!
But honestly, I'll take those minor conveniences now. Two of my three cats went out and never returned and I missed having those conveniences.

I happen to notice the younger poking his head into this space between the stove and wall. Thinking a ball rolled into the space, I check it out. I didn't see a ball, but I did find a pile of his pills! The little stinker was somehow saving them in his mouth and then spitting them all out in his "secret corner!" He was one smart dog!

Cats switching foods every week was a new one for me. Mine was happy with most foods that I served with one rule: she'd only eat foods that came from plastic or cardboard based packages, never from metal tins. Our boy is a big black fluffy boy. He's NOT Maine Coon but I strongly suspect he's Siberian. He's a rescue and neutered, of course, so I don't see the point in getting genetic testing done on him. (Can't make money on stud services if he's a eunuch!) We specifically wanted an all black cat. (Black cats are often last to be adopted, plus I despise white cat hair getting on everything!) I didn't plan on a long-haired black beastie but he very obviously chose us from the moment we met him at the rescue. I have also never had an ADULT cat with such incredibly soft fur! I've only met kittens with fur as soft as his. He's at least 5 years old now, so he's definitely an adult cat. He has the most gorgeous face, glorious fluffy tail, and fluffy bloomers on his back legs. Even my mom, who is a confirmed dog person, recognized that he's a gorgeous cat. He's quite well-behaved, too. He doesn't do a lot of the notorious cat behaviors that often drive their humans crazy. If you have the ability, please go adopt another all-black cat. The diet for Henry is totally my daughter with her Golden Retriever. When she still lived with me, I'd watch her make dinner for Loaf (I know, lol), and she'd be sautéing vegetables on the stove. I felt so sorry for her because she knew what she was missing because they fed her canned food before my daughter researched the ingredients of store bought dog food (even the pure gourmet types), and found them not good enough for Loaf. I used to sneak her chicken and treats when my daughter was at work. Now my daughter lives in a studio apartment with her boyfriend. Poor Loaf. She was used to frolicking with the boyfriend's Grandma's dog when they lived there - big yard , pasture land, and the kids had the whole 5th floor of thr renovated attic to themselves. My neighbor even noticed when Loaf visited me. The neighbor remarked that Loaf just didn't seem like the same dog. She said Loaf looked deflated, like all the life was gone from her. Loaf never had to be alone before when the kids were at work and in quite a small apartment. I remarked on that to my daughter when they first moved there, but she was unconcerned. The apartment is in the heart of a small city, so no trees, no grass to walk on, and not really any room to chase a ball or go without a leash.🐕‍🦺😟.

Grocery store cashier here. This fits. Dog owners are often snotty about keeping up with the joneses about breed. They proudly tell you how much they paid for their dog (often thousands of dollars). Their dogs are often more of a beloved status item then a beloved pet. They spend shitloads on dog food specialties like $40 bags of duck jerky for their dog or ultra expensive bakery made cookies for their dogs. Or those frozen ice cream treats just for dogs. Even poor senior folks spend all their money on crazy items for their dogs and then get themselves ramen noodles. I'm not saying this is true for all dog owners, there are some folks who truly have a wonderful dog buddy they love and care for without being hung up on the status or high maintenance trip. What I'm saying is most dog owners who go through my line are that way as portrayed in the video.
Cat owners are laid back, and more practical in their spending practices and purchases. The only thing I hear different is the food situation....cat owners often have picky eaters. And cat owners not only adopt, but are proud to say they have rescues. They are good souls who often buy cat food to feed cats other than their own, such as feral cats in their neighborhood or to donate to the humane society. In 23 years of doing this work Ive never had a dog owner buy dog food for dogs other than their own or to donate.

He ate his reg bag dog food and random wet food I would get periodically but, once a week when I cleaned out the frig he got all the leftovers as well, just like Clarissa. I was blessed he lived so long as his breed normally didn’t get far past 10. But he was a beast until the last year he wasn’t as big and was graying…then out of no where the last month and a half his weight up and rapidly fell no matter how much he ate it didn’t matter and before we could even realize he passed. The first hunger strike my current furbaby ever did... I broke at the 3rd day, which was actually only 2½ days of refusing to eat the vet recommended Science Hill food 🙄😮‍💨😑
She turns 17 in 10days & I've only won once of all the hunger strikes she's gone on in that time. Mostly because that was one of the times she was just being a brat, and being half Siamese 😩 She's got a lot of personality and a strong one at that. She's sweet & an amazing companion... but I now understand why all the guides & books I read said Siamese is not a "first time owner" breed, it's for not just experienced cat owners but those who know and are will to accept all that comes with them 😅

As someone who lives in Idaho, I object. Our potatoes can outcompete Russia any day.
As someone who has only had rescue dogs, I roll my eyes at the pedigree dog owner. “Your dog only has one breed? Check out my dog who has mastered the idiosyncrasies of 20 breeds!”

You mean your potatoes that are so bioengineered that they're a few years away from growing legs and farming themselves? The ones that taste like cardboard?

    • @thunderatigervideo
      @thunderatigervideo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +35

@@yaelz6043 The bioengineered varieties are called white russets. I’ve never had any personally, so I can’t speak to their taste. The Russet Burbank, Pontiac, Ida Rose, Yukon Gold, Cal Red, Ruby Crescent, Russian Banana, Fingerling, Teton Russet, Purple Peruvian, Huckleberry Gold, Bintje, and multiple other varieties come from seed potatoes that have been selectively bred rather than bioengineered. If any of those taste like cardboard, it’s probably because you’re eating a processed, dehydrated version that comes from a box.
Additionally, I’m not sure how bioengineering is going to affect the taste. The white russet was engineered to be tolerant to bruising and black spots as well as use less land and water over all. It means you have to boil, fry, or cook it a little longer, but the taste should be unaffected. I’d increase your prep time by about 5-10 minutes if you get a white russet.

@@thunderatigervideo you can give as many marketing spiels as you want. A real potato should smell and taste like potato.
The real thing also can't survive being planted near the bio engineered ones on account of the biological/evolutionary arms race that leads to superior bugs and diseases. That's why you always hate on countries that don't allow GMOs. They don't give over a monopoly to Monsanto/Bayer.

I'd only known my cat (a feral kitten when taken to her 1st of 2 houses before me) for 3 months and 1 week (Making it 1.5 months from when she started approaching me since I let her get comfortable without pressure, and slowly moved her food and water from her "safe space" in the side room into my bedroom about 1-2 feet at a time so she'd be exposed to me more often.) when I took her to get fixed and her shots. Because her "safe space" included access to the crawl space (It physically can't be blocked off, I've tried, and I'm in a basement suite.) I asked if they could keep her overnight at the vets, so her wounds wouldn't get dirty or infected and we were travelling 4 hours to my family that very next morning (so there was no way she'd come to me before the departure). The next morning when I arrived to pick her up the vet team asked me to go into the back room because she'd slipped out of her cell and none of them could get close to her. To my amazement, as soon as she saw me she calmed down and let me scoop her up, where she clung to me until I got her settled in her carrier. The staff just awed at how sweet she was to me. It blew my mind how much trust she had in me that I didn't realize was there because of never pressuring her for affection or even attention. 🥰She's now 5, we've been human and cat for 4.5 years, and she's the biggest freaking snuggle butt who gets wet food and tuna (mainly for the can water) 6 or 7 times a month as a treat, daily crunchy treats (she's highly treat motivated) that 1 variety of is just hair ball reducer cat food given in 10-15 piece piles and another is toothbrush treats, lots of fresh air (she does happy dances when I join her for a walk), and at least 15 minutes a day of play time. 😘 The only thing I don't know is her breed. I know that she may be a reincarnation of my aunts cat who passed a decade ago, but other than that one being a calico I don't know what her breed was, either! Their faces and personalities are almost identical, but mine's a tuxedo.

This feels painfully accurate. I have a dog who absolutely hates the vet and has to be sedated for anything. My family knows this about her and has no issues with it but the vet was really shocked at how readily we agreed to have her sedated so they could do what they needed to do.

Oi. People, please respect your vet. If you don't, find a different vet.
    Dog owner here:
Me: Breed? Pure breed mutt. (Actually they tell me. Terrier mix. Yeah, close enough.)
Me: Food? Cat poop if he can get it, but the same kibble he's gotten for 10 years that he still will do spins for when it's meal time.
Me: Please use a muzzle for your safety. He's reactive to being held. (Yeah, I know it's because I'm a horrible dog companion.)
Me: Let's make an appointment where he can be anesthetized and do everything that needs doing: exam, nail trim, butt squeeze, shots (if any). If he needs teeth cleaned, do that, too.
Also cat owner...no instructions. She's good about being handled.
