This franchise holds a special place in my heart. I first discovered them with my father on PS1 and have played almost every AC title since then. Even still have my copy of AC1 for PS1.
For all the folks speculating, the author of the script has stated that they were largely prevented from tying the story into any specific narrative points in AC6. To prevent spoilers, apparently.

Assuming the Release ending was the canon one, there's like a billion things that could've happened, but since his voice tells him people consider her "obsolete augmentation surgery", this means that John Rubicon is a Gen 4, which means he's like 621 and Iguazu, most likely making this a prequel to AC6, or meaning that another ending was canon. (probably liberator because everyone would be dead in fires of raven lol)
Not super happy about this. It's adding some lore that addresses some of the cultural ambiguity of the franchise. You get this issue when American movie makers try to make a movie based off of another country's franchise. The AC isn't intended to be just a robot or a vehicle, it's intended to be a character. AC has a habit of not showing pilots because the idea is to keep the player associating names to the AC and not names to faces. While AC is probably a better target for movie than say Gundam, it's really weird to have an AC title that focuses on the pilot. It's very humanizing in a franchise that consistently has you murder innocent workers on strike, or millions of civilians just trying to escape the toxic landscape.
I mean... AC has tried this before. Tower City Blade AC manga and the Brave New World novel. Honestly not against the humanization of characters, one of my favorite moments from AC6 was the fight against Michigan. Guy had a personality! Edit: TcB is not worth reading, BnW is meh. It's been tried but don't mistake this for me thinking they're good lol. Hopefully this turns out better.
