Thanks for the video. Calving in this weather is not good considering they are born with their summer coat. Farming ain't easy nor perfect. We are fortunate to be on a milk share, but I know it could easily go away due to unforeseen circumstances. For instance, this time last year the health department made a visit to the farmer and notified that an outbreak of salmonella had been reported and his milk was suspect. They demanded his customer list so the customers could be notified. We received the notification in the mail. After two or 3 months, they came back and said it was not his milk and there was nothing to be worried about with this farmer; they even said he had an extremely clean operation. I knew from the get-go the issue was not due to his milk, but I was not expecting any credit on his operation. Especially considering this was just after the first Amos Miller raid. The farmers are Mennonites. I wished you lived closer to us. Truth 2024 sounds amazing and I love what you said about food (i.e., if you don't think it is important, just try doing without it for a short time).😆

A herd share or semantics as you call them seem to be much better than selling raw milk legally. Iowa made raw milk sales legal this year. We had outstanding sales couldn’t keep up with just our 2 jerseys. Then more people jumped in and had milk price down to $5 a gallon delivered to a destination in town. Our sales slowed we went down to $12 a gallon and people were questioning if we were too high. I don’t like to work for less than minimum wage so I went back to making butter and cheese for ourselves and feed leftovers to the pigs. Much less hassle.

My theory is that if raw milk becomes legal everywhere then the large dairy companies will remove that expensive and time-consuming unnecessary process but not change anything else, like delivery times, and we'll see a sudden huge outbreak of disease that can be traced back to it.
Whereas the "Fresh from a cow's udder to your mouth" small-scale production from a local farmer that you trust reduces or removes a lot of the risk.
