What state are you at? Out here in California we use Steele for interior and exterior broom exposed aggregate for final finish. We also don’t use buggies when pouring concrete we use concrete pumps . Not saying our ways better just find it interesting that depending where you live every job is done differently, we also set forms with nails , we rarely use screws

Hey I'm in the great white north 🇨🇦 Toronto area. Get very cold in the winter here. I like building with screws it holds the forms together real tight. Great comment 👍

I'm in Michigan next to my Canadian neighbors and we use skid steers and buggies instead of pumps and we use steel edgers for the exteriors

I'm in Wisconsin and I'm pouring my 1st slab on Saturday. I'm a bit confused about using a steel float. I thought you wanted to use that after the magnesium float. I know people here use them, but if it's going to cause my slab to Crack or flake apart I'll stay away! So should I use one or not?! Thanks
Oh, we use pump trucks, regular cement trucks, skiddy's, buggies and wheelbarrows! Hard work never killed anyone!

You can any of the two as long you run the brim on exterior letting the concrete breathe.

My Dad did concrete work for 50 years and always used a steel trowel to finish concrete.

In my mind as soon as you broom a steel finish it opens it up again, never steel over exposed, just place it well

BRoO... who the he!! Told you ' Dont use steel trowels on exterior slabs ,because it ' seals ' the surface?!'.. That is the whole objective , is to get exterior slabs sealed up tight.. ALL exterior mixes...well except PERVIOUS of course.. But come on bro... If steel is not good for exterior slabs.. Then why does My power trowel, and Every other power trowel manufactured ,come fitted stock with STEEL blades?! 🤔 . The whole point of getting slabs sealed up' burned in' is to keep out moisture so the concrete keeps its integrity . I live in Seattle, and we add liquid CO2 in our mix, to help with cracking when its goes through all the different phases during its curing process. Don't get me wrong ,we use all the typical mag tools as well.. just wanted to let the folks know ,it's ok to use steel on exterior flat work.. but Nice work explaining the tools of the trade.. Take care man.

So exterior concrete is different from interior concrete. Notice he said freeze thaw slabs. These slabs have air in them. Around 3-9% total. When you seal concrete with steal before it's done you block the water and air from escaping. When you use steal, especially before bleeding is done this traps water below the surface leading to delamination. In very rare cases, on an external slab after the slab is almost ready to broom, you can run big blue or a Fresno over it. But that should really be avoided.

I seen people use the magnesium bull float to level out tge concrete after screeding.then the trowel and then finish with a broom finish on exterior concrete.. but ive learned in construction every one has theyre own like and ways of doing things....just like tools..some plumbers like to use a specific product..

Would you use a vibrator on an exterior application? Seems that would take air bubbles out.
Also when mixing Sakrete from Lowe's does that have air bubbles or are the air bubbles mainly from a concrete truck?

      @@cristianlara5682 That I do.
I'm saying he is mentioning about exterior concrete intentionally having air bubbles so it can freeze and thaw. I've never heard until this video that there was interior and exterior concrete.

There is different types of concrete mixes depending on the job. Some jobs require different psi of air and also how many bags of cement you use for each different type of concrete mix. Ask your local concrete mix company which kind you need for your job

Never knew that about not using steel outdoors. Makes sense.
So could you go straight from bull floating to brooming?

A lot of people double bull float then broom but you can trowel or Fresno the surface broom opens it back up
