I’ve spent 21 years in the UK and 37 years in the US. There is no utopia. I find that people generally want the opposite of what they have thinking the grass is greener.
From South Africa i am serious about moving to the UK. The first reason is because of the weather, Australia and South Africa are so hot. Also it would be safe, or more safe enjoying nature and going for walks than here. I love the UK weather.
"We have a bit of summer here as well" that pretty much sums it up! a very little bit. a few weeks of autumn then 7 or 8 months of cold, wet, windy, plus snow (if you live oop norph), then a bit more of the same but a bit warmer which we call spring. :) mind you if you are an Aussie and in the pub getting hammered every day it all blends into one. :)
Spring is definitely my favourite season. I love all the wild flowers, the weather's not too hot and the greenery is fresh. As the song says: "mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun", so maybe we'd even go walking in the baking Perth sun lol
hahaha yup the English would still definitely go out for a walk in 40 degree heat in Perth! I'm sure my boyfriend would still drag me out in the heat if I ever lived back there. haha
Think we appreciate the sun a bit more because we get little. Isnt it good coming out of a wet winter to enjoy the smells of the blooms, Edge rows, Grass and all the aroames that spring brings. My best time.
I'm curious as to what sort of seasonal imagery are on Christmas cards when Aussies send them to one another. Sunbathers on the beach perhaps? People having a barbie?
As an Englishman I can't stand the cold I get the winter blues but its interesting hearing your thoughts on your experience especially as a native from Perth I'm from Liverpool and I was actually looking at moving to Perth or Brisbane before the world closed up, I need that sunshine year round and warm/hot weather, the cold just makes me miserable, so I'm fascinated to know your enjoying your time here haha
I worked with a girl from Thredbo. Outside Australia she always had to explain it was a ski resort in the mountains and her childhood winters ( July August ) had snow.
Your comments very much sum up my reasons for moving to the U.K. I guess my to priority was living near or in the centre of the World (London) and being able to access Europe in a couple of hours. I prefer living in the S.E. (despite the bad traffic) not just for London but because overall it gets more sun than most other areas of the U.K., generally the Summers here are very good from June to September.
Yes exactly. I love being able to pop over to Europe for £50 or less! something you just can't do in Australia! Living down south must be a happy medium haha, nice beaches as well for that warmer weather!

As a Brit living in Perth, no such thing as just down the road, down south to Margaret River is weekend trip to make it worth it, one thing you can't explain how big / massive it is and that's just WA , isolated is a understatement especially now with Covid, glad an Aussie mentioned the American thing, this comment gets me the raised eyebrows. Perth is spread out, although in the hills it's lovely
Autumn colours are stunning in England, although i prefer Spring and I'm not keen on our winters would much prefer to be somewhere warm in winter 🏴🌹the recession has really hit our high streets badly with a lot of the big name stores closing in the smaller towns which is a real shame.
I'm British and live in the UK. I love it here and would never leave but I LOVE Australia! If I had the money I would buy a home over there and visit every year. Can't wait to visit Brisbane again.
Nice to see someone who's an adoptive Mancunian doing a video, and not just the usual London content. I remember when the Metrolink was first introduced; Manchester was the first UK city to revive the concept of large scale tram use, and itvwas successfully copied in other cities later. I work in marketing in Perth and the community is quite small. Great to hear there are a lot of jobs in this area in the uk. I'm not sure what's stopping me.
Do you notice a huge difference between the people from both countries? I'm from Yorkshire, I can remember my mother's cousin talking about living in Australia when he would come back to the UK at Christmas time. More recently, my cousin married an Aussie and moved over there (about a decade ago). Both of them mentioned the climate and the dangerous wildlife but never the people. I'm asking because prior to this video, I've been clicking on uploads about North Americans and their experiences here in the UK. Seems like there's a huge cultural difference for them.

Your one of several Aussies to refer to the seasons being notably different rather than a slight change in temperature. It sort of puts the, 'whinging poms', into perspective with them all complaining about the heat but couldn't return to the U.K. for four years, otherwise they'd have to pay for there passage back to the U.K. Like you said, Europe is just a short flight or train ride away, the eastern most part of Europe is only 3-4 hours flight away and the prices are cheap for flights if your prepared to do Easyjet or Ryanair. The U.K. is a great jumping off point because it's foreign and different from home, but you have a shared language in the most part so it's easier to settle in, learn the differences and get used to local customs and where different parts of the English language differ (eg thongs) to live but all of Europe is a short hop away for holidays, excursions or even a day trip. I'm glad your enjoying it here, were not the best country out there but damn, we're pretty good and we're not the easiest people to get to know, but once we let you in, your one of us.
I'am from Ashton -Under -Lyne Lancashire , and welcome you to the UK, it's very nice to have you here, i'am so glad that you are happy here and enjoy the UK, as you say its very nice to observe the seasons, i hope you live long and prosper, Kind regards.....:}
To stop myself going insane from covid19 mania I've been walking Nottinghamshire vilages in circular rambles. There's so much to discover. History in the form of visual evidence going as far back as the Roman's, Norman's and anglo saxons. My goal is to visit every village and hamlet before the end of March. So, yes you're right. Theres so much to discover within a short drive. Have fun.
Hiya Lauren, As a fellow Aussie am looking to move to UK as well perhaps within the next year or two .. would you say it's still worth it moving to UK with the war and price hikes in energy ? Not sure what you do as a profession but would you say the opportunities are still in abundance and the salaries as compared to what we get here at home ? Any advice will be muchly appreciated 🙏 Cheers
I feel like I have lost my Australian accent a little bit. I don't think I've picked up much of a British accent but my Aussie accent isn't as strong any more haha! The thing is; If I slurred my words like my Aussie accent wants to naturally want to do, no one would understand me!! hahah so I try to pronounce certain words a bit clearer 😂
Great insights - glad you like it in Manchester - a good place I think - especially for younger people who want to feel connected and have decent job prospects - I was brought up here and sometimes the good things become invisible!
I would like to know your opinion. I and my wife decided to move to UK from New Zealand. Do you think it would be worth it after COVID-19 pandemic? I am 43, she is 39 and we also have a 12 year old son.
It depends on what you mean by 'worth it'? and depends on why you want to move to the UK? We are only slowly coming out of lockdown at the moment. I don't think its very exciting to live anywhere at the moment due to corona and lockdowns haha
Your every videos are superb and very informative. But please let me know that,, why did u chose england over wellington(newzealand), vancouver (canada), dublin( ireland )or even a better option itself in australia like melbourne city which all places are competitive to england for its natural beauty, life style, job opportunity, health care. Anyhow as an Indian who worked more than 12 years in middle east and if get a chance to migrate from India,,, the above mentioned cities or country side will be my choice including your favorite beautiful Manchester . If you can please do a comparison. Waiting for your reply.
Thanks! I chose England because I wanted to live in London to start off with and I have never been to New Zealand, Canada or Ireland. Also, I could get a 5 year visa for the UK and my auntie lives in England too. So England was a good option for me! I didn't want to move to Melbourne because It's still Australia and I wanted something a bit different haha.
I've grown up in Louisiana, US but I have ancestry of purely European and English. I hate living in America and I would love to move to Manchester but I'm only twelve. I've grown to dislike how the US government fights over stupid things and makes ridiculous laws. When I turn 18, my family said it'd be okay for me to go there if I have a stable life at that point. The point is, is the governing system fair? Does it bother you that your money goes straight to the Queen? My 19 yr old sister tells me all the time that I should embrace living in America but I feel like I don't belong here.
I've only used it for the doctor and the dentist, so I don't have a lot of experience with it. It's good that appointments at the doctors have been free and also good for the dentist has certain tiers, so you know how much things will cost. In Australia the dentist can be expensive even with private health cover. But I guess with the UK its still paid for with our taxes. For me it has been good because Its one less thing I have to worry about paying for.
I wouldn't be the best person to ask as I live in Manchester (which is cheaper to live in then London) and I had family members I could live with for free/cheap price when I first moved over. It can depend on a lot of factors. But the UK government actually requires you to prove you have roughly £2000k in savings in order to apply for the 2 year working holiday visa, so I would say about that amount if you don't have family to stay with. I have a video on how to apply for the UK Ancestry video as well, if you are looking to get a UK visa - th-cam.com/video/3vuiDYS2d0A/w-d-xo.html
Out of date it’s funny how everyone says this for my videos but no one in my personal life thinks I sound Manc! And I recently started a new job so the people I work with aren’t used to my accent and I even asked them and they said no they can’t hear it 😂. Hahaha weird!
Another Prestonian here. Your accent is definitely mixed! Maybe not so much Mancunian but your Aussie accent is definitely diluted with a bit of British in there!
Most people who live in Manchester always complain about the Metrolink - I personally think it’s brilliant....I’m sure other uk cities would love to have something like it.

hahah I'm glad you can see where I am coming from! Every country has its beautiful and ugly parts doesn't it haha
@@Wanderlauren yes your 100% right like some people have a positive aura like you and some have gone over to the dark side lol Love and Peace.
One of us, one of us!
Why is it always overcast and rainy in your country , is the suicide rate high ?
I'am from Ashton -Under -Lyne Lancashire , and welcome you to the UK, it's very nice to have you here, i'am so glad that you are happy here and enjoy the UK, as you say its very nice to observe the seasons, i hope you live long and prosper, Kind regards.....:}
Thank you! same to you!
Yes, it's very festive in English towns at Christmas. Thanks Germany!
It really is!
Have fun.
sounds lovely! yes definitely true! so much history and culture to experience :)
Aussies (particularly Shelias) are always welcome in England, the more the merrier in my book 👍
Hiya Lauren,
As a fellow Aussie am looking to move to UK as well perhaps within the next year or two .. would you say it's still worth it moving to UK with the war and price hikes in energy ? Not sure what you do as a profession but would you say the opportunities are still in abundance and the salaries as compared to what we get here at home ?
Any advice will be muchly appreciated 🙏
Cheers
I want to visit England but i think it will just be a dream
@יואב דניאל no funds to travel
Where in Manchester are you? I was born in Droylsden.
When you move, does your accent adapt or stay fully Australian? I notice that your voice is a BIT more British than the usual Australian :)!
I feel like I have lost my Australian accent a little bit. I don't think I've picked up much of a British accent but my Aussie accent isn't as strong any more haha! The thing is; If I slurred my words like my Aussie accent wants to naturally want to do, no one would understand me!! hahah so I try to pronounce certain words a bit clearer 😂
wanderlauren wow! it’s so cool how it can change. Also thanks for replying UwU
My favourite England ❤️
Great insights - glad you like it in Manchester - a good place I think - especially for younger people who want to feel connected and have decent job prospects - I was brought up here and sometimes the good things become invisible!
hahahaha yeah its been a great place for me! :)
Come visit me in Arkansas, USA - I'll show you some fantastic sights!
I love these types of Vids, im English and I didnt realise how lucky I am
haha glad you enjoyed it!! :)
Very nice contents and Well described. I have also started a channel recently on LIVING IN IRELAND.
Wonderful girl.
@@Wanderlauren Great.. God bless u.Thanks for ur reply.
It's probably about as festive this year in the UK as it is in Australia every year lol 😄
yes so true!!😂😭
Thanks this is great!
thanks!
i never appreciated how nice my country was until people on youtube told me lol
Autumn is most peoples fav
You forgot the Trafford centre 🤷♂️🕺☝️
oh yes sorry! I do love the trafford centre 😍 hahhaha
Have you been sick and had to use the NHS yet? Always interested to hear peoples comparisons and expectations about the NHS.
How much would you suggest saving as a minimum before relocating to london?
Hoping to relocate from aus maybe in a year or so
I wouldn't be the best person to ask as I live in Manchester (which is cheaper to live in then London) and I had family members I could live with for free/cheap price when I first moved over. It can depend on a lot of factors. But the UK government actually requires you to prove you have roughly £2000k in savings in order to apply for the 2 year working holiday visa, so I would say about that amount if you don't have family to stay with. I have a video on how to apply for the UK Ancestry video as well, if you are looking to get a UK visa - th-cam.com/video/3vuiDYS2d0A/w-d-xo.html
all you Aussies seem to lose your accent fast if you live here in UK for an extended period of time.
Well it’s a bit similar innit
There is a lot of tea there
I would move from Perth too Queensland is the place to be👍
Your accent is the best mix between Mancunian and Oz!!
You think so??? I don't think I sound manc at all!!
@@Wanderlauren As a Prestonian (from just up the M61) you definitely have a Manc twang in there!
What about the love life? ♥
The UK Christmas Street Markets are German style.
yep! thats right :)
Most people who live in Manchester always complain about the Metrolink - I personally think it’s brilliant....I’m sure other uk cities would love to have something like it.
It can have disruptions at times, which can be annoying!!
You have those daddario eyes 😘
haha had to google that one!
make the most of the ''Little cornershops and High st retail shops'---they are disappearing, thanks to online buying.
Yes definitely!
It's in your roots.
I thought that 👍
Big shop, welcome to Manchester
hahahah :)
