I have always sensed that in this country all people seem to want constant change constant renewal constant tearing down constant rebuilding. Very different from my upbringing in Europe. Over there the love of tradition and ancient beliefs were venerated.
Too negative, despite her closing smile and the bromide, "We need to work." So religion has failed and something new must replace it. What then does she prescribe? This apparently informal talk ought to be replaced. She should distinguish between boring sermons and exciting spiritual wisdom. If individualism is toxic, how does a person go beyond it?--into social action relevant to the human race and the natural world, humanity's "home," as Pope Francis calls it. Jesus has inspired people from the first century on. How can Ilia either translate Jesus's wisdom of word and action into contemporary meaningfulness or replace this religious figure, and with what or whom? I can't help feeling disappointed when such a stimulating writer of long works appears shallow and glib in a brief, chatty format.
I.completely agree and so relieved to read this discerning comment on what Ilio said which was so partial and distorting . The world is full of free floating "new" religions
Thank you for sharing your thoughts during this critical time in our country!
Great Ilia! Thanks.
Thank you for your Franciscan theological sanity in translating the ‘signs of the times.’

"People often desire the truth to be different than what it is". Really, that's a revelation?!
A reminder.
I believe in the separation of church and state.
