She fucking ate this verse. I was too young to really get it then but now that I stumbled upon this again I’m floored by how hard she went. Unreal talent
Thank god I grew up in the 90's,music was good, life was better ,there was no global warming ,we played outside, we were taught manners,we read books,we got educated.Thank god, one love from Botswana.
I remember listening to this song in high school... product of a father in prison and a alcoholic mother. First generation college student, played this all throughout my college years and I am now proud to say I have my Masters Degree! Don't give up yall, your circumstances do not have to define your FUTURE!
2022 we here , this was a hit back then andstil is , Alicia killed it for me all this time hadn't realised how her verses were crazy, you can feel the emotion
Jamaicans we are the best.. Lovely lively dance hall music. Am 24 now n just realizing this was is Alicia Keys lol.. memories growing up poor. This song hits me real hard . January 12 2020😢
Man!!! This song still hits deep! Always takes me back to my childhood! S/O to everyone who didn’t become a product of they environment and found a way to be something! But never forget coming from the Mud made us who we are! ✊🏾
Idk how old you are, but you must not know rap in the 90s. Many story tellers in that era. '09 was the last year hip hop was decent. There were a few songs that were actually good, this being one of them
Alicia Keys is singing and tearing it off 2021 always still the vibe! ❤ Jamaica Reggae R & B is the damn vibe! 🇯🇲 This song Baby Cham feat. Alicia Keys Ghetto Story Remix is still 🔥🔥
Here's my ghetto story I remember when I was supposed to start grade 4 my mother couldn't afford to send me at the time I had to wait until weeks after the school term was start before I could get to go. I felt sad at the time. I was so happy when my mom friend gave her a gray shoes for me to wear to school. I was supper happy the color didn't matter to me all that matters was that I was able to start school.............. I'm so great full for where I am coming from because my pass made me who I am today......... I am bless to be living in America now and helping family especially My MOMMY....

I still love this song and I can relate to it too cus I grew up in the ghetto I was born in the ghetto part of Barbados and moved to America well to NY the hood again and moved down to Atlanta again the hood then finally moved to the suburbs on the other side of Atlanta well Marietta,Ga to be exact and now living better in the suburbs in Connecticut...I still remember them days and nights in the ghetto, but with the grace of God my family survived we made it out good and it was a blessing from God, to turn something negative to a positive...I remember when I first heard this back in 2006 the summer of 2006 going to my freshman year of high school and this song would always make me cry cus I would think about those memories in the ghetto which wasn't all good, but we just made tried to make ends meet from my big bro and I robbing to selling drugs, but glad we don't do that anymore...something about this song always gets me emotional.
She certainly grew up around Hell's Kitchen in NYC and that's what it was like in the 80's and 90's. As a New Yorker, I know of many kids, myself included, who snuck on the bus or train to get to school so I don't doubt it.
