Awesome review and thanks. I just received a Foodi XL and chose it because it also has a dehydration mode and supporting kit. Your detailed review answered all of my questions. Off to ordering the kit now.

To save making a short video an hour + in length. I leave you all to think for yourselves with knowledge God has given us. As no one would or should store soft fruit outside of refrigeration many days is normal practice. Anything soft I refrigerate. If I make hardened apple chips, I may store them in a pantry.
And I know, someone may say "well you could have mentioned..." and for that, there are 100 other things too. I have done this long enough to show you, and you have to do all things in wisdom.

You can marinade it in a plastic bag instead of a pan like I did.

I was hoping the kit provided enclosed baskets but I see that is not the case. The problem I have had is that I like dehydrating celery leaves and fresh parsley and herbs, but the fan action causes them to fly all over the place. I guess I would need to jury rig a cover as I have done on previous units that I owned..

Thanks for this comparison. I'm surprised you don't Break the Rules and do 8. The time, energy, noise needed to dehydrate is normally a good excuse to do a lot at once, but if the additional food means everything takes longer, maybe it's a wash. I wonder if cracking the door open allows that humidity to leave or if that happens without adding a gap?

Note. New silicon spatulas work excellent. Get with fringed edge if you make power it will stick to it. Grt.

Thank you for this! I’ve been debating getting the kit or not for my new foodi. Have you tried making fruit leathers or any other type of more “wet” dehydrated goods? My old presto dehydrator had solid trays with lips on the edge for this. So far I haven’t been able to find an option for something like this for the foodi xl pro.

How low can you set the dehydration temperature to? Can you bring it down to 100? (I'll be using it for a different purpose)

as the fruit cools it should become more crispish. it won't be the same as the store. to get close, put the dehydrated fruit in a mesh bag or a ziplock not zipped and put it in the freezer. or store in the fridge, the remaining moisture will go away and they'll be more crispyish. shake the bag from time to time. i had a really good dehydrator and used it a lot. i got the kit for this oven, haven't tried it yet. a banana tip, do them when the peel is bright yellow and the green is just gone or nearly. they'll be more crisp and won't shrivel as much. i store them in the fridge too. i've also spread them on a sheet pan with a silicone mat and put in the freezer for 24 hours after dehydrating. also helps continue to dry them. you could also get the plastic dehydrating liners. when they've cooled just twist it a little like an ice tray and the stuff comes right off.

I asked a simple question about this cooker dehydrating jerky since you were reviewing dehydrate functions. Didnt want a recipe on another cooker as it doesn't answer my question about this cooker. Wasn't nice to see your attitude. I thought you were a good youtuber but i guess not. Shame on you.

Can you tell me the lowest heat setting that the oven goes to? My hope is that it is 100F or less, it seems that the enzymes are destroyed by too much heat.

Thanks for the video, it is very helpful as I am considering purchasing the dehydration kit. Question for you, I assume you could use one or both of the dehydration racks as additional air fry baskets and also use the air fry basket as an additional dehydration rack and effectively have 2 or 3 levels for air frying and dehydrating? Any issues you see with utilizing a dehydration rack for an additional air fry rack?

Fantastic video Darnell. You are always reminding me that my air fryer can do so much more than cook frozen french fries and chicken nuggets!
I know it will detract from the pureness of the dehydrated fruit, but have you ever tried a light spray with Pam (or some other nonstick spray) on the rack?

    • @WaveOvenRecipes

To make them easier to remove, I would just dehydrate them less or use parchment paper.

I have made some diet changes which are best for me, including no more beef. I have nothing against beef in general, but have moved to a personalized diet which excludes it and works well for me. You can leverage this and give it a try:

i have smart xl oven. the lowest temp is 180 degrees. supposedly to keep nutritional integrity, dehydrating temp should be in low 100's. is there no way to get the temp down on this oven?

If your personal preference is not within the spec of the cooker, you need to find a cooker that meets your desires.
As demonstrated, it suits my needs.

I don't like how the strawberries get stuck on the rack, I wonder how Kelloggs makes them for their cereal Red Berries, maybe they put some sort of anti stick dust on them

  • @RainorShine1

I was thinking about this but idk jusing this for cooking and dehydrating I think it wouldn't last long. Also your Strawberry are not fully dehydratored there's no snap to them which means there fully dehydrator now the 24 hrs ones might be.

@@mandiliion Magic Eraser and elbow grease. I heard a good suggestion on keeping a toaster oven clean --- treat it like it is just another dish and wash it after every use. That will keep it looking new. It's hard to restore it once it has baked on grease stains.
