They became toxic when we started university, around 2012. (They had some mental issues but they weren't willing to seek professional help for YEARS. Instead, they'd hint at ME and get upset when I didn't get all the subtle double-lqyered triple-layered hints.) We were 4 people since 2004, 5 since 2010, and it hurt a lot to let go in 2019/20. There wasn't really one single incident that triggered it, but I just one day realized how ungrateful they were (long story) and how mean they were to my twin sister. My twin sister (= also my best friend) is still around me so not a biggie, but I still miss being in a "group" of friends. But I really had to cut ties with them since whenever me and my sister were going home after meeting with them, we felt so miserable, frustrated, annoyed, angry even. It was toxic but not "internet tiktok meme toxic". Instead, it was real, psycho, deep, and.... a grown-up (non childish) dark version of bullying and exclusion. They're still sending me messages almost weekly (or in the joint group chat) but I don't reply. I still have my sister and family and now actually I got close with two girls (also twins!) who were just as careful when choosing who to hang out with as me. Hope your wrapping went well 😀

Trusting people and letting them is really difficult when you've gone through such things ): I'm glad you were finally able to find others to befriend ♡
