1983年10月14日中国福建省に生まれる。6歳の時に地元のスポーツ学校に入学し、9歳の時に福建省のスポーツ学校に編入。その後、12歳の時に人民解放軍所属のバドミントンチーム八一隊に入隊。その後、着実に実力を伸ばし、18歳の時に中国代表に選出される。この男は世界1位というよりも、リンダンという一人のレジェンドと捉えて頂きたい。毎年11月頃に開催されている
福州中国オープンは彼にとって地元の大会である。

・今後について
リンダン自身は最大のライバルであるリーチョンウェイを失ってしまった。
しかし彼は未だに現役を続けている。その理由について彼は、
2019年の世界選手権でファンのために戦うと公言した。
この姿に批判と称賛の声を浴びせられている。一方の人は
リンダンが引退してくれないと中国の若手が出れないという。
もう一方の人は、リンダンは数少ないレジェンドだからまだ見たいという。
