As a Bolt driver, I'm glad to hear you don't see many of them in your shop! I noticed some minor signs of rodent activity under the hood of my Bolt when I first got it. Some peanut butter baited snap traps seems to have kept them in check. They did a number on my cabin air filter as well, but thankfully did not chew all the way through. I'm a bit surprised the isn't any sort of screen or mesh over the intake.
I've had rodents in my 2017 Bolt but I stay on top of it. I had to put mint rodent deterrent bags under the hood which helped also lightly spray peppermint in areas under the hood. Also I open the hood twice week to inspect for any droppings.
Nice repair! I’ve found it best to offset the crimps when you have a pair of wires like this. It lets the wires sit more flush/close together and also prevents short circuits if you get any issues with the insulation over the crimp.
Great work... and great video. Have a Bolt Also. Glad to hear they don't have many issues. Had the same thing happen to me, but a different wire.. they chewed thru the brake fluid level sensor wire. Caused the ABS, and TCS systems to freak out. Did the same repair you did.. simple two wire splice. A few suggestions for people on rodents, I found putting some split loom or poly loom around the wire harnesses seems to help a bit they don't like chewing thru the hard plastic to get to the soft wire insulation. Also.. if you park outside. Leave your hood propped open.. but also use a strap of some sort to hold it down.. wind can catch the hood, slam it back against the windshield. A light shining on the engine bay can also help keep them away. For odor elimination.. what you used will be good, Ozium also works well, or get an good Ozone generator, Mine has a timer, I turn the car on set the time, and plug it in turn on as many vents as you can.. vent and floor and defrost.. max fan speed, and on recirculate, spray or turn on the machine, close up the car.. and let it go for a while the car will turn off automatically in about and hour.. you can lock the car while it is on using the remote.... Be careful most of those things are toxic to breathe.. so let the car air out for a good long while before entering the car.
We bought a 2017 Bolt last month. After setting up the app, we saw "Check 12V Battery" and "Check Lithium Ion Battery" warnings thru the phone. Here we go...........lo and behold, it was not the 12V or the large battery, something chewed through a wire causing weird voltage readings. All is well now. Rodents love Bolts?
I’ve got 2017 Bolt too. Nice to hear they are trouble free. Spiders seem to like EV’s too. I had a black widow living in my 500e under the hood, and some kind of spider is residing in the window area, passenger side of my Bolt. I keep forgetting to remove her…
Interesting that this pump had 2 wires only. 12VDC plus minus, i assume. On Teslas those pumps have 4 wires: Plus, Minus, speed control and speed signal. This way the controller can monitor the performance of the pump and throw a service alert if there is an issue.
The secondary wires on the Tesla pump are to control the pump speed via a PWM signal, not for fault monitoring. This is a single speed pump, so only 2 wires needed. The way Tesla monitors for pump faults is a combination of monitoring coolant temp sensors and pump current draw.
To add to the info that Alex put in - there are 3 coolant pumps in the Bolt EV, and only this pump for the cabin heat is 2-wires. The others are 4-wires, so they can control their speeds.
Honda has a specific Chilli oil infused tape that rodents hate. I specialise in Porsche and use it often on rodent wiring repairs.

If only all mechanics were as honest as you! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Alex is the best. Correct diagnosis is 90%
Great video Alex! Super fun to watch.

You need to control them, not to deter them. They make many babies.
@moestrei peppermint is a deturent and I have bait boxes that has really controlled them
@@91kitt see my comment, that's super interesting. might take your idea :)
Enjoyable to watch and I gained some useful insights. Keep making content and you will get the views.
Another great repair

Thanks for sharing your efforts on this.
Great Job Alex. Luvv Your Content !! 🙃
if you need to get an odor out of you hvac, you cal also spray good old lysol ( gold can).
That looks like a really nice wire stripper. One of the rare great tools from Harbor Freight?
Have a nice day Pro

Thx Alex,, 👍🌟👍
To help prevent wiring chew damage, Honda and others make/sell rodent tape.

I'm looking at a 2020-2021 around my area. they are selling with a new battery for 13k and up after $4k tax credit
