  • Sekonic meters have been a mainstay in the Will Crockett studios for many years. This video clip shows the use of a pro-level flash meter to prepare for a headshot session with a Chicago police officer.

Nonsense, the final image was probably heavily manipulated in post. The initial reading should have been taken with the dome in and pointed at the light source, the fill as well and then the final overall reading should have been done with the dome out. With your way of metering the kicker lights should also be metered towards the camera, complete nonsense.

The video stopped mid way and displayed "This video is currently unavailable". Any ideas why?

Didn’t like his condescending tone. Talking to people like we are 5 year old kids. 👎👎

I am so confused. How do you know that it has to be F 8.5 and etc? I am starting with light meters but is there a F reading that you are suppose to know before you use the light meter?

Oh my gosh, you are really going to argue with Will Crockett about using a meter? Good luck with that. His videos on metering, including Digital Exposure Control are in 5 languages and have sold more than 35,000 copies. Did you see that Sekonic paid Will to make this and it was inserted into every meter they sold for 4 years? Do you think they would put something in that's wrong? You win for the dumbest person to ever post a comment here! LOL!! Wait 'till Will see THIS! -Dave.

Thank you so much, Will. After viewing 10s, and 10s of light meter videos you are the first person to completely, and logically explain and "real life" set up using multiple lights. Anyone can meter a one light set up. But u showed how to property meter to include rim lights, fill lights, and background lights. .. and even gave different ratios between lights.... thanks again. Now im confident I can meter properly...

No problem bud, the light meter measures light volume, then displays the info on it's screen for you to set your camera to get a perfect exposure. So plug in the ISO of your camera setting, use MANUAL exposure mode on your camera, then set the aperture setting to the "f" number, then the camera shutter speed to the shutter speed on the meter. It's really that simple ( but easy to get confused!)
    : )

Hi Joe, The internal module for all Sekonic meters that activated the "T" mode functionality is proprietary to Pocket Wizard - at least in the USA it is. If what you are telling me is correct - that there is another brand that will also work I am thinking that it is not a Sekonic approved brand and can void your warranty buddy. Please check with Sekonic thru their sekonic, com website? If it's not officially supported, we would not use it here and we would certainly not recommend it to others.

    Hey Pap!
You will need to use Pocket Wizards on your lights too my friend. Pocket Wizard "speaks" only the Pocket Wizard language. The Sekonic meters have a Pocket Wizard transmitter in them to sent a signal out. You just need to also send a signal out from the camera (Pocket Wiz on the camera) and a Pocket Wiz to catch the signal at the lights too.

Thanks! Will says that most "pro" flashmeters will readout in 1/10th stops. The Sekoinics have small DIP switches under the battery cover for selecting the readout.

Hi Shekhar, Looks ok to me today buddy, refresh and give it another try?

You can use off brand transmitters with the sekonic mode that allows you to press the button on the meter and wait until it sees a flash. During the wait time, just use your wireless transmitter to trigger the flash. save money on off brand transmitters.
I have the photix system and do not use it to its fullest potential.

Hi Dave, Just an FYI - this is the video that was made into a DVD and inserted into every one of the Sekonic meters sold in English speaking countries. It's exactly how they designed the meter to work and I've found that it's works perfectly for me at least. The 1/3 stop issue {I think} is long gone. But please - call Sekonic and ask them? They will say the same as I do. Glad to help.
