Ended up down a drain…

  • No footage of the drain sorry, didn’t have my phone with me as I was worried about dropping it, but it was a ducklings down a drain rescue last night that meant I couldn’t share this as planned… nine ducklings saved last night, Helen caught four on land with her net, and managed to net another four from the drain before I got there, and one more after I arrived. Ducklings now safe with a foster mama.
So Sydney and Wilma last night, I got there to find someone had ignored my very clear sign and thrown rolled oats all over the nest, not long after a local resident had carefully removed loads of bread that had been thrown at Wilma and upset her massively. Honestly, people?!! Sydney was visibly stressed, the geese were closer than he likes them to be and the poor fella is feeling the strain as hatch day approaches… it’s the home stretch now, around a week, maybe less…

This is almost too sad to watch. However, I still will watch and support. Are Wilma's eggs disappearing? Looks like it. Do what you can.

I could only see seven, but I’m assured there were eight that morning just well covered with bedding so 🤞🏻❤️

I don't know if it is due to the fact that I am 64 years old or that people seem to be growing more and more ignorant, but I can't stand knowing that they are so inconsiderate as to throw food on the nest itself and bothering the cute birds. It's so sad to know that the little birds fell into a gutter hole. Thank God there are people like you and others that care about little lives and do all you can to keep them safe or save them in perilous situations.
I hope that all the eggs are covered under the straw and not one is lost. Beautiful Swan Mum is doing such a great job with them. 😊 Protecting defenseless lives from humans and other predators is hard, because you love them, little birds. I hope everything goes well for them and for you. Greetings from Spain.

What a lovely message thank you ❤️
We will soon have cygnets as Sydney was chatting to the eggs last night so they must be peeping getting ready to hatch 🥰
