Any tips on how to get these screwless wall plates to lay flat against the wall when installing into a new work box?
The blue tabs cause the box to sit just slightly above the surface of the wall, which in turn makes the metal plate sit even more above the surface of the wall. I'm left with a pretty sizeable gap between the plate and the wall itself, big enough that I can see the underlying box. My original thought was to simply cut the tabs on the new work box but I'm worried that will result in a box that will not tighten properly into the wall. Any thoughts here?

Is it a rough in box that was installed after drywall if so the box should be mounted to the stud and should be able to trim tabs

@@ghostlyrich Apologies! I meant to say that it is an old work box, not a new work box. It's one of the boxes with the little plastic wings on the top and bottom that tighten as you tighten the screws on the front.

I wonder if these are paintable. The high gloss shows the warping of the plastic. Having them be the same as the wall color would be ace.

I think the gloss finish wouldn’t let the paint set. Or be easy to chip off
