As a fan of Matt's offroad recovery...that's not a mountain. That's a hill.
@@Shaun-hp2yz Agreed, but that's really not impressive for off roading however. He probably made its climbing capability worse by adding more weight.
A little suspension articulation would go a long way!!!!!
Thing is as stiff as a supercar!
Thought the same thing.
This car is far too stiff...
A wheel in the air does not do anything.
There is NO Flex what so ever in that suspension.
It's a HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle AKA a humvee) They aren't exactly known for flexing, they were known for being teenager service man proof.
Obviously This one isn't stock being electric but it looks like the suspension still is.
@@AtomicReverend needs the light rock crawler sus to compensate it, but be as agile as it be, still gonna ding his head without cushions on the seat
It's probably a lot lighter without the engine and trans, causing it to float like that.
You know you live in the desert when you call that a mountain
You obviously have never lived in the desert. The mountains here in Arizona can be several thousand feet straight up. This little mole hill is not representative.
@@bob15479sorry I’m late but where is that at?im in Utah kinda looks similar
@@bob15479 thank you, I live in tooele but I am not familiar with that area.
Immediately I can see the springs are too stiff now for the weight you're carrying. I assume it's much lighter now. Need to look into some custom springs.
Air the tires down and soften up those springs
Yeah really. that thing seems to have the flex appeal of a tank instead of a humvee
I wish I had the time and money to play like this and get paid for it. You sir, are living the dream
Starting a youtube channel is free! I was going to school full time and working 30 hours a week when I started my channel... and now I work 100 hours a week. 🙃
@@JerryRigEverything being self employed isn’t the path to working less hours. 40+years of experience speaking
@@wdwerker Depends. I was working 40 hours a week sometimes overtime until 6 years ago. Now I work 4 hours a day running my eBay business making more than I could ever imagine working for someone else. You do have to have a special kind of work ethic & mindset to get started. I had tried to get my friends to start up their own and they would give up within a month or less. Even the ones that begged me for a lesson on how to get started so that they can eventually quit their 9 to 5 flopped pretty quickly. I guess that's why it's called the 1%. Most people are just not cut out to be self-employed.
Omg it flexes like a brick 😦 genuinely shocked at suspension
@@HOPPE23 with that electric motor and all those battery packs I dought it
@@larryhullinger4141 I see where you're coming from, but I'm still betting it's over 1k lbs lost. I've been all over in tons of hmmwv's and they flex. Unless you bottom out the suspense you almost never hang a wheel.
The torque must be insane
No it's not. It's actually much lower than the original ice set up, you have to remember the internal combustion engine also uses gear reduction. The torque ratings given to an internal combustion engine are at the crank, rarely given in whp /tq. Also when one wheel is in the air spinning it's applying almost 0 torque for that entire axle unless it has a locker.
The electric motor he installed produces 516 lb-ft of torque at 0 RPM compared to the standard humvee that produces 380 lb-ft at 1700 RPM
@@dustin7970 Thats un-certified electric tq rating. The ice was sae rated.. The tq claim is worthless without certification or same day same dyno comparison. The electric motor tq is likely geared not "at the crank".
Additionally, without adequate amperage you will never get those numbers. Remember, fossil fuel is about 100x as energy dense as a battery, you cannot store enough battery to be up to the task without using up All the payload.
Looks like your racing suspension is doing well
Damn, hit that 2% grade like it was nothing 😂
Looks really rigid. Wouldn't think the original humvees werebuilt so rigid.
Also, there doesnt appear to be much suspension travel. How much lighter/heavier is it now vs before?
It may have had armor as well. he could add 3 times the batteries and still be underweight for those springs.
@@fiat1314 not to mention the engine and everything he took out of it. The electric motor weights waaaay less
@@twodollarking8009 Electric motors alone weigh less, but EV batteries are incredibly dense. The Hummer EV battery is almost 3000lbs. I haven’t followed the build, so I can’t say whether he saved weight overall by removing armor and other things, but there was likely a considerable weight gain by switching from diesel to electric when looking only at those specific components.
@@twodollarking8009 he needs a real good 4L gear on it and make a ballast in back to compensate the old weight distribution.
when u need a recon light , this be a base study model, add a bit weight to balance it and the suspensions too
You have to do something radical with the suspension on that car. There is no flex what so ever in the springs.
You have to replace the springs with something much more soft, so all four wheels can do their job all the way....
You drive with only traction on two and tree wheels in the ground how it is now.
"Now where is the charging station? We have 5 miles of range left."
Wow! Good job 👍 ❤!
All those electric vehicles are fine untill you get to soft terrain.
Those electric things are extremely heavy.
Ok for rocks, no good for mud
I am sure your suspension is stiff. It looks like you are not able to get full articulation out of it and keep going on 3 wheels on obstacles that are not too big
So crazy to not hear anything from one of these. I'm in the military and these old things are notoriously loud. You can't even carry out a conversation inside contrary to popular belief. It's one of the most laughable things in movies for me personally.
But to truly not hear a thing as this thing drives, it's insane.
only sound was tires lol, unless its doing donuts on asphalt (no bueno on ice models , too slow on low rpm)
Congratulations!!! That camera doesn't do the hill/humvee the credit deserved
I worked in Hmvy for 8 years !
It is with powerful V Engine !
Nice vehicle !!
Just make sure that you bring a portable generator with you to be on there safe side. Heard a story of a guy who went off-roading in his Rivian in Utah and ran out of juice and he needed a diesel generator brought out to him in the middle of nowhere and he was hit with
almost a $10k bill to get him charged enough to get back to civilization.
Nice! Next step for the vehicle would be somehow getting rid of whatever causes that high pitched ringing sound
Once the military adopts this and paints them in orange stars green clovers blue diamonds and purple horseshoes… we are sure to be a super flower on the world stage!!
Love your content Matt!❤
Tyres caught level 7 scratches.
Chris Fix was shitting blood after he watched this video 💀
I think the suspension doesnt have enough down travel lower arms already drop down too much
Watching you build that was amazing. Great work! Your other projects are just as fantastic and very informative. We appreciate you!
Looks like its too light for its suspention
indeed it is i think its the origonal suspension when he bought that unit
Hey, fun fact: we use your tour of the F-150 Lightning plant as course material for our union training videos mandated by the Ford/unifor contract. So every Ford employee (at least in Canada) has watched your tour. Crazy, right?
Gotta love that IFS with absolutely NO droop whatsoever and that's not even gnarly terrain lol
Long time coming! What a great project. I enjoyed every minute of it. Congrats
The under the car shot was perfect lol
We are also waiting for this bro ...
A beast of a rig supper neat Zac with everything u do
It's got the torque!!! 😎 Cool
متينة و سريعة و تتحمل الأثقال و هى صناعة أمريكية مميزة
Congratulations 🎉
Ok, now let's do a river crossing! Deep river crossing! Should be fine, it's electric, no snorkel needs 😂
Congratulations🎉
I've been there with your whisper project since the first day, jerry! I love trucks too!❤️😇
Made it easy without even decreasing tire presure eiii
Cool but the deep rumble of the diesel motor in those is way better in my opinion
Definitely amazing and happy for you on succeeding.
Glad your purse fits in the back next to the cooler of bud light.
Smooth and quiet
You need differential lockers. Your wheels that lift off the ground keep spinning and are not help at all. With differential lockers they can send that unused power to the wheels on the ground to help you get unstuck.
10 tons of pure freedom
There's something up with the spring rates on your suspension. It should be cycling way more than that to keep wheels on the ground with such an easy obstacle
As long you got power to the wheels, any vehicle can get anywhere. It just doesn't matter how the power is made, it's just need enough to move the vehicle itself as it'll be ether fast but slow in one area or slow but fast in another area.
an effective 3 wheel drive 😉
You're the He-man of He-men. That's the sickest project ever from another hmmwv owner.
🔥🔥 well done. Enjoyed every video of your car journey
That is one badass golf cart.
Despite what people think, they were not great offroad because of the weight(especially when armored up). They can be made really good with the Hall racing suspension and added power.
You got there and then was looking for a charging station lmao!!!
Great brother
I love it man
it's not quite heavy enough. suspension isn't compressed at all. Very cool.
well doing off roading can be a real meditation for me! and then in total silence, Nice!
but! then again... a V8 or a TDI engine does make a lovely noise in a 4x4 truck. 😉
You should put the lockers on
Congratulations man🎉
Went up that same hill pretty sure, its down by Utah lake. If it is the same, was in my 07 Chevy Trailblazer, came down on a pretty sharp rock and it actually pierced my frame and busted my secondary air pump, but i made it! Haha!
From 100% battery to 15% real quick 😂
I saw my mountain in there, right at the end!
Just went here a few days ago! Fun hill!
a durability test?
It's all fun and games till your 50-100K electric car needs a new 25K battery in 5 years. I used to work for some very rich clients, absolutely none of them use an electric vehicle despite having travel expectations and income that would make them a perfect fit. It's a terrible investment.
You must remove center bump which consumes whole space of passenger seats keeping it diesel engine. It would be revolution.
I want one!
Best of both worlds, real Humvee without the horrible fuel consumption, my DREAM.. I'd take that over most cars anyday here in Canada, if it was reliable and in production.
i would suggest better suspension for the humvee
I don't think the intent was a rock crawler but great job!
En el desierto es muy práctico, sobre todo cuando te quedes sin pilas, se lo enchufas a un cactus....
WWWHHHYYY DID YOU MAKE IT ELETRIC!!!!
I think a Honda Fit can climb that too
That's got to be the tiniest "mountain" I have ever seen
Then roll downhill and recoup all the charge by regen
Beast mode!
City slicker with his E-Toy
That literally looks like my driveway.
As long as your motor spins that is one of the most capable 4x4s ever. Just need some adjustment for the weight loss, she's sprung
is this weightless? how come it is levitating so easily?
@@kalibisaboss7232 The battery is extremely undersized for the vehicle weight. Probably needs somewhere around 5000 pounds of battery storage to be at all practical. The problem is high weight and off road tire vehicle don't mix well.
He was quick to claim a 100 miles range but those tires alone will restrict him to 50 miles range on the road. Everything about this electric hummer is an embarrassing failure.
As a rule an electric vehicle is roughly half battery and drive to rain components by weight. This Humer is not even close to that, it has an extremely undersized motor and battery bank.
thank you gentlemen for the answers,
so it is combination of low weight and weak suspension that leads to that
When you take out the original motor, I don’t remember if it was a diesel or not, it changes the center of gravity.
Hummers ftw!!!
I can tell you from experience, those things will go anywhere with enough speed.
hasta la vista…. BABY😂🤣
Deleting the combustion engine really lets you hear the chassis 😂
Now you have to install a charging station up there to get down
And now it needs to charge, time to break out the 12 mile extension cord.
now solar panels on that flat roof for some extra power
Hill never be trying that again.
Hill always remember that one
Hill …..
Impressive
Humvee doesn't have the suspension for true rockcrawling. No travel. A wheel off the ground provides no traction.
Jeez, without the sound of the engine you can hear all the backlash in the cv axles and all the other general drivetrain torture 😮
Well done sir !
Hill left the chat
Took my Accord up the same hill
Was just about to say Honda Accord climb that lil hill
My slammed civic made it up steeper shit.
Yea I did it with gas powered corolla
"Accord"-ing to You 😂
Utah? 😂😂😂
