I Love Salcombe. Haven't been for 38 yrs. Need to have a visit again I think. Lol. I was 10 when last there. I have fond memories of my Late Stepfather. We used to rent a boat called a Dory, and cruise up and down. .Fantastic. Thanks for doing this Vlog.👍

Hi lovely clip , forgot to add when I commented on your Dawlish post I really enjoy your channel ,brings back good memories, particularly like the fact you give a little few bits of information on some of the places past . A lot of the other u tube travellers seem to act as if they’re the first to ever go there completely disregarding the places history and people , seems the present lightweight camcorder brigade have totally forgotten the many many generations that have gone before slowly turning the places to what they are today . Keep up the good work.

Seemed exceedingly quiet. Great for you to do a great job showing us around.
I would suggest that holiday homes are not good for seaside towns - I wonder how the businesses survive during the “off season” and what is your sense of community as you walk the streets? I wonder what the sense of community is in the summer?

I like your little noseys down the passageways. I’m too timid to look on my own just in case it is a private area.
The holiday homes probably drive property prices up but maybe also save some areas by bringing tourists and money in.
I usually come to England in September/October so I wondered about visiting seaside towns. We just went to Whitby this past October and it was great. If I decide I can get around by bus and train as easily I want to do Cornwall and Devon next trip
Keep up the great videos ❤️

Lovely place, sadly though, like so many coastal towns in Devon and Cornwall, many of them are only used as holiday homes, something we feel very strongly about down here !
Tourism is essential to small businesses, so why not just stay in a lovely guest house/hotel and actually benefit the owners who live there permanently.

First holiday in Salcombe was back in 1970 when there was a thriving local population. Been back many times since, last stay being in 2020. Noticeable how over 50 years, holiday homes have grown and the local population declined. Fascinating to see what it looks like in January. Will be interesting to see how the experiment in Whitby to limit holiday homes turns out.

    A. Does the tourist business ruin the town…maybe or it makes the permanent residents have a better way of life. Is there a school there? Do shop owners live in the village?
    B. My daddy flew in a glider right before D-Day. He was a forward observer. He called fire on his location hoping they would miss him and hit the Germans!
    C. Great episode!

Really boring place. The nearest beach is a ferry ride across the estuary and has no facilities. Few real shops unless you want to buy clothes at inflated prices. Parking, forget it! It’s just a weird sort of townie sector with nothing really to recommend it. I have sailed there and it is an excellent sheltered anchorage.
