Little House on The Hill:
There is a little house on the hill
And it stands there tall,
It stands there to this day -
We used to play our games.
There was a wooden house in its tree,
My dad had built, he built it just for me
With sturdy walls, he built it tall.
The velvet walls, ground waterfalls, the violent storms
The warm displays, quiet dismays, days being dazed,
Our garden maze - all gone.
There was a little house on the hill,
It stood so tall, until they sold the soil
They broke the walls and tore it down
They fled the streets and burnt the town.
The barking dogs, the parking lots, rope tied in knots
The tasteless salt, my father’s fault,
the family vault, my youth revolt - all gone.
All gone.
A stolen dance, their great romance, our only chance
The silent stare, the creaky stairs,
playing truth or dare, the spring town fair -
All gone. All gone.
There was a little house on the hill
It’s gone, I know, but lives inside me still.
Lovely setting of a beautiful poem!
