MALF Giant African Snail Bait Distribution - Maracas, St. Joseph

As part of Phase II of MALF's Giant African Snail (GAS) Management Strategy, officers attached to the Regional Administration North Division recently visited households and farmers in Maracas, St. Joseph to educate members of the community on effective management strategies to address the snail problem. In addition, hundreds of packets of Metaldehyde bait were distributed to residents to aid in the management efforts.

Good day, please note that locally the Giant African Snail has the potential to carry a vector (the rat lungworm) which causes eosinophilic meningitis. As such, the Ministry of Health - Trinidad and Tobago recommends against the consumption of these snails.
