In this video I update a little bit of project and shop information before I head to Temecula, California to pick up a 2019 Phaeton motorhome for Doug Sewell @Sewellmotorcoach
www.sewellmotorcoach.com
Its a fun journey I am happy to share!
Stay safe and becareful who you trust out there!
Thanks for the dolly load up. I bought my 2000 Beaver PT a year ago. Then bought a dolly to drag my Prius. Still haven’t had to use it yet. Glad to see it will work.
James,
You are an AMAZING content creator! You are both educational and entertaining!
I was just yelling at the phone
," THE PARKING BRAKE !!!!!!"
This is why I have a Toyota Yaris (with manual transmission) as it can be flat towed, weighs only about 2,250 pounds, and gets about 38 mpg highway. I can hook it up and double check things including connecting the drop in braking system in about 8 minutes working solo, or about 5 minutes with my wife helping. Compared to about -12-15 minutes if towing my wife's Jeep Cherokee with all its button, switch dances and gear shifting to put it into tow mode, worst part is the Cherokee has an electronic parking brake that will automatically set itself if you get the steps in the wrong order.
Hi James! I’m glad you all got back from beautiful México okay! 🇲🇽
thank you. never had any doubts
Thanks for sharing James !
Thanks!
We dolly our Jeep everywhere with that exact dolly, takes about 5 min to pop the driveshaft loose. Originally though about the same with a sedan but never had to, glad to see it fits.
I have that exact same tow dolly seen in the first 2 minutes. One tip... it will not fit a Jeep JK with 12" wide × 36" tires. Had to buy a separate set to tow. However, I now have a full set of "street/highway" tires and can save the very expensive offroaders. 😂
Wow !!
What a beautiful area and roadtrip !!
It is too bad California is being managed so poorly.
I truly hope it gets turned around as I would love to return one day for a month or longer road trip in my RV.
What is stopping you from going right now? I camped there last summer, it was great. Maybe turn off Fox News, go to California and look out the window.
Love this site thanks for the channel
Thumbs up 👍 thanks for sharing your story with us. 😊
Thanks! Glad you found it helpful.
Yes you can - Right over to the Taxi used car lot
When you asked us to remind you I felt like you just wouldn’t listen so you’re right I forgot… 🤦♂️😂
Hey James buddy, it wasn't my fault about the E brake. That's why I always goes through my Check List. Paper and pencil. Kidding buddy.😂
I was hoping you would show how you disabled the parking break for the prius. I have no idea how to even move my prius if the battery dies. Last time I was stuck on Washington street in phoenix because I could not move it until someone gave me a jump. :/
Forget the tow dolly and Prius, I want to see you flat tow your Nissan Leaf… Love your videos! We met in Harrodsburg back in Nov when I picked up my New Aire. I suggested an EV as possibly the best toad given easy access to power, but only if it can be flat towed. Turns out there is no EV that can be flat towed. But, could you mod your Leaf? That is the questions :-)
Always enjoy your videos. I noticed you have been doing 480P you running out of space lol
I dont even know, it's not recorded that way
Why r all your videos only 480p max all of a sudden? Didn’t you used to upload in 1080p? Its just so blurry now lol
i have a 2009 winnebago aspect and did an inpection of the roof. is in good shape but a couple miner cracking. what do you recomend to clean and fill them back in with, love your videos
Do you not need safety chains on the tow dolly? I have the same dolly you have but have chains bolted in the holes by the rachets that go around the frame or control arms on the tow vehicle.
Greetings from Tipperary Ireland. What distance did you travel? How are the tail lights hooked up to the RV? Love your site.
Maybe you could rig 2 flags with clamps on dolly that you could see from your windshield while loading your car on the dolly .
I enjoyed the video as always. Separately, a casino RV resort sounds very close to the ideal center of hell
It was a nice resort, I don't find much joy or amusement at the casinos but I can think of many worse places.
That RV Park is nice if you’re going to events at the Casino. But the place is pricey, especially on the weekends. If you want to overnight next to the casino and boondock overnight, you can park in the semi lot next door. Just talk to the guards. 😊We’ve done it a couple times when coming back from San Diego and there was obnoxious traffic.
👍
You were in the neighborhood again… How was the traffic on the 215? 😎. FYI we got word Walt’s - Stardeck RV in Corona is closed for good. Some type of legal issues with the new landlord after he moved. We went out this weekend to look for some parts to fix a few things on our 2000 Holiday Rambler. Supposedly there’s a salvage shop near you. Any idea who that is? Thanks James.
When I went to get my prius C with a tow dolly. It was -15 deg C. And the Car had bald tires. It got about 3/4 of the way up the ramps and got traction causing the car to jump of the side of the ramps. It took about another 1 hour to get the car back off the tow dolly and back up on the tow dolly.
Oh never good. Any damage?
Hi James, we have a fiat 500 manual 5 speed that we named gweeedo, we flat tow and with the back seat folded down it has lots of room for tools, how was the tow dolly,we tried to tow a haul and it bounced badly, nice phaeton, happy new year 😊
Get ready for high fuel costs. Temecula especially.
Do you not have to secure the steering wheel on the Prius?
I like the fact you took the Palms Hwy my OHV stomping grounds, did you depart up Hwy 79 Thr Lambs Canyon or go around thru 69`if you done the 60 route❤ I could have net ya for a In & Out Burger up by March field. 😊😊😊 I too was yelling the Parking Brake Dumbbie now I understand why your w❤ire says you have selected he❤ar❤ing 😂😂
I want to drive all of these coaches lol.
Do you work on rvs at your shop?
Hwy 74 was the filming location for the chase scene early in “It’s a mad, mad, mad,mad World”
That show was craaazy I first saw it when I was 10
"Smiley's Corner" is actually marked on Hwy 74.
Got rid of my 2015 priest the batteries were failing under warranty but Toyota said they were not failing bad enough no more hybrids until solid state batteries
Such a beautiful trip but you only posted it in 480P
Sorry, just found out my editing program settings changed. I could re-edit and post but thanks for letting me know :(
Why are soo many RV being sold that just happened to be at a RV lot? I am hearing old people pass away in the RV at the RV lot, Is this true?
I have never heard or experienced that, but chances are good that has happened. They are homes.
How can I contact you? I’m in Arizona
have you ever had to repair the HWH Spacemaker slide out systems? i got one at my work with shredded gears and pins on ground. is it possible to get parts or repair?
gears? on a spacemaker HWH? HWH is still in business in Moscow, Iowa
@ yes it has plastic gears push two chains on each side
Something definitely wrong with the video upload quality settings lately, 480p still, quite pixelated. But love the content anyhow.
Thanks, you are correct. The settings on my editing program changed, I guess I didn't realize.
@@AZExpert will look forward to some HD roof inspections again!!
It should be noted that Toyota hybrids that are all wheel drive cannot be flat towed. Will burn out the drive motor on the axle that is on the ground.
very good point, true on most AWD vehicles
I have been getting conflicting information about towing my 2004 automatic RAV4
The manual that came with it doesn't mention anything about towing
Can anyone tell me who I can go to
To find out and if I can
Who could fix me up
I am pretty sure only the manual transmission versions of the RAV4 can be flat towed (same for all other Toyotas, I have a Yaris that I flat tow)
@MrPenguinLife
I saw two men towing the same make and year of mine I looked inside and it was an automatic
But they spoke no English
They was towing it to Mexico
The Yrias looks like a great tow car thank you for your comment
🙏🙏🙏🤛👍🦅😎🇺🇸
I tried to remind you but yelling at my screen clearly wasnt enough
100 bucks a night there at Casino.
So he bought the motorhome before doing an inspection??
How do you imagine it working? I was sent to verify before the deal was completed.
@@AZExpertsimply perform the inspection before committing the purchase. Your video showed bass awkwardness
Thanks for the video, I also use a tow dolly, curious if you lowered the dolly tire pressure during it’s unloaded phase of the journey? I know it’s recommended however having air available to pump up during the loaded trip home might be a problem. Glad I’m not the only one to forget something on my checklist 😆
You're supposed to add a tow package to the Prius and then use the Prius to tow the motor home 😅
The car has taken a lot of abuse, but I don't think it can handle that
Wow, I had no idea you could tow a Prius. I have a 2020 Prius prime. Towing is a big no according to Toyota.
You can tow pretty much anything with the drive wheels on a trailer. If AWD or 4WD that might mean all wheels on a trailer, depending upon how the vehicle can unlock hubs, configure its differentials, etc.
I have a 2017 Prius Prime myself, and my daughter has a 2021. What a great car.
I figure if I ever do need to flat tow it for a short distance with all 4 tires on the road, I could always just put it in Ready Mode and EV Mode, and keep the speed way under the 84mph limit of EV mode, to try preventing the engine from coming on. But even if the engine came on with throttle at idle, I suspect it would be OK. Basically, towing the car with it running, appears no different to the car, than it going down a steep hill with your foot off the gas pedal.
I advise against doing the above, but personally, because I take my car far offroad in rugged conditions, I like having extra options in an emergency, including being rope-towed by a truck. I carry a 12 meter dynamic tow rope, and a 150 foot nylon rope 1/2 inch in diameter.
I was going to buy a large RV in the US, but given the attack on Canada by Donald Trump I will now be buying Canadian for the foreseeable future. Sorry guys. Nothing against you though James. You are the best.
No worries. “Alls fair in love and war”
I like the travel vids just as much as the fix-it vids. Always watching for you to drop new ones. Thanks James.
I'm with you, hang in there Canadians.
The tires I like best (Michelin X-Ice) for the US market are now made in Canada, so I'm not looking forward to paying the 25% clown tariff on my next set. Maybe I will buy them on a trip to Canada, as I live maybe 3 hours from Montreal. The oil heating my home as I type this on a very cold day, is supplied by Erving, a Canadian source of fuels here in New England. Starting a conflict with Canada, supposedly over a "national emergency" from drugs crossing the US-Canada border, is insane. It sounds like he's raising our electricity prices also, due to my region importing hydro power from Canada. It is ridiculous.
Basically, it is trying to replace income tax with tariffs, which are basically a sales tax on consumption. Normal people spend most of their income on consumption, billionaires don't. They can make 100,000x as much money as us, but can't eat 100,000x as much food as us, or wear out 100,000x as many Michelin tires as us, or have 100,000 refrigerators plugged in, in the kitchen.
Wow didn’t know any large RV’s were made in Canada!!! What name brands are made there
@@EfficientRVernormal people pay taxes. Billionaires don't.
