I honestly don't know how a franchise recovers from this. I've seen it too often with NFL franchises after brutal losses. And for the Leafs, this series makes 2019 look like a minor inconvenience.
How did Tampa recover from getting swept by Columbus? That's the only glimmer of hope I have left. But it's the Leafs so they'll probably fuck the dog instead
Ya it pains me to see this, for their fans. You look at this team on paper they are a power house, they went all In with 4 lines of amazing players, a combo of youth and veterans, but nothing seems to work. Brutal, just brutal..
Crazy switching from the Leafs game to the Boston game. A top line that can perform, aggressive play, and more importantly heart. Boston lost tonight but they looked more alive than the leafs had in three games.
a lot of no shows yet again. Spezza & Nylander wer the only two forwards that showed up. Like Marner keeps saying we have to show up on time , but he thought the game was on Tuesday.Another woe is me from Marner & Matthews. Coaching was not great either. How can you put only one shooter on PP. Nylander Spezza Matthews would be three shooters. But no just matthews with 4 passers all trying to pass the puck into the net & everyone in the world knew it except the coaching staff....Marner Matthews was not working, did he put Nylander with Matthews try to change it up, get Matthews away from Dounut? They have to dump Marner some how. Pretty sure he is the poison in the well.
@@allanmmclean I know matthews and marner were amazing in the regualr season but it's clear matthews and marner aren't working in the playoffs. If they keep marner (because lets be honest, they're going to keep him) I would like to see nylander play with matthews and marner play with tavares. It just makes more sense to me, two shooters on the matthews line and we know they can play well together and marner and tavares played well with babs as well. Spezza, no matter how old he is, I want to be resigned because he showed up. They need to improve the defense a bit more as well. An interesting offseason indeed.

I've been saying this for a while....the Leafs won't make it anywhere until they get a Vezina winning/contending goalie. Think of the production line of bums they've had in the net since CuJo and CuJo wasnt anywhere close to Hasek, Brodeur or Roy. Instead of using their first round picks on forwards (when they don't trade them) how about trading up to get the next can't miss goalie prospect.....and unlike Tuukka Rask, you don't trade him.
I've been doing videos for about a year now, 1 take is so hard to do. Idk how he or THG do it, especially THG who does it almost every video. I didn't think much of it until I started making videos, but I'm constantly impressed now.
@@mikem44 you know what sucks, many of us leafs fans are also bills fans so we get double the disappointment. Luckily the bills are looking good and hopefully they can pull it off soon. Leafs need to sort some things out first.
The last playoff series win was in 2004. Its 17 years old now, almost an adult. The Pittsburgh Pirates haven’t won a playoff series in 42 years. It’s old enough to be the Maple Leafs playoff series win droughts dad.
@Spicy Meatball No. He played four MVP caliber years there, during which time the Pirates won 88, 94, and 98 games (missed the playoffs in the first season). They just choked in the playoffs, and played in the best division in baseball. They were a 98 win wildcard (good enough to win any other division that year), and lost in the one game playoff to the NL Cy Young with a sub 1.8 ERA, who had a 1.2 ERA in the second half of the season.

Willy looked so PISSED when he scored in the 3rd, I think he wasn't happy with Matthews and Marner doing nothing all series while he always gets all the criticism during the season, but when it counts, it's him who delivers
Marner 1st PP minutes & apparently refuses to play anywahere else except on the half wall. Everyone just standing still.Pass & pass & pass & pass, because none of them but Mathews can shoot. It is not like Willy can shoot or Spezza , nah, Thorton & Marner has to work sooner or later actually never since Thorton is gone( thankfully) Just think they could have paid 1.5 for a decent player instead they get two geriatics that did nothing. I so agree . Nylander looked ready to go back to the face off circle to try score the next one. When he looked back he saw a bunch of sissies who had already given up. He looked dejected as.

Yes they should pay him a million for every assist & goal. 1 goal in 7 games divided by 2 = 1/14 of a goal per game by them.So if the series was 98 games long they would each have a complete goal.
Yes for sure I hope when the window is open to win for them they don’t strike out in the first round and maybe the next time leafs win the series VS Sens fitting the last time was vs Sens

I'm a Habs fan and honestly I haven't been able be happy about this win yet, just seeing the level of misery in the Leafs fanbase for so long, it's just brutal. Sure it's a game, but it brings people together and gives us something to attach our emotions to. Watching the way the Leafs folded, and the resigned expectations of the fans, it's hard to really take much joy out of that. I had told myself "if the Leafs have to finally break out, do it this year while we are still getting our team in gear" and had accepted the possibility of it just this once. And yet. Anyways, I don't want to pile on but I just wanted to say that all fans are essentially the same at their core, and so I feel for you guys. Also respect to Steve for sharing that charity for Residential School Survivors.
Thanks for actually being a hockey fan instead of some dick bag trying to rub it in, I can take it when both teams play well and my team looses but it drives me nuts having fans rag on opposing teams fan when clearly the loosing team just never showed up to play.
We were basically in "rebuild" mode and the team somehow just clicked together in an unexpected fashion so they got to the finals. That's way faster than expected. In 5 years, we could actually go on another deep run again.
"How 'bout another joke leafs? What do you get when you torture your fanbase by CONSTANTLY CHOKING IN THE FIRST ROUND? YOU GET WHAT YOU FUCKING DESERVE."
Steve: no, we non-leafs fans aren’t sickos. It’s just that we love to see your passion, and we love to see a true fan even though he’s a fan of a different team. We know that you would’ve traded in all your 60,000 viewers on the live broadcast for a win last night. That’s why we have enormous respect for you and it hurts us to see the leafs lose just because of you - not because of them. Thanks for all your videos!
Hey Steve from the past, You did it again. You did what you said you wouldn't. You bought into the regular season success and storylines, and they still ended up disappointing you. Yet another loss in Game 7. If it makes you feel better, at least this time they really tried. They gave it their all and ended up being short.
I know His video for previewing game 7 was like “ if the leafs don’t win ima be really mad. Well maybe not too mad, it’s the leafs after all” He probably feels sad for them, him being a bruins fan and all
The Hockey Guy watched his Canucks lose Game 7 in 2011 against Boston, and says "Oh well, guess that's it.". In a year where Vancouverites RIOTED. And he's mad. He watched his team lose 2 SCFs and just says "Eeh, they get there someday.". And he's mad.
Steve, this isn’t about coming to see you get angry, it’s about a thoroughly articulate rant that genuinely examines the mystery that is this incomprehensible loss. I come here for some true insight.
When I found out, my heart sank. Not because I’m a die hard fan of the team, but because I knew Steve would be defeated. It’s the same with Buffalo and Melody. You guys make these teams worth watching because you guys are fantastic and make me care about teams I wouldn’t otherwise

as much as i blame Marner(and i do a decent amount), a lot of the blame need to be on Keefe as well for literally not doing anything about it. Matthews and Marner wasn't working. CHANGE THE LINES!!! Marner didnt have a single powerplay goal the entire season. Take him off the power play!! What's that? He isnt there to score goals? He sets them up? Well last i saw, almost no one was scoring powerplay goals on the leafs since the halfway point of the season. Leafs had the worst powerplay in the league from halfway to the end. Less than 10%. Ya the top guys need to show up and they certainly take their fair share of blame, but Keefe literally did nothing to change the situation either. Pretty much from game 1 to game 7, he did the same thing game in and game out with zero change to get things moving. As far as im concerned, he's just as much to blame as the players are in this scenario.
@@dominiquerichard1342 apparently there was a radio hit from Friedman that basically said marner would throw a fit if taken off the pp1 and matts wing. The exact quote is much more diplomatic but thats the jist. He is the problem through and through.

This year was it. They were gifted with the Division format where 1 Canadian team is guaranteed to go to Conference Finals. Went all in on FA by giving away all the draft picks. First round against an 18th place team. Everything was aligned perfectly for them to succeed. In the end, they blew it. This is on the players. Period.
Yeah, if they can't win this year, they damn well won't next year. Up against Tampa, Boston, and Florida. This was their best chance and they pulled off one of the craziest chokes I've ever seen (I honestly think this might be worse than the 2010 bruins and 2019 lightning).

Absolutely. I’ve recently found not every province educated the same way about residential schools ( my education was 2000-12 in MB and went over it on a few occasions ). It makes me sick every time something comes up like this thinking Canadians did that to countless families.

BE NICE TO YOURSELF! Actually, here's a gentle fan (of both you and the Leafs) suggestion: why not do LFRs on a weekly basis for next season? Weekly. The regular season (barring any potential pandemic-related alterations) is 82 games long and runs for half the year. That's a lot of reactions, and like Sens goals they count for double when you have a young one. On a weekly basis however, you'll have a lot more time for yourself and your family, you'll probably get more sleep, and the only way people get to see "crazy man go kaboom" is if the team puts up 3 or 4 losses in a row. I'd tune in to watch a weekly LFR that discusses the ups and downs of 2-4 (on average) stretch of games that has a whole lot more good and a whole lot more bad. It's still a reaction video, just a different kind of reaction video. You'll be reacting to how the Leafs have handled multiple games in a row and can put together some analysis on players' trends over those games. It's not instant-reply analysis, it's more short-term analysis (or long-term, depending on how you look at it). I'd watch that! And (because I'm a 38-year-old-going-on-72 who likes to "waffle on" conversationally like Grandpa Simpson...) on the topic of 82 games a season, with all that's gone on in this world in the past year and a half, I'm really not sure I want to devote that much time to watching hockey anymore. At least, not while game management is a thing by an "old boy's club" known as the refs, not while a goon (who makes it up as he goes along) runs the DOPS instead of a non-biased individual, not while combating racism is just a series of words strung by teams to make them look good without any action to back it up, and certainly not while every time a collective bargaining agreement comes up for renegotiation that a collection of billionaires tries to shortchange their workers in world of mass economic divide. It isn't just the Leafs losing anymore, the way this league is run and the devotion to $5000 tickets for a live game just makes me more and more sick. You are absolutely right that hockey is not that serious, so I wish you, Leo and your wife the best summer possible. If I can't watch all games next season and you do an LFR for each one, I'll still watch those!
@@KobeLoverTatum If you believe all hirings should be limited to people who "know the game" (i.e. former players), then yes? There's a reason though that teams and players both avoid going to independent salary arbitration like the plague though. At this point I can only see hiring a professional from outside of hockey culture to manage that position as being the best way forward. Either that or do it by committee - NHLPA rep, NHL rep, non-hockey professional as the veto.
Oh look, hockey acid missing the forest for the trees! What is this, the youtube comments section?? Weekly LFR sounds like the absolute right way to go about this! Keep them to traditionally slow NHL days (do those exist anymore?) so you can keep up all the great work you do with sportsnet, spend time on things that actually matter ie the wife and kid and gosh I dunno your personal well being? Commentary on how our team is trending week to week is a great deal more rewarding and informative on the actual state of the club vs blowing up every time we lose 9-2 to the Nashville Canadibruins against our own zamboni driver in game 7 trapped inside a steel cage with Kane and Undertaker... (this really happened you can Google it) Sure it's fun to watch Steve go screamo mode sometimes but only from that place inside me where evil lurks insidiously waiting to send my depression through the roof over, and, again, I cannot stress this enough, A PROFESSIONAL RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY CLUB. Steve to Steve, I've never met you but I love you and I hope you have a great summer brother. @@cratesfn7856 It's only a suggestion, and it's entirely up to him. I'm not paying him and neither are you. What TH-cam may pay him for video hits is a smidgen and probably not worth the investment. As he very much implied in the video, the biggest hit-generating videos are the ones following significant losses. In other words, "crazy man go kaboom" is what people want, but I'm not sure that's what Steve wants. 14 years with "it can't be a lot of vids" is underestimating the environmental stresses that everyone faces in the world of skyrocketing costs of living and economic divide, while he's trying to raise a young kid. It's not just a simple number, like 82 games, it's having to watch 82 games, each night, a decent portion of which are out of our time zone and the rest are minimum 7pm to 10pm, take notes, and then spend the amount of time necessary to shoot, revise and edit the reaction, look for valuable questions and answers to address, and make any other plugs. You can't tell me over the course of 6 months each year, that that time does not add up significantly, and after 14 years you don't start to evaluate the risk and reward value. I've shared in too much of the same misery that Steve has to demand he make an angry man explosion after every frustrating or humiliating loss, which to me is also unethical. His happiness should not be compromised for anyone's perceived entertainment value. Edit 1: Number of fans be damned, there's only three that matter - his wife, Leo and Iggy. Edit 2: Oh, and himself as well, obviously.

Get a new Head Coach get a new offensive co-ordinator, expose reilly in the expansion draft and take calls on every player from other teams to see if you can get some pieces to give you full lines instead of offensive pairings. Too many stretch passes and dump and chase plays. For a "fast team" you almost never see them skate with the puck. Marner and Matthews should have been split up atleast on the pp when it started to fail and on their lines when 5v5 wasn't working, instead nothing got changed around. Marner used to be a dynamic game changing player that made his line mates better. I dont think it was crazy to think 5 years ago Matthews would be on 50 goal paces after scoring 34 in his first season, now with Marner on his wing, you could argue Matthews is right where he was projected to be and Marner is no longer a dynamic game changing player. He's become very 1 dimensional under this coaching set up and play style. Nylanders last goal looked effortless, the major difference was we had players attacking the net instead of keeping the puck on the outside and trying to force passes through the mtl defencemen. Why couldn't we have done that at all in the last 3 games untill the final 2 minutes? Spread your offense out over 3 lines instead of loading up 1 line, let the players skate, and clear up some cap space to create actual lines instead of shuffling left wingers up and down all season.
I'm beginning to feel like there really is no hope for this team. It doesn't matter what they do, who is on the team or who is coaching, they choke on nearly every chance at something great. It's so frustrating watching the team I've grown up with finally have the best chance since I have literally been alive and have the best players, in probably the entire NHL, just flop like it's the same team from 2011. The overall player skill and talent has progress so far since then, it literally doesn't make sense mathematical. The Leafs have rolled the worst RNG even when the numbers are impossibly in their favour. But I guess those don't truly make great teams. The Leafs should do what the Premier League and European football leagues do and just train good teams from youth on instead of building teams out of the best players.
I couldn’t even watch this until today....not going to lie, when you were talking about a player winning elsewhere instead of here, I teared up....thanks Steve for all you do

Then they make it again in 2011, same thing, lost in the first round. Then they just win their first Stanley Cup in 2012. Like where did that come from?! Then they did it again two years later! Hockey is an unpredictable sport.
I honestly don't know how a franchise recovers from this. I've seen it too often with NFL franchises after brutal losses. And for the Leafs, this series makes 2019 look like a minor inconvenience.
Be ruthless
How did Tampa recover from getting swept by Columbus?
That's the only glimmer of hope I have left.
But it's the Leafs so they'll probably fuck the dog instead
2019 wasn't even that bad to begin with, but all of these past losses and then to top it all off with this. Now that's BAD.

a lot of no shows yet again.

Instead of using their first round picks on forwards (when they don't trade them) how about trading up to get the next can't miss goalie prospect.....and unlike Tuukka Rask, you don't trade him.

With that said, this series was an absolute delight for hockey fans outside of the GTA
Absolutely. I’ve recently found not every province educated the same way about residential schools ( my education was 2000-12 in MB and went over it on a few occasions ). It makes me sick every time something comes up like this thinking Canadians did that to countless families.
@ja maguire while they were catholic based, it’s not quite as black and white as that. Both parties have blame in it. Even though one may have more blame than the other, they both took part in the atrocities that happened.

yes.. ha ha ha ha! Yes!
This keeps getting recommended to me for like 3 weeks straight so I guess I'll relive this pain
Why oh why doesn’t the NHL hire that “non biased individual”? Oh wait, cause that doesn’t exist.
(this really happened you can Google it)
Sure it's fun to watch Steve go screamo mode sometimes but only from that place inside me where evil lurks insidiously waiting to send my depression through the roof over, and, again, I cannot stress this enough, A PROFESSIONAL RECREATIONAL ACTIVITY CLUB.
Steve to Steve, I've never met you but I love you and I hope you have a great summer brother. You owe us nothing at this point and I, for one, would much rather see you happy and evolving than stuck in this cyclical hell for another 17 years...
Til next year, Go Leafs Go 🖖🍁
It cant be alot of vids for him hes been doing this for 14 years man I think he doesnt make them weekly because people actually wait for the vid to be out the next day (especially me) and if he did that i think he would lose a lot of fans because its not a schedule because one week you could be uploading on thursday the next week on monday

Steve asks: “What would you do.” Steve I don’t know anymore this is why I came here...
@@ADragonNamedSpyro Thanks for your input and taking the time to write this. I don't know if anything can really fix this team anymore though.

Bad team, didn't play an American team until the Cup semis ALL YEAR! Then the Knights lose some 3-2 games and this team's playing for a cup they never really earned a chance at so it's great that Tampa Bay sent the right message of who they really were in '21.
