Late to the party, but I just want to say THANKS! I searched for a while to get a good, clean intro to a Linux system (I'm thinking about taking the plunge). I am interested in the history, the kernel, etc., BUT right now I need to know what it's like to use it.. This was perfect.
I honestly wouldn’t mind using Linux if every Windows program just worked. I don’t want to go around dealing with setting up things with like wine to hope that it will work. I use Windows because I know it and pretty much everything I use works on it. However, I can say that Ubuntu is a pretty good Linux distribution. I have used it in the past and found the OS itself pretty good. I’d pick it over MacOS or Chrome OS any day. I’ve just used Windows since such a young age that it has basically engrained itself into my brain with how to use it.
@BlackWorm yeah. Most programs I use have some kind of alternative. But some don't and others that do often have such different interfaces I would have to learn them again. I would take Linux over MacOS or Chrome OS though. I do like Linux for some things and have even considered putting it on a second drive.
BlackWorm Yeah, some I can learn no problem. I will even admit that Linux seems to have some better open source programs depending on what it is. I hated Windows 8 too, but didn’t have the knowhow at the time to install any kind of Linux. I don’t like Windows 10 much either, but I live with it. I use Firefox as a browser which is easy since most Linux distributions come with Firefox installed. I also use 7-Zip, Handbrake, VirtualBox(which I know is on Linux and even used Ubuntu on one of my computers to get VirtualBox to work correctly) and all sorts of other stuff that I don’t use as much. I also prefer MPC-HC(which I know is Windows only) as a media player because I prefer its interface and think the frame rate is better on certain things. But I do keep VLC(which I know works on pretty much anything) for certain compatibility reasons with file types and certain DVDs not cooperating with MPC. I have thought about dual booting Linux on my Windows XP computer just so I could run some more up to date programs. But have decided against it because I can’t afford to lose my Windows XP installation if something goes wrong because its DVD drive is broken(it supports USB booting but I’ve heard Windows XP is hard to install from a USB) and I kinda prefer having it start directly into Windows just so it feels more authentic.
Current UBUNTU is just an improved and nicer looking version of this, every year it gets closer and closer to being able to completely replace Windows for a mainstream normal user. sure there are a few hiccups but as a student software developer i'm sure i'll be fine. I actually enjoy learning Bash and how to use the terminal, it's refreshing to just type sudo apt-get theappiwant and it just installs immediately with no restart needed.

My doubts are 1) Are Linux mint and ubuntu are same? 2) in 2021, Ubuntu os is free for personal users or I have to pay for tools separately ( does it have hidden payment method )? 3) Why it asks to click third party software? Hi, is it really as useful as Windows? I came here to learn as I'm considering "the big switch". Can I ask if the learning curve was steep, or intuitive?
@@dbaider9467 Both Windows and Ubuntu are unique in their own way, it's depend on what you gonna use your computer for. If you use your PC mainly for gaming, I think windows still better choice, since most of PC games compatible with windows instead of Linux For other purpose, Ubuntu's as good as Windows, and it's free. Most of the applications is open source, and they work great. Furthermore, ubuntu can coexist with Windows, so you can have both in your PC. I'd suggest you to try, and if you somehow dislike it, you can just uninstall and go on with Windows :) And for the learning curve, it's pretty simple to use actually. It's more like "Android for desktop". If you're used to Windows and Android, you won't have problem with Ubuntu. Learning shell command is fun tho.
Great video. I use CentOS and Windows, both professionally and personally a lot. However, CentOS (being a RHEL variant) doesn't do as well as a desktop platform from what I understand from coworkers. This video shows a lot of features that are great to be aware of, how to use and etcetera. It helped that you spoke with confidence, loudly and clearly for people to understand you too. Are there any video games for Ubuntu being written?

Sorry microsoft.
If you use your PC mainly for gaming, I think windows still better choice, since most of PC games compatible with windows instead of Linux
For other purpose, Ubuntu's as good as Windows, and it's free. Most of the applications is open source, and they work great. Furthermore, ubuntu can coexist with Windows, so you can have both in your PC. I'd suggest you to try, and if you somehow dislike it, you can just uninstall and go on with Windows :)
And for the learning curve, it's pretty simple to use actually.
It's more like "Android for desktop".
If you're used to Windows and Android, you won't have problem with Ubuntu. Learning shell command is fun tho.
Thank you for your useful video, I will download it. very clear and direct to the point, I give you 5 from 5
This video is exactly what I was looking for and has perfect explanations and inferences about possible questions/needs. Keep up the good work 💜
Great video.
I love Ubuntu.
I really appreciate your video. Thanks a million.
