So, essentially, the only ways to bypass the Star is the blast zone, lingering effects from Joker's Curse, or the user destroying themselves.

Roy's and Chrom's death were by far the funniest. They basically go into the equivalent of a t-pose.
In terms of bypassing invincibility, there are two moves that completely ignore invincibility. Not even respawning can save you. These moves are Luigi's Negative Zone from Brawl, and Bayonetta's Witch Time from 4 onwards. However, the former isn't guaranteed to do damage (or anything, for that matter), and the latter doesn't deal its own damage at all.

I was half expecting Hero's super convoluted 3000 damage attack to appear like maybe the star wasn't really invincibility but just set your defense to a ludicrous number.

This is honestly really cool!
If you stay in the microscope of the blast zone on stamina while having the star, maybe thats another way of death.
Everything that comes from the inside of the character such as eating or taking from its own stamina to attack can deal damage, so Invincibility only works as an armor for damage from the outside.
Summary: what can beat invincibility? 0 IQ
Its really amusing that all the characters with recoil moves just spontaneously have heart attacks or something when they use them.

You're saving grace and your chance to ignore the 3 pokemon and rathalos coming at you. You grab it and rush over to hit them, and two hits into your combo, pichu's poor little heart gives out and you're left speechless, as the victory music plays and you hear...

Technically yes but the point is that while 'invincible" you still take shield damage, which can make someone kill you.

Ridley also has a self harm move but it doesn’t work with him because the opponent has to hit Ridley in order for it to work. See, when Ridley charges the fireball in his mouth and he’s almost ready to spit it out but an opponent interrupts him, Ridley swallows the Fire ball and takes damage. But of course it doesn’t work since it requires actually hitting Ridley which is impossible due to Starman’s invincibility
