I'm thinking about overhauling the commander x16 design. I think the use of the 6502 is telling of the design philosophies used. I think the problem with using USB is that USB controller would have more power than the 6502 on the board!! Btw, many 8 bit CPUs of the era are still in production. The Z80, the CDP1802. I would have liked to revisit a different CPU other than the 6502. I like the bank switching of the commander x16 though. Interestingly, arguably the first home computer was based on a rca 1802 and called the "commander" lol.
