This song came out at such a pivotal moment for me in my life. I was a sophomore in high school and had just transferred to a new school. My anxiety was through the roof. I was lost/depressed. I didn't have any friends and felt a loneliness due to my being Black and gay. I remember skipping school one day and sitting in my mom's old junk car that was left at home. I would just sit in the car for hours and play the radio and lose myself. I vividly remember hearing this song for the first time and I instantly loved it and knew that it would be a hit. This song made me feel so powerful and beautiful. The lyrics ignited in me a sense of confidence. A newfound understanding that I could be myself and that if I learned to love who I am, perhaps the world would begin to as well. I love you so much Rihanna. You will forever be my favorite music artist and thank you for the soul in which you perform this song. Also, much thanks to Sia for writing this beautiful masterpiece.
