Such good stories, Heath. I think the biggest contributing factor to our "softness" is that everyone's face is glued to their cell phones... even at the gym, so no one knows how to make anything anymore. Why work when you can be entertained! Nice tribute to the older generation. With age comes wisdom.

Hope your foot is recovering without any further hiccups. I live in AUSTRALIA & a good 70% of farms always use buried custom built, lined concrete tanks. To give you an idea on Wednesday this week it reached minus 8.8deg where I live and the water was as good as gold. I also live in a very high bushfire area plastic tanks are no good they melt they also disintegrate over time, if they get buried you have to be really careful , there has to be a min 300mm of well compacted sand under them & you have to back fill right round the full depth of the tank with sand as doing it with soil especially in the hot months when you get rain it will compact and the soil expands potentially cracking the tank( I cant help but think that the same will occur there when the ground freezes, moisture in the soil expands when it freezes) if they are buried concrete this ground force of the soil wont impact the concrete tank nor will the top lid of the tank 'melt' due to fires. All properties have to have a min 2 x 50,000 litre tanks (= 26,417.205 gallons) purely for fire fighting when no reticulated water is in place. Given the way climatic conditions are ever changing & to protect your built property here they have heavy duty (buried) copper piping from these tanks to the house with sprinkler systems on the roof to utilise via a generator (or in your case solar power) to turn on when there are fires that pose a threat. We also have gutter plugs so the water acts like a waterfall from the gutters to protect the home. I'm not by any means telling you what to do but rather what we have to do to ensure that our homes are protected. Who would've thought that England would have to suffer severe fires like they have this summer, not to mention France etc. Our weather man in OZ ,to give us perspective, cut the world in half and turned Northern hemisphere into Southern Hemisphere to show where England fell on Australia , it actually didnt it was lower than Tasmania almost touching Antarctica, that perspective made me realise how weird it was that England were having these fires. Scary and its not really going to get any better I'm afraid.

The comment you made about the knowledge we are losing from the older generation is so true. My Dad was man that could do anything. And I do mean anything. Build a house from scratch. The only people he brought in were brick masons. Everything else he had the knowledge and experience so he did it. He farmed and worked a full time job, rebuilt anything he could get his hands on, knew his way around a motor and the things he didn't know, which I learned were few, he learned from someone who did know how to do it. He taught us so much but so much more was lost when he passed. He did all this with an 8th grade education. I wish I had all the knowledge he had because it was priceless.

Just my opinion..... but I really like the corrugated tin better than the river rock idea. The tin gives your house the more “ rustic “ home look which I admire.
Regarding going to the gym vs hiking or working hard : one of the first thing gyms teach you is to stretch before any exercise. I did'nt do it for years and had a few musles incidents working hard. Now I do and feel well and fresh at the end of the day. It works !
I don't know if you have ever thought about it but the dirt bank right behind your house would be an excellent place for an in bank root type cellar slash storm protection bunker
I think you hit the nail on the head when you say hard times produce hard ppl and easy times soft ppl...Im trying to teach my great neices and nephews how we used to do things so they know these ways...the way the world is atm is what I grew up with everything was expensive and a lot of it out of reach for poor ppl so long as I have a roof over my head food in my gardens and chickens laying eggs I have all I need...
Heath, every time I watch one of your videos I am reminded of everything that is good and wonderful and pure and worthy!!….And an Era almost gone by… I have so many things I want to put down all at the same time but I’ll try to do this in a manner that makes sense to you as well as myself. Let me just say first how very nice the siding and aluminum galvanized Waffle trim at the bottom really looks together, even if it is just for a couple of years to you could do the stonework on the bottom half.!! I truly admire the fact it you are always working by yourself and it is not easy work that you were doing!! I grew up and there was always someone around to help, but not in your case… I watched you work and I’ve watch you walk in discomfort as you walked up the hill to the Shop for another two or more supplies
Continued comment: I was seeing that I was watching you walk up that hill to go get supplies and I could tell your foot was hurting you but it didn’t stop you from working. You remind me so much of my father and my grandfather and probably your father and your grandfather in that, a job needed to be done and you didn’t sit around babying yourself with a foot up in the air on a footstool but rather,You just got back to work because there was so much that needed to be done.!!Also, it was more painful for you to sit and think about what was not getting done then if you just got up and got busy working and put your mind to the task at hand and overlooked the pain. In your video you talk about how much of the history is being lost from what are parents and grandparents taught us & that if we don’t start recording it and getting it down and books or journals for the next generations to learn from, it will all be lost!! I had a similar conversation with my siblings in the last 6 to 9 months I had a family gathering as we looked around and saw mom and dad‘s surgery generation of grandchildren and great grandchildren running around playing, clueless of who they were or what they stood for. One of my sisters said to me, “ vickie, we need you to write the stories down because you can remember them and you know all the details and we don’t!! We need you to do it sooner than later and we can help you with ideas as to what to put in that book but if you don’t start on it this year it won’t get done because we are all approaching our late 60s and early 70s , Plus some of our health is beginning to fail, And that includes mine. I attended a funeral a young niece under 50 with four children, between the ages of 22 and 27 and 8 a little grandchildren, between the ages of two and five. My niece had been fighting cancer… Two types for the last 2 1/2 years in the hospital recently told her there was nothing more they could do and she chose to go to her home I live out her final days with her children and grandchildren, with hospice coming in two days a week. And her mother was my sister, Who passed away four years ago. We all met for a memorial service last Wednesday and I came from a family with 12 children in it and already three it’s a 12 have passed on before they were not even 65 Any of them… so I have lost one fourth of my siblings already before 65 years of age. Just got me to thinking on the way home and by the time I got home I got out a 8 1/2 x 11 watercolor art book and half a dozen fancy pens and pencils and I began making a list of stories that needed to be recorded. I’ve been able to write stories and tell stories make up poems since I was a young girl but this was going to be different… this needed to be capturing history and facts and the essence of important men and women in our families name oh and each chapter I would do a details drawing/watercolor painting that can be shrunk down for the book, later, plus some cameo drawings of individual seeing such as my dad‘s work boots, leaving my mothers apron, her famous six layered strawberry shortcake with homemade Whipped cream, etc. and I was up half the night writing a list of chapters and beginning skeletal sketches of things I wanted to capture in this historical family book. Now I know, Heathkkkkiiioooiooo you do not have time
Cont’d 3 (oops neuropothy Fingers and I fell asleep typing but I’m almost finished with my thoughts)… I was saying that I know Heath, That you were too busy to probably sit down and start writing about your father and grandfather‘s lives but I was checking into devices that can make this easier for both of us and I wanted to share it with you. You can go online and they have several different options and the one I’m the most excited about is a recorder which has a microphone and since you already do you tubing you may have something that would work and not even have to purchase yes but what I’m particularly interested in is that it transcribes whatever you record onto a USB port for you and then you can take that and have a print it wherever you want. The first copy, you know, will be a very rough draft for you to work off of an edit but eventually he will have a product that can be printed and finalized for distribution. I’m not gonna give you the exact information because there’s so many options out there that if you just go to Amazon recording Devices you’ll be able to find what I’m talking about. Maybe between you and your wife, Cedar You guys can also begin to capture the stories about your father and grandfather as well as the wonderful stories about your beautiful land. I apologize if this turns out to be such a lengthy reply/comment and I hope it made sense despite Comment 1, 2, and 3. Praying your foot is well soon and that you are on the move quickly I’m back to normal!!
I have a pet door in one of my rollup doors with an unlimited supply of food and water for my collection of outdoor cats. I have relocated 4 raccoons and last night my trail camera recorded 3 more raccoons. Instead of using cat food to bait the trap and having to worry about mistakenly catching one of my cats, I checked the Internet and discovered that #1 bait for raccoons is marshmallows and #3 is strawberry wafer cookies, so I also sweetened the mix with some strawberry preserves. We'll see...
It's not always easy, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. My experience with Racoons is the same as Opossums, Where there is one there is usually more. Don't be surprised if you continue to have problems. But here's hoping I am wrong.
Hello just plug into you content going through TH-cam and I really like it so I’m going to look forward to seeing more episodes hope your feeling better.
You know raccoons don't have a lot of natural enemies so it isn't bad to keep them thinned out they multiply very quickly consider what you did a counterbalance once they find your chickens they'll come back again and again and again till they're all gone and you are exactly right on the difference in the generations
You do what you have to do, when you live out of town. (Black bear) I have had a handful of times I had to take care of animals around my property and you definitely did the right thing.
I recommend getting a heavy duty pressure washer to take down the layer of stain you put on. If you stain over it it will all end up a different color unless you are going very dark with the stain.
You should be letting that grass in the goat pasture go to seed while they are on the hill for the summer, so that little area can thicken up and build the soil a bit better. That way by the time you put them back in they have plenty of free food for the winter.
JudithB When I am riding with my son, I tell him about things my family and I did when I was a child. Raised in the Air Force in different states and Japan. What he thinks about family history, I dont know, but he is a grandfather now. Perhaps I should write down things instead, just one a day maybe?? He does notice when I forget something in our shared past, dates and things. I dont exercise either and at 73, parts hurt. I work on those parts. I do push mow 4 acres fairly regularly, but the heat and drought has stopped that for awhile! We have a very fat possum around right now, and something ate eggs last night, so guess we need to go hunting tonight!! Before he eats chickens, tears into the quail cage, and eats all the dog and cat food. Be careful with your foot or it may cause a lot of pain the rest of your life.
Love your videos. Your family is adorable Your lifestyle is awesome I don't appreciate the way you throw tools on the ground. Milwaukee tools don't last long enough when you treat them nicely. Treat tools like a lady, they'll treat you well in return
You know he said they would decide on what stain to put on the siding, well I think it’s beautiful being natural! Put poly on it to seal it and that’s all it needs.
You never know how good you have it till someone tells you your lucky but never grew up in a depression but did a recession and a fuel shortage and double digit interest rates and no jobs but got thru it and when times got better you appreciated it more and wondered how you survived it could have been luck or maybe instinct but it made you a little more at tune with how the world is functioning or aware the siding is looking good Heath as far as ideas go your right because things that have been tried and failed and the ideas that hold promise have been left in the back of someone's mind and may never be tapped because things were easier be careful and stay safe my friends God love ❤ ya both
Uß mint. Yup raccoons hate mint. Oil or spray. Just plant some and mostly on paths and trails . It will also keep mice away. Spray under your car hood and it keep rodents away from your wiring.
It's a shame you had to delete the raccoon . I don't think a lot of folks realize they're not always so cute. That they can in fact, cause chaos on a farm.
Take care of your tools and they'll take care of you. Good job on the siding. You must be making a lot of money to just be throwing your Milwaukee tool down on the battery like that, good for you. First time ever that I've seen someone doing that, I'd fire anyone I saw doing that to my tools right on the spot.
I lost my entire flock of hens to raccoons. Setup a trail camera and 3-4 raccoons were coming at a time each night. I’ve killed so many I can’t keep track anymore.
Heath why do you not have screen doors?? It would be awesome to have them so you could let fresh air flow through the home without bugs!! Great info vlog!
Hopefully, Rocky the Raccoon was an only child...lol Raccoons and opposum are devastating to chicken populations, and most of the time it's not for food, but to just kill. I'm glad you were able to dispatch him before more damage was done. The siding looks great, now to stain it. Still wondering about the solar array placement, but you'll video it some day. Love ya'll ❤️
@@ferretyluv Slow and stupid they're not. I've seen them go after kittens, chicks, and raccoons. I'm not sure which zoo you're visiting, but here in Florida, they can and do, attack and eat chickens.
Tough? Try dispatching one with a hockey stick! If that sounds like a Canadian thing to do, it was. The bugger was intent on getting into a cottage and met the business-end of the stick MANY times before departing earths bond. Vicious isn’t the word for garbage pandas…

Hey Heath and Cedar always great to watch y’all videos and Heath it a great idea about the water tank staying one step ahead just in case. Awesome info and video! Blessings 👏👏👏👍👍👍✅✅✅🤩🤩🤩💯💯💯🙌🙌🙌
Love the different camera angles in this one.
yea!!! Bandit Gets a Scooby Snack.. yea!!!! & Ruby Too...
ps and as Cristian Hunter commented I was lucky enough to find this channel in the beginning,
when you had a blow out on the trailer loaded with belongings.
have a great week.. Hope you and your's is well..
Just my opinion..... but I really like the corrugated tin better than the river rock idea. The tin gives your house the more “ rustic “ home look which I admire.
I have to agree with you on that one. Tastes do differ for a fact!
@@damogranheart5521 the horizontal siding with the tin was fine. Fake rock lol
YES. I'm go to the gym for health reasons. And I do my own yard work and home repairs. Not too bad for someone 77 years old.
In the South, we would call Bandit a coon hound. Way to go Bandit.
If you want a railtank, you should ask Heavy-D to lift it to the well.... Cheers from Hamburg, Germany.
Now I know, Heathkkkkiiioooiooo you do not have time
Cont’d 3 (oops neuropothy Fingers and I fell asleep typing but I’m almost finished with my thoughts)…
I was saying that I know Heath, That you were too busy to probably sit down and start writing about your father and grandfather‘s lives but I was checking into devices that can make this easier for both of us and I wanted to share it with you.
Great video, as always. Hope that foot heals up soon.
It's not always easy, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. My experience with Racoons is the same as Opossums, Where there is one there is usually more. Don't be surprised if you continue to have problems. But here's hoping I am wrong.
What kind of problems does the opossum cause? I've dealt with many, and they've never been doing anything worth killing them over.
Hello just plug into you content going through TH-cam and I really like it so I’m going to look forward to seeing more episodes hope your feeling better.
Congratulations on the siding
Which Walker Mower is it?
You know raccoons don't have a lot of natural enemies so it isn't bad to keep them thinned out they multiply very quickly consider what you did a counterbalance once they find your chickens they'll come back again and again and again till they're all gone and you are exactly right on the difference in the generations
You do what you have to do, when you live out of town. (Black bear) I have had a handful of times I had to take care of animals around my property and you definitely did the right thing.
Yeah they will wipe your chickens out
I recommend getting a heavy duty pressure washer to take down the layer of stain you put on. If you stain over it it will all end up a different color unless you are going very dark with the stain.
Amazing work on the house. Looks great!!
You should be letting that grass in the goat pasture go to seed while they are on the hill for the summer, so that little area can thicken up and build the soil a bit better. That way by the time you put them back in they have plenty of free food for the winter.
Glad your ok , siding looks awesome 👍
Cedar is the best as relates to bugs etc. Stain or paint takes so well to it as well.
How are you going to deal with all the sawdust in the gravel around the house? As always, I am impressed by your resourcefulness and work ethic,
Love your videos.
Your family is adorable
Your lifestyle is awesome
I don't appreciate the way you throw tools on the ground. Milwaukee tools don't last long enough when you treat them nicely.
Treat tools like a lady, they'll treat you well in return
You know he said they would decide on what stain to put on the siding, well I think it’s beautiful being natural! Put poly on it to seal it and that’s all it needs.
You should look into Steiner or ventrac mowers for your hillsides ! They work great
Bandit did his job and now he can return to his primary role - to be Cedar's lap dog. 😁
You never know how good you have it till someone tells you your lucky but never grew up in a depression but did a recession and a fuel shortage and double digit interest rates and no jobs but got thru it and when times got better you appreciated it more and wondered how you survived it could have been luck or maybe instinct but it made you a little more at tune with how the world is functioning or aware the siding is looking good Heath as far as ideas go your right because things that have been tried and failed and the ideas that hold promise have been left in the back of someone's mind and may never be tapped because things were easier be careful and stay safe my friends God love ❤ ya both
When do you finish the side of the barn with siding?
Uß mint. Yup raccoons hate mint. Oil or spray. Just plant some and mostly on paths and trails . It will also keep mice away. Spray under your car hood and it keep rodents away from your wiring.
Bandit is a good boy.
I never watch the adds.
BUT HEY . I have been researching to buy one of those power boxes.
To use in my remote farm shed.
They are awesome
It's a shame you had to delete the raccoon . I don't think a lot of folks realize they're not always so cute. That they can in fact, cause chaos on a farm.
They are cute but as long as they stay in the forest. :)
Hello and thumbs UP!
It looks really, really nice!!!! Wery well done
Did I miss why the siding is now covering the soffit vents?
I do not think so, maybe he will cut the holes when the siding is done? 🤔
@@dennis2376 he won't. Venting is overrated and why bother with it.
Take care of your tools and they'll take care of you. Good job on the siding. You must be making a lot of money to just be throwing your Milwaukee tool down on the battery like that, good for you. First time ever that I've seen someone doing that, I'd fire anyone I saw doing that to my tools right on the spot.
Have you considered a solid bodied stain or even a semi-transparent type to make the appearance more uniform and cover all the differences?
*Red Poppy Ranch off Grid living appreciate your commentary Listening 🌟 from Mass USA TYVM 💙*
Hey Cheryl! From western Massachusetts USA :-)
I lost my entire flock of hens to raccoons. Setup a trail camera and 3-4 raccoons were coming at a time each night. I’ve killed so many I can’t keep track anymore.
How are the goats making out clearing their pasture up the hill?
Racoon in peace. Glad you got it. Hopefully the chickens are safer now.
Hello from the Netherlands and thanks for the video RPR .
Sincerely Hollandduck
What is the name of the violin music being played around 10:20 in this vid?
Man I hate that stucco stone. Evertime I see it somewhere I think to my self " self- I really hate that stucco stone ".
Should be amusing watching Heath destroy that tin to apply that homey lick and stick fake stone.
Heath why do you not have screen doors?? It would be awesome to have them so you could let fresh air flow through the home without bugs!! Great info vlog!
Good Dog
Yep!
Watching from the uk 🇬🇧 👍👍👍👍
Hope it was cooler over the pond today. :)
Hope you're doing good there. My kin are from there and I've been sad to see that there are fires. Blessings on you.🦋🐈⬛🖖🕊
In North Alabama we call racoons trash pandas. We actually have a minor League baseball that goes by that name . They are cute but destructive .
great story and your mention are upmost correct :)
good job fantastic stories, thank you!
Nice progress.
Did you cover the vent holes?
Yes. Up next we get to see solar panels on the low roof to block the windows.
Possums eating chickens? No way. They eat bugs.
@@ferretyluv Yes, they eat meat, and deer do too, there's a TH-cam video of it.
@@russellwatters5891 Bugs are meat. But hunting? They’re very slow and stupid.
👍
Well Done Ye!! From Minnesota!!
Use a pitch fork in Canada we do . Then make dog food .
Heath a cordless drill is not a hammer lol if i drop one like you do it would explode into pieces
you even had a hammer at your feet you make me want to cry
love these videos keep them coming
when are you doing the plough truck or are you waiting for first snow?
Tough guys can fix their tools they treat their tools on tough guy alert.
Way to go bandit.
That all looks very nice 👍
@UC8p92EyLyXK9w17jOLEwNjQ hello everyone at Red poppy, hope you are all well 🤔 it’s kind of you to offer me a free gift 💝 but I am in New Zealand 🇳🇿 please take satisfaction in knowing that watching your videos is a gift to me 😃 kind thoughts always from Paul stokes 🙏
Please put a roll bar on it my dude! You could even put a little tin shade roof too!
