Sad Rustic Abandoned Pack Full Saddler Farm House In West Virginia Built in 1820

- This beautiful old rustic farm house was built in the early 1800’s between 1820-1825 in West Virginia, when the state was still just part of Virginia. It features a beautiful stone barn/ stables on the ground level for the farm animals. From what I was told the farm was originally a dairy farm and had many cows once grazing the lands around it. The first floor of the barn was used to stable the horses and mules. Over the years the house turned into a rental property and the final renters moved out in the mid 1980’s to 1990’s, strangely leaving almost everything behind. Loved the original hand carved fireplace mantle on the first floor, as well as the two small unique staircases. I’d love to see under some parts of the walls, I had a hunch the house may even be a log frame home in some of the original parts. Thanks for watching. Like and leave a comment below if you enjoyed! LOL -- My heart just about jumped out of my chest over that . . . spider, I guess. For a split second I thought you had tripped at the top of the stairs. Yikes! I always worry about that with these videos. I think the kitchen had the most potential for me. I always see those as being the heart of these old farm houses. Even in my growing up ('60's to 70's) our family life revolved around the kitchen.

I lived in another part of West Virginia. At the end of our road the was an abandoned house, and it was still full of stuff, including some very nice things that I would love to have taken home with me. Well, I wasn’t going to do that, but it’s a crying shame that someone didn’t take the stuff out and at least donate it somewhere.
To me, leaving good, usable things to rot, when there are many poor people who could use them, is criminal.
I would wager a guess the homeowner passed away without any relatives to care for the house.
the stoic beauty and toughness of that stone! conjures up images of hardworking craftsmen, who were extremely skilled at their craft! It's too sad how much of that knowledge and ability has been lost to today's minds. Programming computers isn't knowledge that can create an abode to shelter family and animals in that will last 200 years. What I'd do for a barn like that! And I caught a glimpse of a breed magazine, maybe thoroughbred or standardbred? they were folks who were thirsty for knowledge,, that lived there at one time. Thanks for the tour, Kappy. Wow, lot of stuff left behind in this one. I liked the real wood paneling in the kitchen, so much nicer than what was sold in the 1970s. The rooms upstairs were clearly painted by younger teenagers. I applaud the adults for letting them decorate thier own spaces. For me, the barn was the star of this video, it was built to last for many years and, has lived up to that intention. Thanks, Kappy. Those “STP” stickers on that dresser upstairs are from the 1970’s, many kids in my school had them - it was a motor oil
Yes. And then the rock band STONE TEMPLE PILOTS appropriated the " brand" in the 90's. The two are often mixed up. I have a hat with the STP logo, I thought it was promoting the band until someone told me it was a racing motor oil from back " in the day", lol.

My Mom was a hoarder and when we finally discovered it, her house looked like that. She wasn't able to look after herself and lived in that house for years in that condition.

6:33 my grandfather had a bell like that only a deeper sound. He used it as a doorbell on the front of his house. When he died I ended up with it.
I loved that kitchen and the art on canvasses downstairs. I’d guess a mom and son living there - she let him use stairwell and his room as a canvass for his work. The graffiti in the other upstairs rooms lacked the vitality and vision seen in the first upstairs room - dang ransackers! Hoarding perhaps but also vandalized - why do folks do that? So much hate!
Also loved the cow on the kitchen mantle, book cases with glass fronts, and the outside basement door was interesting. Barn was great! Thanks Kappy !
I love that barns are always so sturdy and as beautiful inside as they ever were --even with a bunch of junk laying around the place. Somebody should bring that one to me.

7:47 that panelling is in my house. My landlords father put it in the 50s.

Why does it always have to be a "hoarding issue"? The home owners haven't lived there for over 20 years......the doors and windows are wide open.....I'm sure there have been many other people through that house trashing it and disrespecting it...
My thoughts on this house is that the house was probably hoarded full and then the vandals found it. The barn was definitely built in early 1900's. Those type beams were used around that time. I helped rehab an old theater one time, that had the huge beams like that for the balcony. It had started to bow badly. It took 8 of us to hold the durn thing up while 2 people fit it in place. We replaced the full 1 piece beam with one like the layered one. HEAVY! Another great video Mr Kappy! Thanks for taking me along!

With houses like these get the roof repaired and start the remodel with one small section to make a kitchen, bath with laundry and a bedroom. Whatever you spend on that is the same no matter what living arrangements a person may have. As the years go by, remodel an area of the rest of the house at a time. The barn is ready for livestock at move in. This is doable.

The last residents of this place didn't respect it at all and seemed to be hoarders. Sad, it wasn't anything fancy but it was a good, strong house. What they did upstairs with the paint is atrocious. If it was a child then their parents were teaching them to be vandals in my opinion. Children should be taught to value these old places and not to deface them.
I don't believe that they were hoarders - someone ransacked the place! That's what my home would look like with that amount of stuff it someone tossed it and I'm not a hoarder.
But it's bad in the basement, too. I don't think people would ransack the basement. This looks like clutter and looks like it was there for a long time while the people were living there. Just my opinion.

I don't think she was teaching them to be vandals,she was obviously an artist and wanted the children to express their creativity,it's their rooms,I think it's a good idea to let them express themselves like that,I would let my children paint their rooms.

The hard work that went into building house's 100 years ago. Now a days they can build a house in a week that maybe wont last 20 years
Here are my thoughts.The resident passed away unexpectedly. He or she was not a hoarder. His/her belongings were thrown about when someone was searching for valuables.
I think the paint upstairs was either from a squatter or a teenager that made it a hang out. I don't believe the owners allowed their children to do the painting.
Despite the current condition of the home, I feel like the owners took pride in their home and everything was in order when they were alive. Being vacant for 25 years has made it a target for treasure seekers and vandals who caused the current disarray.

One of the more unusual houses you've gone through. I think they probably viewed the bedroom and stairwell walls as canvases for free expression. Wow, lots of books too, love the books. Thanks for the tour of this ancient dwelling.
As I was watching it came to my mind that this was most likely a rental property so much disregard for the property.. It was sad seeing such much junk all over the place. I really couldn't get a feel for how "she" once was a nice family home. Anna In Ohio

Such a fascinating yet sad place. I can imagine all the history here. The different families that have lived here throughout its history. It looks like the last family that lived had kids that grew up and left home leaving mom and dad to themselves. When they finally passed on the kids had no interest and it was left as us. There's so many treasures there. Some we can see and many are hidden. There are some really great books too. With the highway in the distance this great old place has just been passed by. Wow, another stunner that could be easily fixed and liveable once again. A few windows and doors, and the rest is cosmetic...drywall and paint. Otherwise it looks straight and true!

Thank you for sharing . Must of bean beautiful home at one time . I just see sadness now here . Since this place has been abandoned so long hard to say of the hoard was there when the residence where there or if the hoard may of happened from someone renting the place out as it seem’s pretty disjointed from downstairs to upstairs . Downstairs bible stuff and upstairs the opposite of very conservative . Would be nice if you could get the back story on this place . Would be nice out on that porch either early morning having coffee or in the evening sipping sweet tea watching the sun set .

Wow this is like 30 miles from me boy would I love see this thing in person this is just what I want in a house I love that old slat painaling..needs a lot a TLC but and..that organ looks like either a Kimball or a real small Hammond can't see the name lots of junk in there..boy what a shame what people do to old wood painting it like that that's just simply a shame it's just so peaceful being up in the woods..

Definitely a lot of memories in that house. Amazing the amount of history that went on here. Imagine this paradise at night. Man the possibilities. Usually properties like this are stuck through probate or family inheritance issues. Precisely why it's important and wise to get a Trust and put your assets into that Trust and things like this may not happen especially if you don't want it to. This property near me is worth a fortune ✌🏽🇺🇲

Also! A friend of mine encouraged everybody to graffiti, paint, draw and write on the walls of his attic penthouse. If his parents knew about it, they didn't say. I drew and painted a little Pegasus flying up the stairwell.

All the stuff left ,those steps are narrow leading to basement,yeah someone messed up the stuff throwing everywhere,loved the bell,the room upstairs painted , probably the artist of the paintings maybe,good place to see ,hard to explore those houses with so much stuff spread everywhere,good to see anyways,love the barn,I lived 14 years a long barn redone into house ,had a log beam across ceiling under upstairs ,that was thicker than that one ,the people passed away and after I left they tore it down,I think because land was locked up ,the driveway I used down the hill whee started was on someone else's land long as I lived there they let it stay but after I left they stopped people from using it

We are enjoying lovely spring weather here in East Tennessee. I spent almost all day outside, working to put tree boxes around all my young trees to hold the mulch that now protects them and holds water to nourish their roots. We had to remove problem trees, but I am planting more every year!
It's really difficult to see past all the detritus in this house to get a glimpse of the bones of this house, the architecture or anything else!
These people clearly did not know how to properly care for this old house! The amount of paint they splashed on the helpless walls is simply appalling! Artist or not, these people were tenants and not the owners of the house! I can only imagine the owner's dismay and horror when they inspected the home post tenants!
I do agree that someone appears to have been searching for something specific and they trashed an already cluttered house! It would cost many thousands of dollars just to empty this house!
It's been a long time since we've seen a house as bad as this one and I hope it's twice as long before we see another one!
I appreciate the explore, Kappy, but this one is so chaotic, it's actually distracting!
Finally, something I see that is good, the big white basket in the barn would be great for me to keep yarn in. See, that's why I shouldn't be an explorer! I'd want to salvage stuff from the houses! I know, I can't do that, but it would sure be tempting!

A pretty house actually, with very good bones to be there for 200 years and still standing proud as the day it was built. Wonder why they left all that stuff behind though. Have a great day and safe travels
Probably on older gentleman lived here, possibly a painter. He might've passed on without any relatives so the house was abandoned, and squatters were probably in and out over the decade, as it seems to have been abandoned in the late 90s, early 2000s.
Looks like the final tenants left in an awful hurry.
If I had the means, I'd fix this house up. If the flooring can hold all that junk..you know it's sound and built to last

Hey happy ,,you always seem to find such interesting places but always be careful exploring them as you never know what you will find ,,I kind of close my eyes a bit when you get to a creepy old cellar as you never know what might be down there ,, they actually give me the "Willie's " my great aunt had inherited her family's 200 year old plantation style house and it was beautiful but I never went down in the cellar ,,well happy exploring kappy
The basement was the least cluttered, hoarded, room in the house. The doorways were so narrow in the older houses. I guess we have gotten wider over the last 200 years. Imagine that! Many, many stories this house has to tell. Did any of the paintings have name or dates? Lots of college texts and educational books. That set of Brittanica encylopedia was prob $2k new. So many personalities in such an old house. Thsnks for sharing! ❤
