This swarajathi is such a gem of Shyama Shastri. It grows on you the more you listen to it. Amazing rendition! His expressions bring out the bhava and meaning of lyrics so well! You can feel the pleading in his singing.
There is nothing of Bhairavi not contained in this Swarajith. Shri Rama Varma's rendering of this exquisite piece is superb. Majestic, slow like the swarams are eddyying round in honey. Sir please sing your ancestor Swathi Thirunal's Ulsava Prabandham krithis in THIS STYLE. There is an acronym in new gen speak called FOMO ( Fear of Missing Out ). Sadly because of this trait MANY musicians sing/ play as if they just want the song sung and done with. There is NO slow dance with the swarams, saahithyam. No longer is it lovemaking. It is transactional. May Shri Maha Kali bless you with harmony inside AND outside. May Shri Maha Kali bless us all share it. 🙏🙏🙏.
I remembered our music teacher Sir while singing low pitch notes, he used to tell,the sound should come from the neval and taught sa pa sa for two days a real teacher he was.! So divine

Aesthetic and very divine! The accurate splitting of words to bring out the meaning and stressing on the words as needed is what makes it so different and special ! One of my favorite Swarajathis which I'm used to listening almost everyday. Love it even more now 🙂🙏
I have discussed this a lot with Varma ji. When I met him first during the mid 1990s, he used to sing almost exclusively rare songs. He felt that he would be serving music more by bringing to light, lesser known pieces by various composers. But I have always felt that the so called normal pieces also shine like gold, when they are soaked in Varma ji's special touch, attention to detail, total commitment and refined sense of aesthetics.
