Assigning a Static IP Address to Your Wireless HP Printer - Windows 7 | HP Printers | HP

  • Sometimes, your computer loses communication with your wireless HP printer. Assigning a static IP address for your printer might help with this problem.
    This video shows you how to assign a static IP address to an HP printer running on Windows 7, using an Internet browser. This assigned IP address will not change over time, and your computer might have an easier time recognizing the printer after long periods of printer inactivity.
    Some printers will have slightly different steps.

    Thank you. Finally some easy to follow instructions. I did have to reinstall the printer to get it to switch to the new static IP but other than that your instructions were great.

    Thanks, I have had an issue for a few years with various printers (some Dell as well as HP !!!). This simple explanation resolved my issue across all my PCs. Thank you so much. All printers now work.

      +KH Tan That's great. Personally, whenever I set up a new printer, I always assign it a static IP address. It seems to help reduce the number of wireless communication issues.

    Thank YOU! Some of us need step by step that show actual screens, instead of vague instructions to places we don't know where to find, and don't look anything like what is being described. While I think this issue is a HP bug, at least I can stop fighting with my printer now.

    I think you should also reserve that Ip in your router or network. That way other system admin will know that IP is reserved for that device

      Please try doing a firmware update with the USB cable connected instead of checking/doing the update from the front panel. The link for driver download page for the Photosmart 7520 printer is at the end of my post, please copy and paste it in its entirety. Once you are on the driver download page, please choose your operating system from the download and click the ‘Next’ button. Please click on the + beside ‘Firmware’. Now please click on ‘More Details’ and it will load a new page. Please click on the ‘How to install’ and follow the steps for connecting the USB cable and doing the update. Once you have completed the firmware update, please turn the printer off for approximately 30 seconds then turn the printer back on. You should now be able to connect to the printer’s embedded web server.

    Hi, I have been having trouble with connecting my mac laptop wirelessly to my printer. It is a HP Officejet Pro 8610 and I find that sometimes my computer can pick it up but then it only lasts for one print and then it seldom picks it up again, so I am forced to connect the USB cable from the desktop. I have tried many things which have become very repetitive, however none of it seems to work as my laptop just doesn't seem to pick it up even though they are both on the same wifi connection. Is there a way I can get around this? Thanks

      I am presuming that you have already tried to set a static IP address for the printer. Please search for C04082680 on HP’s home page or using Google search. The title of the document is “Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection”. It has the trouble shooting steps you are looking for.

    If I set up static IP address on HP Color LaserJet MFP M277dw it can't connect to internet anymore. It also does not remember its Hostname and DNS settings if I try setting them manually in Network Identification.

    •  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, I've managed to set up Host name and DNS. But printer still can't access the internet. I am unable to set up web services.

      HP Printer Support I have to be able to get into the embedded web browser, and with out an I.P., I am unable to. The I.P. that comes up on the configuration paper is 0.0.0.0. What I need in order to access the EWB is a default I.P. that starts with 192.

      +Jim W Go to the Home Screen --> Setup, then touch Reports and then select Network Configuration to see all of the printer's network details. There you will find the IP address.

    My printers IP address is 10.0.0.4 and my browser (Chrome) delivers an error message instead of taking me to the embedded web server. I have never been able to setup wireless printing on my Photosmart 5520 printer. In addition I cannot use the this solution.....I need a troubleshooting guide for the troubleshooting guide.

    • @HPSupport
      @HPSupport  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi kengoetz,
      Please search for C03353113 on HP’s home page or using Google search. It is the User Guide for the Photosmart 5520 printer. On page 32 in the section titled “To connect the product with the Wireless Setup Wizard” it will walk you through connecting the printer to your wireless network. Once the printer is connected it will prompt you to print a network configuration page. On the page it will give you the IP address of the printer and what network the printer is connected to. That should give you access to the embedded web server of the printer.
      I have also sent you an email with a link to the HP Support Forums. The link will take you to a post that has the steps, with screen shots, on how to set the static IP address. Don’t worry that the screen shots in the post are for a Photosmart 7510 printer, the steps and screens are the same for your printer.

      The printer and the device with the browser both need to be connected to the same wireless network to be able to reach the embedded web server of the printer. Also if your router has been modifying the printer’s IP address I would check to ensure that the configuration report was printed recently to ensure you have the most up to date IP address for the printer.

      Hi Erica. Please restore the network defaults from the front panel of the printer (Highlight "settings" on the front panel and press "OK", Highlight "Wireless" and press "OK", Highlight "Restore Defaults" and press "OK"). Once you have restored the network defaults please 192.168.223.1 into the address bar on the browser of your choice. That should take you to the printer's embedded web server so you can set a manual ip address.

    Question please.....your video solved my issue. Thanks. Question, if I reboot, will my system keep the static IP or will I have to do this again? Google keeps forgetting me. mricha610@comcast.net if we lose touch here. Again, thanks.

    • @HPSupport
      @HPSupport  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MichaelCZUSA Yes the static IP should be held if you reboot your computer. The information regarding the static IP is actually stored in your router/modem.
