Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Such a huge fan of Kevin’s that I wanted to make sure I hit all the beats, and I’m glad that came across to you! Cheers!
I worked at Spooky Island two summers in a row in my 20s, it was a really amazing experience. Being there was as crazy for the staff as it was for the guests, there was never a boring day. I still remember the thrill of getting off the Barge of the Damned and seeing the island for the first time. Those were the best years
Not only did you NAIL the Defunctland style, like you could EASILY do something like this with other obscure theme park attractions if you wished. BUT, I completely forgot that Spooky Island was the setting for the first Scooby Doo movie so the realization at like 3 minutes in hit me like a truck.
Some say you can hear Mr. Mondovarious yelling at his PlayStation from two blocks away saying “ Curse you Oswald Eugene Counter!”. His neighbor says it’s from playing Planet Coaster. Lol
This is absolutely brilliant! Going through the "history" of Spooky Island and how it was all a publicity stunt to get more people to the island was just fantastic! Always wished Spooky Island were real, and this video, oddly enough, makes it feel just a little more real. Hopefully one day... complete with sinister cults, of course!
Thank you so much! Growing up, I always wanted Spooky Island to be real. Probably coincided with my love for the spooky… and theme parks. This video I in a way made for myself to convince myself it’s real, I’m glad we can all now live in the delusion together!! Yes. Maybe one day… plenty of cults! Thanks again for your kind comments! :)
@@BiemanTV Yes!! Perfect! Glad to see I ain't the only one! As a kid I always had a threshold of "creepy" vs "horror", creepy being scary but just on the threshold of not being safe, horror being outright dangerous. Spooky Island always sat comfortably at that threshold, though the summer beaches and adventure always made kid me feel particularly at home and yearning for the spooks. 10/10 video!
Same with me. Thought it was kind of legit at first till I was looking at some things thinking "Wait, this guy looks like Rowan Atkinson, this park looks kind of fake, and the Damon Ritus was from the Scooby Doo live action movie" Then when they brought up Scooby Doo, I was like "Ah, this is supposed to be the movie" which was pretty clever. XD
Really good! I dont watch Defunctland but I liked the style and narration of this video, using other media to expand on the story, and how you played it serious. Too bad you cant do something like this with the second film but maybe one day we could collab on a 'History of the Potion Scene' video lol
Always game to bounce around ideas, especially when it comes to that fridge scene, which you know all about Buff Shaggy! Thanks for the kind comments!! :)
I gotta say man, you kind of had me fooled for a moment thinking this was kind of legit. Then I was looking at some things thinking "Wait, this guy looks like Rowan Atkinson, this park looks kind of fake, and the Damon Ritus was from the Scooby Doo live action movie" Then when they brought up Scooby Doo, I was like "Ah, this is supposed to be the movie" which was pretty clever. It had been quite a long time since I've seen the movie, so that's why I was a bit fooled from the start. Should've known better when I say it said "Defunctland PARODY" XD
Hahahaha I’m glad you enjoyed my own Spooky Island ride ;) The goal was to just be completely serious as long as I could before things get really whacky. Glad you enjoyed it!
this was so well crafted that i was utterly fooled into thinking this was somehow a real amusement park all the way until you said mystery inc....... good on you sir. i feel like an idiot and enjoyed every second of it!
Cool video, I really like the setting of Spooky Island in that Scooby-Doo movie and I'm a big fan of Rowan Atkinson who played Emile Mondovarious. I love how you used those pictures of Rowan for Emile Mondovarious.
Do you think all demon and ritual evil stuff happened like a really long time ago in ancient times or it's just made-up? Just me know, besides good luck with future videos you will be doing.
Thanks Elies! I appreciate your comment & well wishes. 😁 From my research, they were made up for the movie, but I wouldn’t be surprised if James Gunn, the writer, based it off of real tribal myths and fokelore. Not real, but awesome creatures!
@@BiemanTV You totally achieved it! I was delighted at the mid-twist, and it was likely a surprise to me because I hadn't seen then source movie, so the Rowan Atkinson appearances didn't clue me in too early. :D
It was tough to decide the distinction. Def did it with love of Defunctland more than anything which would make it a homage… but Spooky Island isn’t real and most of my facts are BS 😂😂
defunctland is a youtube channel that covers generally amusement parks or rides from amusement parks that have since shut down and their history. 10/10 channel i would highly recommend if you enjoyed this
This was absolutely incredible. You nailed Kevin’s dry humor, his plot twists, and the Defunctland editing spectacularly. 10/10, would Spooky again.

The scariest part was the regular performances by Sugar Ray. The place was truly evil.
Some say, that the famous Sugar Ray incident happened on Spooky Island Property 😱
#scrappydidnothingwrong
But I've seen Sugar Ray, does this mean I'm haunted?
Rumor says Sugar Ray is still there waiting for their next catch of victi-concert attendees

The Oswald Eugene counter just won’t let him build a 1:1 spooky island 👊😔
Wow I never thought about it like a publicity stunt, here I thought the 2003 closure was related to their shrunken head scandal!
Haha, that was definitely a contributing factor! If it ever reopens… I don’t think that’s coming back!

I kept wondering what Mr. bean was doing in the video, and then 4 minutes in I finally realized.
It took me embarassingly long to figure out what I was watching. 4 full minutes of this before I was like "hey wait a minute"
It took me 6 mins to figure this one out!🤣🤣🤣
You guys weren't tipped off by the inclusive of Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean)?

I love this. I was too young to get to go when it was open.
I wish I can turn back time and can go 😩
Wow! As someone who is a fan of horror, you did a great job bringing this fictions mystery park to life! If only it were a place I could visit.
Thanks! Growing up, I always wished it was real. It was time to at least pretend! :D appreciate the support! Stay spooky 👻

Scooby dooby doooo where are you? ❤
The timeline of this is insane, Mr. Mondovarious be?

you.
I wish this was real. Australia seems to lack this kind of theme parks.
7:13 I don't wanna be THAT person, but Scrappy was Scooby's NEPHEW, not his cousin.
Hahaha you got me! This is what happens when I get so excited about a video idea and forget to check the little things! 😂😂
the 2000s were wild
What mythology are the ancient monsters are from? The ones in the live action scooby doo movie.
An excellent satire, I was laughing all the way.

"Parody in the title"
This could still be real.
"Mr. Bean."
Could just be a dopple ganger.
"Aboriginies having written text"
ok then

Unironically better than the actual movie
How does this have under 150 likes? You nailed every aspect of this.

@BloodDripss I think OP was asking why Defunctland’s u was crossed out in the thumbnail of this video. To be honest, I don’t understand it either.
