  • How to crochet a tank top step by step. This DIY crochet top is cropped and ties in the back for an adjustable, flawless fit. Hope you guys enjoy this crochet tutorial 🦋 Buy the written pattern with sizes S, M, L, XL here → bit.ly/SunValleyTop

    WHAT I USED:
    - mercerized cotton yarn (size: dk) - about 390 m for size small
    - 3.75 mm hook
    - yarn needle
    - scissors
    - measuring tape
    CROCHET STITCHES USED:
    - single crochet
    - double crochet
    - chain
    - slip stitch
    HOW TO WASH:
    I recommend hand washing the crochet top with cold water and mild soap, ring it out gently & lay flat on towel to dry. If your using cotton yarn, heat can shrink your top so be careful!

    This was such a lovely tutorial! I made an XS size top, so if you are also looking to make one, here are the adjustments I made: 1) crochet 5 rows of the round bust area, 2) only add width to the armpit once, 3) crochet 9 rows after the added width row to make the overall width smaller, 4) chain 32 in the beginning to make it more cropped. I also personally found it cleaner to chain 2 and turn. Hope this helps!

      Hi! If you don't mind me asking, what bust/bra size does your customized XS pattern fit? I'd like to know, since the original pattern (size S) is too big for me.

    Amazingly simple and so pretty! I made it, and to help fit it (I.e. avoid bagginess anywhere), I made the 2 front panels first out of 2 skeins of yarn,then joined them then worked on the side panels simultaneously so I could fit it well around my body. Worked really for me, and especially if you're using a different yarn weight or so. I used a dk weighted cotton but somehow was a lot thinner than the one in video, so had to do quite a few more rows everywhere. Maybe this helps someone:)

    Almost finished making this in a petrol blue, and I've also just finished making the bikini which fits perfectly (I made the bottoms a little bigger) and also the oversized jumper in a mustard yellow. I learnt to crochet years ago but this is the first time I'm actually finishing projects as I'm so excited to see how they turn out and actually wear them.
    I'm trying to be more eco friendly and not buy anything from fast fashion stores for ethical reasons and this gives me the chance to make things exactly as I want that I cant find at a charity shop so thank you so much for posting all these videos!

    I love this pattern. I have made 2 tops of different colors following the pattern. It's easy to follow and i love the fit with the increase on the bust side. It fits perfectly and ive never been so proud of my work until this project. I might make more and learn how to adjust to larger sizes since i only make tops that fit me. Im still struggling on how to adjust for bigger size but i guess i'll just have to learn it along the way. Very nice pattern and i love it so much 💖

    I made the size small and after spending hours getting it all done I tried it on and the added extra width caused such baginess under the armpits! I wear a size 34B so I definitely recommend if you're on the smaller chest side to not add the extra width otherwise you get under armpit wings with this top. Definitely would have been nice if the video had said that. Also if you're smaller chested definitely would recommend leaving out at least one double crochet row on each side of the back. Now I have to figure out how to fix this since we have to tie off so many times in this project.

    • @squejji
      @squejji 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm small chested and experienced the same thing. I'll try this pattern again but I'll remove 2 double crochet rows. Other than that, I love this pattern.

      Look up how to do the magic knot. It has helped me in so many things and has made adding a ball of yarn sooooo much easier! I'm in the middle of many projects and it has helped when I mess up even after tying off - especially since I'm a beginner and don't want to waste time making washcloths.

    • @Ayu20001
      @Ayu20001 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi! I know you made this comment months ago, but I just wanna ask: Did you leave out the extra width entirely? So do you just make straight double crochet rows? I'm also a size 34B so I just wanna know how it turns out and how you modified it

    I really enjoyed this pattern! However, the spoken pattern (video above) is slightly hard to understand due to slight differences in names of different stitches! I also have a longer torso, so I would like to mention that if you have a longer or shorter torso, you should change the original chain length of 42 st. to accomodate your body! Thank you so much for sharing this pattern! I am so excited to make mine a little longer and wear it! This is a perfect DIY! Also one more thing guys this took a VERY LONG TIME! I have been crocheting for years now and it still took me several hours! Make sure you set time aside every day so that you can finish! (this only took me 2 days but I crocheted non stop for roughly 4 hours one day and another 3.5 hours another!) happy crocheting!

    i am old now and i spend a great deal of my time crocheting for children. i learned how to crochet in 1967 when i was 10 years old. not only do i crochet for the salvation army at christmas, my bank adopted a family in 2019. a single mother with 3 girls and a boy. i made afghans for the children and a shawl for the mother. if that happens again this year there will be one or more young ladies that might not know you, but they will love you, because of this beautiful pattern i just purchased. any chance you could reduce it to children's sizes that are not dependent on a cup size?

One item I noticed on the written pattern is the hook size. On my copy it is listed as 3.75 mm / D3, which I couldn't get gage with until I looked up a crochet hook chart and used a 3.25. A typo maybe?

      @@AmandaLoveSantos multiples in the stitch, like if i want it to be a size small but i need the bust a little bigger. Is there a certain amount of stitches i need in order for the pattern to work up properly? (I'm fairy new to crochet).

    • @AmandaLoveSantos
      @AmandaLoveSantos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Okay gotcha, well the great thing about this top is that it’s adjustable in the back so if you have a bigger bust, you can tie it looser & it should fit. But if you really wanted to, you could add more rows to the cup (around minute 4:30 in the video) & that will allow fuller coverage for larger bust. Hopefully that helps, but let me know if you need more help :)

    I got a quick question about the starting row. Trying to make sure I am not off right in the beginning....should I be having 84 stitches at the end?

    I think i got the wrong type of yarn. It's kartopu organic mercerized cotton, 3 light dk. It seems kinda thin. Is this going to work?

      It will work, it'll only make the holes smaller and work look tighter

    Will this turn out the same if I use a slightly thicker yarn? I think it’s weight 4.

    • @AmandaLoveSantos
      @AmandaLoveSantos  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe it would come out slightly bigger, but make sure you use the same hook 3.75 mm. But the great thing about this design is that it’s adjustable so if it’s too loose, you can tie it tighter. If you need to, you can crochet less rows in the back to make it smaller also.

      Amanda Love Santos hi would I use the same method if I’m making a different size without a written pattern? I love all you work btw
