- Brian Cox explains how Christopher Columbus was involved in the beginnings of tobacco.
This is a channel from BBC Studios who help fund new BBC programmes. Service information and feedback: www.bbcstudios...
I think this more into roasting Colombus rather than explained tobacco itself
agree
That's what happens when activists take over and infest every single aspect of media. It doesn't matter what the topic is about, they will always make it about something else, like how bad Columbus was or how bad men are or how bad and evil everyone with white skin is.
I don't know why I expected it to be Brian Cox the physicist instead of Brian Cox the actor.
I thought it was going to be the former Line backer for the Dolphins
I wish I could watch the whole documentaries in full :(
sdasdaasd thanks

It is very fascinating how history and time would connect people,
Here it is, the King of ancient Greece telling the story about Spanish exploration.
I love tobacco, but I rarely smoke it. Plant it in your garden once, and you always will.
I want to grow some tobacco. Pipe smoker and find the plant fascinating
Moderate pipe smoking or sniff snuff is good for your health
Who doesn't love a nicotine hit

Heroin?

It's time to regulate tobacco like alcohol and marijuana.
I used to, but not anymore. Not it makes my skin crawl.

Columbus wasn’t “bad at navigation”, he was quite excellent at it. He didn’t know the whole picture or circumference of the globe, that’s all. We can’t say that he did a poor job, all things considered. It was one of many steps involved in growing the collective knowledge of humanity.
Totally agreed re the navigation. Pity about the mass murder and enslavements, though.
True he was actually a prideful ole Italian who thought he known more than all the people who said the earth was much wider than he thought. That and a Spanish Monarchy wanting to go from Reconquista to Conquista and you have America. We killed 80% of them they gave us syphilis and taccabo
Well how come the Greeks knew the circumference of the globe like 2000 years before Cristóbal?
@@MacJaxonManOfAction cough cough BULLSHIT

Ah, the BBC absolutely dripping with disdain for both tobacco and imperialism. Irony, anyone ?
Imperialism has been one of the primary curses on this planet for 5,000+ years. Universal disdain for it would be ideal.
Tobacco is a wonderful plant with many benefits why have we demonized it
@@Nine_9s bullshit it is a plant so I can just grow it cost nothing and I decide what I will do with it . sugar is addictive and damaging to health lets ban that
@@Nine_9strue
I think the world demonized it because the cigarette industries blended much of toxics in the tobacco to cause dependence. Pure Tobacco itself smoked in a pipe of consumed as snuff in moderation is good and it is not addictive.
Love the hamlet music in the background, might go for one now actually
Pure tobacco is fine to chew. Even Red Man chew only has about 10-18 chemicals vs over 3-4,000 from cigarettes. Tobacco is actually very interesting. Kind of a uniting plant for the whole globe good and bad.
***** Smoking pot is just as bad as smoking pure tobacco, they're both herbs. If you want the good stuff you'll have to get a torch cactus.
you know snuff is not available in england. only USA
Karthic D And Canada.
+Karthic D - That's ironic given its history in this documentary.
This Guy pipe tobacco and cigars are beautiful, sadly they get placed in the same category as cigarettes and vaping.
Right when it gets interesting it's finished!🤔
Just like history
Clarification, Columbus was the first European but not human to discover America.
Also man did not just pop up on lands like some miracle.
I thought some vikings were the first
He wasn't actually the first European. The Vikings discovered Newfoundland, Canada and even tried to settle there but didn't last long.
This video was a joy on so many levels
I'm still baffled by the notion that planting, smoking, and selling of this plant is perfectly legal while other plants are not. Chris must have kept the other plants for his personal use.
As far as I'm aware of some states that have yet to legalize it dont know how to Tax it. But my thing is they could tax it like they would tabacco products.
@@alexisstephenscna785Tax? Let me grow my own plants.
It's not about the plants. Politics of the day, it's not something you can win. 1960's 🤷🏻♂️
A famous tobacco company executive once said, "We don't smoke the crap, we just sell it."
Never heard of him or this so was he even famous lol
Watching while buzzing on snus, feels good.
Lyft freeze x strong and siberia for me. Amazing stuff
Put that shit away it will kill you
Just my peach ice vape 2%. Gave up smoking to run. Still have cigarillos.
I personally think we should focus more on and legalise cannabis in the UK. Regulate it similar to how tobacco is done. Make a market out of it. That way the British can earn more profit.
like in many EU countries :) in Czechia this is unending theme. There is no comlete legalization but one can smoke weed almost everyehere the sociaty is very liberall. Even more I do not undedrstand the legalization "problems" politics have. At least in medicine cannabiss is being used for 10 years now. As a nurse I really apreciate the cannabis/opioid analgetic therapy. (not only but mostly I see the canabis prescription in patients with chronic pain)

Tobacco addicts the most vulnerable. Which is why we need to make cigarettes as cheap as possible. A person shouldn't have to decide between eating and smoking.
You are a fuckin' communist...
Martin Matouch how is that being a communist? You know prices are so high cause of government taxation on it right?
Tobacco isnt addictive, the additives they put in are
@@igorpadurjan5714 Actually it is. They have to remove nicotine from the plant to make it safe for people to consume before they put it in cigarettes and cigars. Nicotine highs are nothing to mess around with if you are new. Smoking the straight tobacco leaf can cause you to hallucinate like peyote.
Your right. I myself like cigars and tobacco pipes because of their flavor. I have tried cigarettes. Their only purpose is to give you a nicotine fix. I do have to say though, I have never actually felt a craving for it. There are times where I get tired of it and I'll go several months without smoking one. I have to be in the mood for it. Kind of like food.
watching this makes me happy I never started using tobacco products. in the states they have so many products
They are all pretty awesome. Tobacco was America's first cash crop.
Awesome plant. Just don't smoke it as that's the worst way in my opinion. Snus is the best and has been used for over 200 years in Sweden and they have the lowest smoking rate in the world

I love my Marlboro Black Red 100s and an occasional black and mild cigarillo.
Yep, I enjoy a good cigar or more from time to time, hookah on rare occasions, black and milds when I want something "more flavorful" and most definitely an American spirit and Winston brand when I truly want to taste some fine "tobacca"
Also with a good ole cup of coffee accompanied it. Been enjoying things like this for years.
Who is the guy at the start

The origin of tobacco: the ground
Smoked tobacco products include cigarettes, cigars, bidis, and kreteks.
It's the hardest habit to quit. I've been using for 35 years. I've quit cocaine, opiates, alcohol, and cut my caffeine intake by more than half but tobacco has its claws dug deep. Please don't use it
I think it must be an individual thing. I've smoked daily on and off for 20 years (switched to vaping now), and never had any problems stopping. OTOH I had a nightmare coming off just prescription codeine.
@@antonydyatlov5651 kratom helps with opioids
@@ryanedwards4512 Thanks, I have had Kratom before, but I haven't used opiates for years. Hardly seems worth it as it's still addictive and illegal here now anyway.
@@antonydyatlov5651 Kratom isn't as addictive as nicotine or opioids. Kratom is as safe as a cup of coffee.
@@ryanedwards4512 Kratom works on the same receptors as opioids, so it is one in all but name, but just weak. That's why it helps some people come off. You could get the same effect by just taking less than whatever it is you're trying to get off, but we all know that's easier said than done.

Song name 2:29 Please?
Second movement in Johann Sebastian Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 in D major. Well, I was initially half right.
NGC6144 thank you!!!
It starts with one or two in the first few weeks. It extends to a pack then you realize it costs money and you are asking for one too often. Then after 5-6 years it becomes a habit you wake up to, go to sleep to, and cannot help but squeeze in between meals and even at work.
The habit costs like $75 a week and you only earn $150 working part time as a full time student.
The university dorm you live in prohibits it's use in certain areas and you break the rule. You learn your lesson and end up smoking it in a parking lot all alone.
In summary, don't start it if the virtue is not to use it.
The end.
Pray for your addiction to cease.
@@whitedragon9731 I am coming on 23 years without smoking next New Years. The habit has been interrupted and is no longer being supported. I am blessed. It was (and probably still is) the worst habit to pick up because it is like a stage 1 narcotic during withdrawals.
