I really like the trx4m out of the box and now looking forward to installing the gear set! I'm also really looking forward to what you'll do with them! Thanks!
I love a scale vehicle that is versatile. I love this vehicle. Thanks for the information and content. Definitely will add bearings. Looking forward to a season with the TRX4M.
Screw ball bearings, they rust and are not water friendly, I will stick to the stock bushing, because its such a low RPM vehicle, it will TAKE FORVER before those bearings wear out or rust. Keep the bushings!
I got the green defender and put some beadlocks and Baja pro X's on it and it goes pretty good I got the low gear transmission and motor combo that way I could just switch out great video by the way love them
I just put my white Max smasher body on my red power wagon chassis to make it a crawler instead of monster truck, I have the blue one for monster truck, but it seems to crawl better with the Ford body than the power wagon Body wow I’m impressed
Been contemplating getting the FJ to compliment my 4M Bronco, mainly because I can't find a second one for my son. LOL. The FJ is also 50 bucks cheaper right now, so it seems like a purchase is in my future along w/ some new tires. :) Thanks for the video!
Really like these TRX4Ms, but not a fan of the Traxxas electronics with their proprietary connectors. One of these with a one of the nice Furitek brushless setups would be sweet! Capable crawling and enough speed for some trial action.
I was thinking the exact same thing since the esc and rx have the same type connection the furitek esc has 🤞🏻maybe @2fmrc will try this when he’s bored with the stock setup?? 🤓
cant wait to see it built! curious on having to swap frame for the servo clearance with more flex, im honestly fed up with scx24 front lack of steering. so seeing this makes me excited! ive popped cvds and even gotten different axle housings just over it haha.
Awesome video Matt very informative definitely will be putting those gears in when I get one of these. I don't have one yet but what I do have is a question about the fcx24 . I just recently put the cayman xl links on the back and Gladiator Driveline that I had to cut a little bit to get it to work right but anyway it works just fine but under a load something's locking up like as I climb a hill it locks up so there's some kind of binding I can't figure out where it might be if it's in the axles or if it's in the transmission where do you think it might be ? I guess it could possibly be even in the portal boxes I'm not sure I didn't want to tear everything apart but I guess I'm going to have to right
I would try disconnecting the driveshafts and spin front and rear individually to see if you can feel binding in either. If those are both smooth you may have to tear into the transmission. It could also be the tires hitting the outer portal covers. I’ve had that happen with the max smasher especially. Maybe pull the wheels and tires when you check the axles to be sure!
Thanks! Why nobody consider changing the ESC to improve the slow speed control while keeping the wheel speed of the trail gears? Idk, Furitek, Modellbau-Regler, even the FCX24 ESC can be used
I hadn’t checked to be sure but isn’t the smp same bolt pattern? Also, after two days of putting them in water, the bushings in the axles bind enough to cause pretty noticeable torque twist. No problem for cruising around but it’s enough to screw you when trying to crawl.
Yeah the smp is the same. I haven’t tried mounting it yet but there may be some clearance issues with it because of its diameter. The bushings are definitely a pain. I have a brand new axle straight out of the pack that has binding lol
So I tryed to mount my trx4m bfg tires on a set of injora beadlocks. Thats a no go. The traxxas tires have a bead thats to think. The tires hook good n I wanna run em. So its a bummer gotta get the expensive trx rims or diy something
Yeah it does. It really just adjust the drag brake and driving mode like forward/reverse or forward/brake/reverse. It makes no difference in the slow crawl unfortunately.
Do the bearings make any real difference? I mean MAYBE the ones in the transmission make a noticeable difference? Gotta do an scx24 comparison line for line! Use a wheel that fits both so they can use the exact same wheels and tires? 😁
@@V8chump I mean it could be something else in the axle. I haven’t pulled it apart. Once I replace the bushings with bearings I’ll have to see if it has any issues.
@@2fmrc I just put in the speed gears. Didnt seem to take away from the crawl. But added alot of high end obv. The crawl gears dont do much in an electric car. they have enough torque where it dont matter
@@gregorholmes1837 the torque on my stock truck sucked! With the stock gears when it was in a tight spot it seemed like it had to struggle to pull over an obstacle and then it would just kinda jump over it quickly. With the crawl gears it’s much smoother. @@2fmrc Something about it makes it look like a kid's toy to me. I can't take it seriously as a hobby grade crawler. It is not a good size for outdoors. As a big fan of Traxxas, I'm not sold on these yet. I've never been a fan of actual scale RCs. A "trail vehicle" in such a small scale is kind of ridiculous. To me, a trail vehicle should be like walking a dog. Able to keep up with the walking pace while traversing trail obstacles. This can't. Hard bodies have no real point on RCs. They only hinder performance (ALL performance abilities). Just my 2 cents that doesn't matter. If it makes YOU happy then it's a good RC.
Yea trail trucks aren’t my thing, even though I do walk my trx4 like a dog to all my outdoor lines… but these guys are so small you can carry them on a hike, plop it down, and do some CRAZY lines. Just make an adapter and leave it plugged into the esc….itd be $2 in wire and connectors that’d work for all your normal batteries

What wheels (purple) are on the truck with the atlas body?
I think I've seen somewhere that the trx4m has normal, trail and crawl mode programmed into the esc.. can u confirm that?
