    As soon as I saw this notification I had to watch it!
    My favorite thriller! I don't remember how young I was when I first saw this movie, it scared me more than any horror movie that has come along. The rewinding of the seance tape, and hearing his voice... Joseph's face in the water... and then Joseph in the well STILL gives me the chills.
    Since you pointed it out, the music totally set the tone and is a huge factor in the suspense!
    Thank you so much for watching and reacting!!
    Take care, Alexa!

    Agreed. The avarice of the Senator's father was more horrifying than the entire supernatural element. The cinematography was outstanding. You can't forget the burning staircase or John's late daughter's bouncing ball down the stairs

    When I first saw this film I was in my teens and parts of it were truely frightening to me. Now in my 60's, I watched it again and found it incredibly sad. Interesting how a few years can change a person's perspective.

    Another movie set in my hometown of Seattle, but filmed in Vancouver B.C. Although some of the establishing shots were filmed in Seattle, such as the University of Washington, the interiors were filmed on a soundstage in Vancouver.

Every time i go back and revisit it (It’s still as effective as it was that 1st time i seen it) I’m so glad more people are discovering this “Must See” film 👍👍👍

    I missed this when you put it out. Thank you for doing this very stylish horror film. I saw this when it came out and fell instantly in love with it. George C Scott is a great actor. I always appreciate your pleasant and insightful commentary and reaction. Would love your reaction to the 1961 movie The Innocents with Deborah Kerr if you haven't seen it before.

    You were one step ahead of this movie all the way through the review! If you haven't seen it, I also suggest watching the woman in black, either the original 1989 TV movie or the 2012 remake with Daniel Radcliffe They're both excellent.
    Also if anyone can explain why I keep confusing. George c. Scott, in this movie with Alfred Finney in Wolfen it would be greatly appreciated.
    Alexa should also watch Wolfen 1981 if she hasn't seen it.

    It's an interesting story because the real criminal can't be punished, except by God. So the spirit can't rest until it has a reckoning with the boy who replaced him. But I think the Senator was partially in denial. He's both accomplice and victim. He may have memory of the orphanage and know deep down he's not the natural son, but I'm sure dad didn't tell him about the murder. Also, he was six years old when the plot was hatched, and was rescued from the orphanage and would certainly obey a rich and powerful man who rescued him from it. He owed "dad" a lot, and maybe eventually lied to himself about the situation.

    How come Friday the 13th Part 3 was made into a novelization twice by two different authors in the 80’s but not this classic ghost story? 75% of cinema is based on (if not inspired by) literature and yet this classic (with writing as good as M. R. James) was not made into one. If The Omen, The Fog, Poltergeist, and even Gremlins can have literary counterparts why not this film?

    I have to say George C Scott's acting is excellent in this movie. Another actor could have hammed the role up and turned this into just cheese fest.

    • @chrisjackson5210
      @chrisjackson5210 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think George C. Scott KNEW how to give a bad performance, although I think in later years some of the material he had to work with was often beneath his talents.. I really like this wintery-feeling film, the first time certain physical effects (like the wheelchair) are featured are very effective but they lose their impact a bit from over-use as it goes on. A solid ghost film with good actors who take the whole thing seriously.
